Just another reminder that if anyone is interviewing this Monday (11/14) and wants to split an uber the day before from the airport-please let me know!

Where are you staying in New Haven? Most hotels offer rides from the airport to the hotel and to the school
Oh yeah they only offer rides to Tweed.I'm staying at Best Western. They have a shuttle to QU but not to Bradley Airport, which is where I'm flying into. I'll probably end up taking the CT Limo since it drops off at the hotel-just thought I'd check and see if anyone else was planning on doing that as well!
For QU specifically, or in general?
The interview was really nice. I got there a little late (my uber took forever...), but everyone was very nice and accomodating. The facilities are beautiful and the admissions staff seemed excited to have prospective students there. There was the standard introduction to Netter, financial aid stuff, etc etc. Then two interviews that were relaxed, but it was clear that they had some specific questions that they wanted answered, mostly revolving around primary care. Then lunch with students who were very candid about how new the school was and how they liked it.
The highlight for many people was the time with the dean of admissions who memorizes a lot about the students, but personally I thought that was kind of cheesy and a waste of time. He went through each applicant and talked a bit about their history. He said this was to give us exposure to the types of people that applied here and the people who may be your future classmates, but I kind of felt like it was a waste. It wasn't a huge deal, but he went over on his allotted time, and as such our tour got cut short... That was kind of irritating. It was great to learn about the other applicants and all, but interviewing is expensive, time consuming and stressful. I would have preferred it to be a little more business-like. That said, most people here and on the formal SDN interview reviews seem to really like this process, so maybe I was just tired and grumpy.
Overall, Netter really impressed me. The students seemed very, very happy and very comfortable with the school. They were honest and up front about how new the school was, and didn't try to hide it, which I really appreciated.
That's my long ramble-y response... I hope it helps. Sorry if it's poorly written, it's early and I still haven't had my coffee
Could any current students give a brief run down of what their course schedule is like day-to-day as well as what exams are like (format, frequency, etc)? Would love to hear your insight!
I say essentially the same that this individual says for the interview process. Except I love the Dean, seriously the coolest Dean of Admissions I've ever met at a medical school. Though I don't believe he completely memorized everyone's app (he has an Ipad in front of him the entire time...). The people here are extremely honest and upfront about their school, I can attest to this as well. Easily a good fit for me just from that. I had ~6 interviews over the course of my application process, and never has a medical school been so honest about who they are, I appreciated that. I had issues with their residency match (they are too young to have statistics), and my interviewers acknowledged that. They said that their Step 1s are 'good' (though I'm not sure about actual stats.. I hope someone can help me find them), and they will have no problem matching, at least in primary care.
Does this school preferentially takes applicants who want primary care?
Sorry for the delay in answering this question!
We have class every weekday from 8 AM to 12 PM, and we also have more class on Thursdays from 1 PM to 4 or 5 PM. Class is a mix of lectures (which are not mandatory), small-group sessions (which are), and anatomy lab (which takes up most of the morning; for example, this week we have anatomy Tuesday 8-12 and Friday 9-12). In addition, we go to MeSH one afternoon per week, either on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We have one exam every five or six weeks depending on the length of the block. Exams are multiple-choice; in the first year, half of the questions are from the NBME and half are written by our faculty. (I think a greater proportion of questions are NBME in second year.)
You'd be surprised how much Dr. Yeckel remembers about applicants, interviewees, and current students. I don't know how he does it!
As for Step 1 score, from what I've heard, the charter class scored slightly below the national average (mainly because there were one or two people who did not pass the first time). The current third years scored above the national average. I don't know exact numbers though. The charter class is currently applying to and interviewing for residencies, and from what I hear they are doing well and getting a good number of interviews. About half of the class is applying to primary care specialties, but we have a lot of EM and surgery applicants too.
I don't know if the school has a preference when accepting applicants, but once you are accepted, they don't try to pressure you into primary care or anything. Netter will give you resources and support no matter what specialties you are interested in.
Are lectures available online to watch in video format?
Awesome! Thanks so much for your help! Excited to interview here.Yup! Depending on the lecturer, about 1/3 to 1/2 of my class will be present at lecture at any one time. Regardless, you can watch and rewatch the lectures online (and yes, there are options for 1.5x and 2x speed if you are so inclined).
Anyone one interviewing on Friday, leaving from NYC and taking the Metro North?
I already interviewed but that's the route I took if you have any questions about how to navigate your way there 🙂

Congrats! Did they email you?Accepted!! OOS, interviewed 11/4
Congrats! Did they email you?
Hey, thank you for answering questions on here!
Just wondering if you could possibly name some surrounding areas/ cities that are safe and not too far from campus to live. Any input would be helpful!
Thank you so much! That's very helpful. Most of my class lives in either Hamden, New Haven, Wallingford, or North Haven (roughly in that order from most to fewest number of students, from what I can tell). Houses and apartments in those cities are all within 10-15 minutes' drive of campus. The cities surrounding campus are generally quite safe, though New Haven seems to have a larger number of sketchy areas.
+1II this morning!
II this morning!
7/20 is when I got the email from them that they had recieved my secondary.Congrats! When were you both complete??
II via email, complete late July, LizzyM 70, OOS. Available interview dates are for mid-December.
I have a question about catching my flight after the interview. Does anyone have any thoughts/opinion as to whether I would be okay to schedule a flight from Bradley that departs at 7:30 pm the evening of the interview? It looks like the day should wrap up around 5pm or so. I plan on renting a car (unless the CT Limo option is better and a reliable option).
Can any current med students tell me about the surrounding community health /public health initiatives or research available for students?
Congrats!!II! Second of the cycle and super stoked
OOS LizzyM ~ 70 complete mid august. I clicked the schedule link twice and the dates available changed in-between :O. I saw dates in early-mid december and snagged one of those.
Good luck to all those still waiting! Stoked about this school showing me love!
