2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, I saw that this problem was resolved earlier in the thread... but I still can't get to the page to confirm after I was accepted.

I used the link they gave me... but nothing. Any ideas? (I sent an e-mail yesterday but I've not heard back yet)

Does anybody have any idea why cms gets so many applicants? Last year they had like the third highest number of applications. Is this because it's a great location and people love the school? Or is it because people view it as a safety school? Any thoughts?

Just a guess but: relatively low stats, good location, private school (i.e. no IS bias)

Hit the nail on the head. Paradoxically, the fact that the stats for admission are reasonable make this school the opposite of a safety school because it gets so many applicants.

Just got Alternate list email. Interviewed 11/21. Feeling devastated. This is my top school. Anyone know if there's any waitlist mobility or is it just a slow rejection?

I interviewed 12/1 and very anxiously awaiting an email.

Just got accepted but turned down the offer so for anyone feeling down, dont worry so much the waitlist WILL move. They told us on the interview day that almost half the class comes from the waitlist

I got waitlisted at first and then was accepted ~4 weeks later after no action on my part

I know people have probably already asked this (sorry), but is there anything we need to do besides the deposit and technical standards form? So excited!

Just received an Interview Invite! Out of State Applicants, LizzM ~72, complete late August. So excited to visit here!!

For those who had already interviewed, could I have some feedback? How's the interview? Is it MMI? How are the people? Facilities? Curriculum? Living environment? Research opportunities? etc.?

I interviewed at Loyola couple weeks ago and I want to compare these two schools. Any feedback or info will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I'll try to answer a few of your questions, and feel free to PM if I can't do them justice. @PizzaFactory and @eliezer1510 are also available to answer questions.

Interview is MMI. I'm not involved, and I think everyone who has interviewed has signed a non-disclosure agreement.

I'll let other people who interviewed tell you more about the students here, though I've been very happy.

The facilities are pretty up to date. Just finished construction on a new building, and we have a great clinical skills facility in one of the basements.

The curriculum is currently, for the most part, systems based, with exams on every subject you're taking every three weeks on the same day.

Most students live in the city of North Chicago, which is NOT CHICAGO, for the first two years. It's about thirty miles north of Chicago. A very sleepy place with not much to do, which is to your advantage, in my opinion; fewer distractions means more time to study for classes and step 1 during the first two years. In the third and fourth year, most students move to Chicago as most of our clinical rotations are located there. I've been very satisfied with my experiences, and if you want to hear more about the specific sites, I'm happy to communicate via PM and put you in touch with some other M3s and M4s.

There are many research opportunities. Basic science is easier to find than clinical research, but both are possible with hard work.

Feel free to post any other questions here!

I'm devastated by this as you obviously have incredible taste in movies, but I hope you have a fantastic med school career!

Is anyone going to the accepted student visit day in January? I'm OOS, so debating whether it's worth it...

In all honesty, if you are out of state and you know 100% you will be attending the school, there is no need to come. If, on the other hand, you are deciding between multiple schools, definitely a good event to attend.

Thanks! So far I'm deciding between this school and a school in Florida. Very different schools and very different locations! I had assumed that most revisits were later in the year, but I guess it's good to see North Chicago in the winter. 😀

Hi all - this is my top choice for medical school and I was placed on the waitlist yesterday. Is it advisable to send a letter of intent asap? Or should I wait it out? (I have another II from a school next month)

And along with that, any idea on the chance of acceptance for those on the waitlist?

Go to your other med school, see what happens there, and if you aren't accepted at either, start groveling! If you're accepted at the other one, think about whether you'd rather be here or there. If the answer is CMS, send a letter. If not, send nothing.

A little late here... II on Tues as well! I am so happy to have the opportunity to interview here! Maybe I will see some of you on 01/14 which was the date I was able to schedule for!

Planning to interview at RFUMS 1/7/15...could someone tell me about how long after interviewing you were notified of your acceptance status? Thanks!

Withdrew my 1/14 interview spot, hopefully one of you grabs it! Good luck!

Hi Guys! Has any of the fellow acceptees received anything via snail mail other than the acceptance letter?

submitted secondary nov 26 but haven't heard back--does anyone know when they send out interview invites?

The time it takes for interview invites varies depending on when you submitted it by quite a bit.

I don't think anyone will be able to answer that one.

For me everything was submitted and complete by the end of September and I still have heard absolutely nothing. That is fairly typical although hopefully it will pick up more after the holiday break. Good luck!

I will applying this year. Preparing to take the MCAT in July 2015. Nervous, but I guess it's natural right. Anyone else taking the new and revised MCAT?

Does anyone know if we need to fill out the housing application quickly? Or can we wait to see if there is someone that we want to be roommates with?

Sorry if this has been repeated--but anyone successfully flown into O'Hare without renting a car and just stayed within range of CMS and used hotel shuttle? I have friends in Chicago, but seems like a lot to rent car, get to Interview by 8 am from downtown. Thanks!

I don't think it opens until 1/2/14, so maybe they're just a little late in allowing it to accept apps.

yeah, it should open today 1/2/15. if anyone has success applying for on campus student housing, please post on sdn! oh and RFU's office is closed until 1/5/15 for the holidays.

I was able to apply for housing about a week ago and I received the confirmation email.
