Is this information searchable on the internet regarding Dr. Ratts and her vision for the future of WUSM? I can't seem to find anything beyond the fact that she is the new Dean of Admissions.

Having met with her (as an MS4) about some admissions stuff, this is definitely true. It just takes a little time to make big changes happen.

Hi guys,

I was accepted MSTP (woohoo!), and in the note from the MSTP director, it mentioned the med school required me to send in a 100 dollar deposit. But then in the stuff from the actual med school, I only found two forms to fill out and no mention of a deposit or who to write the check out to. Did you guys send in a deposit with your forms? And if so did you send a check and who did you address it to?

EDIT//
I called this morning, and apparently while the MSTP letter still mentions a $100 deposit, the med school no longer requires this and it's just a miscommunication between offices.

Hooray! Carl Sagan has come back to life to be a scientist again!!

(I like your profile picture.)

So I interviewed at the end of October and was not accepted with the first batch 🙁. However, when I check my status with the online applicant portal, all that it tells me is that my items--such as letters etc.--are in and it tells me the date that I was offered an interview. Is this lack of a status change after having interviewed and acceptances gone out translate to a "Hold" status? Anyone in the same boat?

Did you get a formal rejection? otherwise, how do you know you weren't selected?

They might just be back logged. I would wait until end of December before making any assumptions regarding your status. Hang in there!

I was accepted and my status is exactly like yours. The only thing that's different is when you click "home" it says "Acceptance Tuition Deposit Paid." I don't think the application status changes after you get an interview.

I interviewed in the middle of October and haven't heard anything back. When I was asking them at my interview, they said you could hear anytime from the first meeting (in November) up until March. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most schools, from what I hear, sometimes re-review files as the interview season goes on for acceptances.

+1
Honestly it was surprising to know that some decisions were already release because the new director said they were still figuring out the timeline and the procedure of giving out acceptance since she just took over recently and many changes are in place. She even said some decisions will come out April when I interviewed early Nov. Good luck!

Does anyone know if Dr. Ratts is receptive to applicants emailing her directly? They gave out her card at my interview day but she wasn't there in person. Wondering if it would be appropriate to send my update/interest letter straight to her rather that the admissions email.

I am wondering the same thing.

I asked her at the wrap up session (back in October) who to send updates to since I had a publication come out. She couldn't remember the usual email address, so she said it was okay to send them to her. I know that either her or her secretary got back to me with a confirmation a few days later.

Thanks! Anyone think we'll see another round of acceptances before the new year?

I hope so! Based on how she talked about the admissions committee, it sounded like their meetings were relatively infrequent (>monthly). That being said, it's nearing around a month since the last time that they met in mid-November.

II tonight! Incredibly excited to visit my hometown. Can anyone provide any helpful insight/advice about the interview?

It is one of the most low key interview days I have been on. It is a pretty small group of students and between the dinner, breakfast and tour, I found that I got a lot of contact with the students. As you probably know, there is a long, open file interview that is pretty focused on what you have done and where you want to go. There is also a short, closed file interview that seemed to cover very basic questions about why medicine, etc. The lunch was the best part of the day. They take you up to Queeny tower and some faculty come to eat with you. If you are lucky, Dr. Teitelbaum from pathology will come to eat with you - easily one of the coolest guys I have met. Basic takeaway: very low stress and enjoyable day.

low-key |ˈloʊ ˈˌki| (also low-keyed)
adjective
not elaborate, showy, or intensive; modest or restrained: their wedding was a very quiet, low-key affair

Not sure I agree with that, but I agree it was low-stress. 🙂

That'd be so exciting! At the same time, I'd hate to casually check this thread a few hours from now and see people posting acceptances, but without getting one. I know that lots of folks get in later in the cycle, or off the waitlist, etc etc, but I have such a good feeling about WUSTL as a program and about my interviews. (Of course, I think they try harder than most other schools to have everyone leave feeling good. I like that, but it might cause more applicants to have unduly high expectations).

Has anyone heard anything today? I got a missed call from (314) 362-0000 which Google shows as a Barnes Jewish Hospital number...but no voicemail was left! AGONY

Seems too coincidental not to be what you hope it is... 🙂

Definitely sounds like good news! When did you interview?

Yeah I was trying to keep my expectations low going into the interview considering I'm quite a bit below the average stats here but the interview day really blew me away. Definitely got my hopes up...

I think on the home page it said Congratulations you've been accepted or something (nothing changed on the status page)

Btw my phone call/decision came last month -- sorry if I freaked anyone out!

I interviewed on 12/3, so it seems to soon to be hearing back. Oh well!

Maybe... but then who was calling you from JBH? (This is just like Serial...)

I was accepted a month ago (less than 4 weeks after interviewing) with an evening phone call, and I was told in that conversation that my page would be updated the following day at the same time that the acceptance packet was sent out. Don't read too much into the order of things! And good luck to all!!!

I tried calling back the number, because I'm crazy, and it just said in an automated message "someone from Wash U School of Medicine tried to call you. Sorry it was unsuccessful" and then hung up. I'm crazy but I don't think I'm crazy enough to call the admissions office and ask who called me. Maybe I am. GAH

Oy. I see only one rational response here: login to the portal and click refresh repeatedly until either 12:00 am comes and goes or there's some indication that you're in. Or simply stare zen-like at your phone and will the person to call back. Either way will work fine. 😉

Think you just about summed up what I'll be doing the next 2 days...

It's BJC😛

The silence is maddening. Has anyone heard anything yet today?

Wash U threw an II my way just now! I managed to snag a mid-January date. OOS, 77, complete late July.
