Congratulations to you too!!! Ok I feel more confident it was real now. Do you know when they’re going to ask us for that 2k? I zoned out during the financial aid pres

Can I ask when y'all interviewed? :)

since the NW page sucks and no one responds... does anyone know if there is a chance of getting pulled from WL prior to March? Chances?

I think they said they would start in April at the earliest?

Current student. Happy to field Qs. DMs are fine if you feel so inclined.

A little about myself: lizzM: 69. From a UCSB/UCI/UCSD tier school. Ties to the region. Currently live in the Pomona area. Resoundingly average in terms of class rank with zero stress. Just finished my first year. I truly believe that western was a fantastic choice for me and I have no regrets.
Hey! I was hoping to ask you a few questions about the school if that's okay with you still, but i'm unable to view your profile to DM you. Could you please send me a DM?

ISAC was like a cult. if you were in, you made a typically very tight knit durable group of friends. I'd say the majority of students didn't want to do it and are glad that they didn't though. I'm one of them. I almost did it, but boy am I glad I didn't. Extra rent. Extra work. Terrible rates (like 12 bucks/hr or something as a TA iirc). I'm not sure it's worth its weight in effort on residency apps.

But if you're thinking about doing it, it's not the worse thing in the world. worse comes to worse, you lost like a month in the summer. It's not that bad. I just wouldn't do it.
Do you know of any students that ride bikes to school? I'm considering moving to a location not super far away from the school and I'd like to soak up some sun rays by riding the bike but it seems a bit sketchy in the area surrounding the school.

I actually don't know of any commuter cyclists. Not a single person. And I know maybe half of my class. I myself used to be a somewhat avid biker. I gave that up when I came here. If I lived in one of the more affluent neighboring communities, like chino hills or claremont, i would bike to the grocery store. But I live in the daum/helix/777.

If you go in broad daylight, you'll probably be fine. I know of people who walk to and from monterey station. The trouble is when it gets dark. I personally wouldn't bike around in pomona after hours.

Does anyone have any tips/advise for the MMI?

Yeah, it's really not something to stress a lot about. I was incredibly worried about it but it really wasn't a big deal.

The best advice I can offer is just to try to be a nice, considerate person and you will be fine.

That's too bad. I was hoping to avoid that expensive parking pass. Do you know anyone that parks in a remote location with maybe a short walk to campus? Or is it dangerous enough that most people just park on campus?

ah yeah tons of people do that. i have some friends who park a little off campus in the free streets. When you go back to your car at night, see if a guard can come (i don't know how far they'll escort you). i know some who parked in a certain parking structure and never got caught for 3 years now. I have other friends who do the daily rate. The daily rate is like 2 bucks. The parking pass is ~500/yr if i can remember right. So it comes out to ~1.5$/day. So you only need to come fewer than 3/4 of the year to come out ahead. So basically, you'll come out ahead.

For peace of mind and ease of parking, most just get the parking pass though.

Nice, thanks.

How often are you on campus? I'm someone that will probably only go to class when I absolutely have to, and mainly just watch/listen online.

i live on campus. and same. most people will become like you. ~30/230 of our class goes to non mandatory in-person lectures.

Does anybody remember in your interview them talking about trimming the hours of the curriculum down to 25 hours per week from 30? I thought I remember them saying that. And they recently adjusted their curriculum so testing is every other week instead of every week? I was so nervous during the interview I can barely remember what they said...

They have grad housing on campus?

Yes, the Daumier is graduate housing and they have their own parking lots. The lots are not gated, but the parking pass is included in rent. Rent also includes all utilities, wifi, and cable, but you do have to pay for your own electricity though.

I don't know the exact hours, but aside from anatomy lab, OMM and CMR, lectures are not mandatory. They for sure trimmed down OMM hours. We do have weekly quizzes as well. At the end of each block we have an assessment week where you have your anatomy practical, OMM practical, OSCE and a written exam covering everything. Following assessment week, there is a conference week where we have a few mandatory lectures and some optional. In addition to those lectures during conference week, we are administered a board style exam, with questions pulled from NBME/NBOME qbanks.

Oh okay. How many days of the week have mandatory lectures?

Usually Monday, Tuesday, and Friday have mandatory lectures. Mon/Tue are anatomy, CMR and OMM classes. Friday is a case wrap up day. They present a case on Mondays and we have questions we work on regarding the topics we cover that week and how they pertain to the ase of the week. We meet on Friday and go over the case of the week and the questions. They also have anatomy review days which are mandatory, but the schedule varies.

If anyone has additional questions, please feel free to DM me. I am currently a first year, non traditional student, CA native. I am more than happy to help with answering questions, reviewing personal statements or secondaries, and I can give you my take on Western, as well as other schools I interviewed at.

Hey! Were you able to find a Facebook group for the COMP Class of 2023? If not, we should start one!

One will be created specifically for your class and only those confirmed to be attending will have access.

Not sure if anyone else is applying late, I was verified 1/15 and received secondary 1/18. Surprised by how fast the turn around was, I'm hopeful

Completed secondary, on the Western status check site and it says: "Awaiting Reference - Physician Reviewed & Science Professor Reviewed" Is this normal? I sent my LORs through AACOMAS (via Interfolio), does this mean they're just verifying them again...or is there something else I have to do?

It is normal. That's what happened to me. It is like they are verifying it again. If you want to be sure you could call them.

Anyone else from 1/17 not hear back? I assume silence = waitlist? Does anyone have information on this?
They said 2-4 weeks, possibly up to 6, during the interview day. Maybe they just haven’t gone over your stuff yet!

Anyone have any luck calling to get any specific information regarding their application status (pre-II)? I got my secondary in a few days ago, and would like to call and see what info I might be able to gleam from them. Thoughts? I'm applying to the NW campus as well, so if you have any insight for that as well it would be appreciated.

Thanks! Good luck to everyone.

Received the call today - admitted!
