2015-2016 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

Interviewing next week. Very excited. Any last minute advice?

Hi all. I recently received an email from an "Admissions Scheduling Assitant" asking me to resubmit a letter of recommendation since my professor forgot to sign it. I'm just wondering, could that mean that they are considering me for an interview and just need that letter?

It could. It could also mean you just have a letter without a signature though.

For people who have received acceptances, do they send an email or update the portal?

Looks like the first notification is via phone call... At least that was the case for me.

They're supposed to follow up with an official package via snail mail but I am yet to receive one.

My portal seems unchanged since my interview invite.

If you don't mind my asking, how long after your interview did you get the call?

Just realized I got an II here over a week ago and wasn't notified. Found out when I checked the status portal (it was in tiny font and I almost missed it; I even checked the day after I apparently got the II and missed it because it blended in with everything else. Maybe I'm just blind?). Check your portals, people!

I interviewed quite a while ago haha, so if you interviewed early and still haven't heard back, it's still okay!

Congrats!! What's quite a while? I interviewed a little over two months ago .... Feels inconceivable that an acceptance would come after that long but I can dream haha.

I think I was one of the first weeks of interviewing, so a while ago haha. But Wash U has a very funky and seemingly out of order way of handing out acceptances, so I wouldn't worry at all.

been stalking these forums for years but finally decided to make an account!

accepted here last week via phone call. interviewed early December. LizzyM 78. hope I did okay for my first post haha please let me know if I committed any sdn violations.
Starting off your SDN account with a bang! Congrats!

Any idea if there may be a bunch of acceptances happening before Feb1? or do you guys think WashU has likely already reached the required class size of acceptances for the Feb1 deadline ?

edit: I only see about 15 on here
Edit: my mistake. It's March ,15

Congrats! Interviewed here not too long after that so here's hoping I get some news!

when will we hear about scholarships? anyone know?

When I interviewed there last week, the fin. aid. office said they had not issued any. I didn't get a clear answer as to when, but I think they were indicating around March.

My understanding was that you probably wont have a full concept of your financial situation (unless you're a woman in the running for an Olin fellowship -- although your username doesn't lead me to believe this is the case!) with them until mid-late March once they've admitted all of their first round students. I wonder if they do that so that it roughly coincides with the need-based financial aid awards. I could have misinterpreted, but the financial aid office is so helpful that if you're really curious I'm sure they'd be receptive to your call.

merit scholarships (of which WashU has a ton) won't require your fafsa - started going out early February last year.

Just got an email reply from WashU telling me they never received my Dean's Letter. :grumpy:

Isn't the Dean's Letter the last step (and generally just a formality?) before the Adcom releases an admissions decision? Hopefully you'll hear some good news soon!
Awwww thank you! I HOPE SO TOO. It's just a bit stressful since my school confirmed that they mailed it in September. -______-
I'll just mail it again! Hoping that you hear some good news soon as well!

when did you interview?
Interviewed mid-October. I emailed them asking if they received the Certificate mid-December since it still wasn't checked off in the portal. I dunno if they finally just saw the email or actually finished reviewing my file haha. It's just a bit stressful since I no longer live close to my undergrad. Even if I include a pre-stamped envelope for the undergrad's office to mail the certificate, I don't think I can pre-pay for tracking/certification/delivery confirmation. (So in other words, this situation can happen again...)

Phuynh, I'd ask the administrative person for your undergrad's dean to pretty please request confirmation of receipt from WashU and keep you in the loop.

For those who have been accepted recently, have you received any materials in the mail or any status change in your portal?

I received my acceptance package in the mail about 4 weeks after my acceptance date (date of phone call)
, which was nice because the letter said to reply within 4 weeks of your acceptance date in order to hold the spot...

I emailed them and they said I should be OK since the acceptance package got to me late due to holiday delays.

Yeah, I'll try. I think I'll just have to keep extra tabs and notify WashU when my undergrad has signed and sent the letter, and then follow up later asking if WashU has received it. I feel bad asking the administrative person to follow up or request confirmation, especially when I can't pay for those services. Thank you for the tip, though!

Well that's interesting haha. Did your portal ever change?

@phuynh94 I got a similar message from them saying they didn't have my Dean's Letter. I got it rushed to them and was accepted literally the day they received it, so don't delay!

There is now a message on the first page after I login, which says

Congrats! Approximately how long after your interview did you get the call?

I just got an email from them asking for a deans certificate that says "We want to take action on your application but need a deans certificate." Does this mean they are interested or just need a full file to reject me? Have a 3.7/37

When did you interview?
Also, rejections don't come out until March as far as I know.
