2016-2017 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do they email the II's or just update the portal?
It seems like the portal updates first and then you get an email a few hours to a day later. Although I think some people have said they didn't receive an email at all

II! Has anyone already done their interview here this cycle? Any advice?

II email just now! No dates are showing up as highlighted green for me, I guess I have to call the admissions office tomorrow to schedule it...? EDIT: It says above the calendar "Please contact the Admissions Office to make arrangements for your interview visit."

This is probably the buggiest, most annoying secondary portal I have dealt with so far...

P.s. mine was an email without a portal update, so there is hope for pleasant surprises yet!

Does wash u accept application updates?

What the heck do you mean there is still hope? It's September, literally one month after August, relax

Haha sorry, just super excited about this school and people submitting at the end of August have heard back so I'm a little on edge

None of the dates on the calendar are green for me, and it says "contact admissions to make arrangements". Anybody else had to call them?

Yeah, easy to schedule! They basically let me choose any date in October...either that or I just got lucky with the first date I suggested. I specifically asked if the blank calendar meant I was in a different group of applicants or something and they said it was just a bug in their system that a lot of people experienced 🙂

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure this wasn't a surprise phone mini-interview or something. Though I suppose if that was the case, they would have made you guys agree to not tell other people about it... Don't mind me, just developing a mild case of application season-induced paranoid schizophrenia over here... :ninja:

Anyone who's already had an interview, how many interviewers did you have? Like for example, 2 faculty interviews that lasted around 30 min? Just want to get a sense of what to expect! 🙂

Two interviews with faculty, one 45-ish minute open file and one 20-30 minute closed file! Was told by a current student that some people are also randomly assigned to have a third interview with an MS4, and that it means nothing, they're just testing out different interview styles. Everyone at my day, however, just had two 🙂

I received a letter late last week saying congrats on my MCAT score (not quite their median and mine was evenly split.. not heavy on bio like their average) and letting me know about opportunities for women at their school. Is it worth applying here this late in the season? I was not sure if they just sent this to a lot of people. I had not even considered since their MCAT median is so high. Thoughts? Thank you!

Personally, I don't think so. If you really want to go here though, and you're ok with possibly wasting 100 bucks, go for it.

I checked MSAR and apparently WUSTL interviews ~1000 applicants, which seems like a lot for such a highly ranked school. I'm just wondering if it's worth spending the money to travel to St. Louis.

Harvard interviews about ~1100 IIRC.

Anyone know specifics about timing on interview day? For example, if I booked a flight out of STL for 5:15 pm after the interview, would I have enough time?

Yup. Everything wraps up around 3PM latest. It's about a 20 min ride to the airport on the metro, and since STL is a smaller airport, the security lines aren't very long.

Do they accept updates ?

*checked higher up in the thread and saw that they do via email

Anyone know what the actual interviews are on the itinerary? It doesn't say what's an interview just has doctors names on it.

Anyone know off the top of their head when Wash U starts sending out acceptances?

Can someone comment on their experience of staying at Olin?
Assuming you're referring to staying there pre-interview...

Pleasant.

You get your own room with bed, desk, sink, and mini-fridge (IIRC).

Most rooms don't have showers, so you'll have to use the bathroom shared by the floor.

It may have also just been my defective AC unit, but my room was FREEZING and the blanket/sheets were very thin, so pack accordingly. Otherwise, soo nice having your own space and incredibly convenient!
