Hey, I never been to Nola and I am planning to stay a a few days there to check out the scene after my interview. I am wondering where should I stay and If I should rent a car and if there are plenty parking spots? I do not want to be dropping an extra $25 -40 on parking daily, kinda on a budget, but I don't mind spending the money on the car if it is worth it.

If you're considering hotels, the ones listed in the II email may drop the price if you call them and ask for the Tulane rate. I went with the St. Christopher, and the discount was actually quite hefty.

Parking isn't too difficult if you don't mind walking a block or two. The school of Medicine is sort of in downtown, but on the outskirts. So you can easily Park a few blocks away and be fine. I used to live in New Orleans and never had issues parking in that area.

The street car will take you most places that are noteworthy, but if you want to explore the city a bit more, maybe visit the Northshore (Mandeville) you'll need a car. I recommend renting one.

So this is a random question, but has anyone submitted and had their application verified early in June or July and hasn't received a secondary or a rejection??? I haven't heard anything since from Tulane and I'm wondering if I should call or just assume they silently rejected me??

Help would be much appreciated. Thank you and good luck to you all!!

Yep. Complete July 20th. No word yet. Just crossing my fingers and waking up each morning to see emails from not medical schools which has forced me to unsubscribe from basically everything LizzyM73

Hmm, marked complete 8/20 and had that red check by "in progress" until this morning. Now it's green!

Does that mean I should hear something soon? for better or worse!? lol

Not necessarily, I had the green checkmark for a while before I heard anything.

The lots by the med school are $4 per day. I've left my car there overnight several times and it's been fine. You'll have to walk a bit to the get to the Quarter, but I've also made that walk a lot and it's not that far. There are lots closer that are a bit more expensive, so it depends on your budget.

Soo they interview about 500 applicants, about 200 matriculate, but does anyone know how many they ACCEPT? (trying to determine acceptances chances after being selected for interview)

There's "supposedly" free parking if you keep heading down Tulane Ave. past I-10 on the street across from St. Joseph Church but I haven't tried leaving it there overnight. It's a long 15min walk which adds up if you are commuting there but finding free parking in NOLA is like finding unicorns.

With the new hospital there, that's mostly gone by 7 am.
If you're visiting and don't know the city well, just drop $3 on parking in front of the Murphy building, instead of trying to find free parking that's a hike and a potentially less safe area.

Ok thanks. I was starting to feel like I was the only one. It's interesting though because Tulane is one of the only schools I haven't received any word from... ? Let's hope we hear soon!

I haven't received word from the large majority of schools although my first submission was 7-19 and most recent submission was 9-1 so i suppose it hasn't been too long yet. probably within next two or three weeks ill start hearing more, hopefully

really? 400/500 accepted? thats like 80% in out of interview.
Real number is probably closer to 300-350 for Tulane. If you get to the interview, your chances of acceptance are great. Administration has been a bit more cautious about giving out acceptances after overloading a class, I think, but we still accept most of those we interview.

is that including waitlist movement or just the straight up acceptances after the interview?

Excellent suggestions for a carless visitor near the downtown campus. My only change would be instead of Acme, when you are in the French Quarter and in the mood for oysters, go across the street to Felix's. Same great product, but the line is shorter and you won't have to pay for the Acme marketing / advertising campaign.

any non food landmark suggestions to visit in NOLA as well?

Louisianans are like hobbits, we plan our days around eating. At lunch we talk about what we're going to do for dinner. At dinner we talk about what we'll do for lunch the next day. "Diet" is a 4 letter word.

The World War 2 museum is enormous and a must see, if museums are your thing.
There's guided tours of the French quarter and the garden district. Street car line should be running again by the time interviews start so that's an easy way to get uptown.
If you want to hear some jazz, head to Frenchman street. There's swing dancing there sometimes too.

If you're into nature then both Audubon and City Park are very nice, as is the lakefront. The Fly at Audubon around sunset is one of my favorite places in town. I'm not sure how long you're in NOLA so this may be moot, but kayaking Bayou St. John is a relaxing way to spend two hours.

Thanks. I'm going to be there 4 days (including the interview day) so I'll have some time to explore the city a bit.

Stoke level through the roof about the ii waiting in my inbox!

I'll be down on September 28 and could not be more excited to check out New Orleans. Thanks for the recs ^

Good <<vibes>> to all you good people out there! If anyone's interviewing around then, gimme a pm we can go for a po'boy

Ugh just wish I could hear some news ... I haven't been complete all that long either. Only since August 20th. I can't imagine what those complete in early July feel like! No II's so far, but at least no rejections either.

It helps a lot when you lose hope. I was complete in early July and at this point I just assume I've been silently rejected.

Also how far is too far to send "in the area" emails to other schools? Florida? Georgia?

Received interview invite for Tulane! Very excited, seems like an incredible school and an incredible city. Is there an official Tulane Interview thread?

I definitely booked my hotel room at the Holiday Inn across from the super dome without realizing its Saints/Cowboys that Sunday.

Rejected some time last week. Submitted on 7/7.

A bit disappointed, but disappointment is a huge part of this process!

Rejected this morning. Complete 8/3. OOS. LizzyM 70-71. Good luck guys!

I've shared this gem before, but wanted to repeat - my friend got an interview invite in JANUARY and was accepted a few weeks after her interview and is now happily attending 🙂

this cycle is far from over!

this gives me hope 🙂
