They said the same at my interview too. How much stock to put into those statements I don’t know, but I’m sure the capable students will end up at good residencies regardless
 
Hey y’all! I got a call from KPSOM on Wednesday but was overseas and only heard the voicemail today. Were there interviews held on Thursday or Friday of this past week? Wondering because I hope I didn’t miss a chance at an II

Around when did you interview? During my interview someone straight up asked if they would compare to T20s and the CEO/dean was making around-the-bush we-will-have-to-wait-and-see statements. (I appreciate the honesty though)

Curious if they had any new developments that sparked confidence.

Out of curiosity, why does this residency matching sound like a bigger issue in this Kaiser thread? I'm also subscribed to other threads for new schools (Carle Illinois, TCU, Dell Texas), but the worry about residency matching discussion is not as pronounced as it is here. Is Kaiser at a disadvantaged compared to these new medical schools that are located at a university when it comes to matching?

My guess is that many of Kaiser's interviewees have offers at other high-ranking schools and are trying to decide if the free tuition is worth the gamble. Based on the faculty at Kaiser, I would venture to say Kaiser is a safe choice.

I interviewed in January. But you do realize rankings are based on research grants, etc. in my opinion Kaiser sold itself as a medical school for people who want to work in the community, be leaders, change the system. And their definition of research isn’t wet labs, but rather data, quality improvement etc

Wet lab research will be available at Caltech for MD-only students, and will be encouraged for the scholarly concentration.

What factors into residency matching? Isn't it like 70% your step scores?

It’s definitely this ^

My mentors have all told me to not go to Kaiser unfortunately and to pick a school with a reputation. They said no matter what you do as a student, PD’s will be wary of anyone from a brand new school since they won’t know what the training will be like.

I actually got a call but not an email. However, they would have left a voicemail for sure. They did leave a voicemail for me.
 
Sorry if this question has already been asked - but does anyone know if this school accepts letters of interest or updates?

they are rolling admissions so it’s both. They will be accepting as they see fit, but will give out decisions to everyone who interviewed in mid-March

Someone said previously that they only take update letters post-II. Anyone know if this is true. Haven't received an II yet and I'd love to get one....

I was honestly assuming they would likely provide a hotel since they did for the interview, but no idea for sure

How often does their committee meet and send A’s to recent interviewees?
