2019-2020 NYU, Long Island

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Based on what he said my interview day, they’re still in the process of raising funds for next year’s class, so I think the number of seats is highly dependent on that. I think NYULI’s website now says 24 seats, which is what he said on my day as well!

I think it might have also been because they were still in the process of adding a new residency option (family medicine I think?) so maybe they cut back down to 24 in later interviews to be safe depending on the timeline for credentialing.

Ugh I hope not; I'll call tmmrw.

At my early September interview he said what was said above. They hope to be expanding the class, but need the funds to do so. There are only 24 guaranteed slots but hopefully more will be added.

Called and they said seat count increase is determinant on the funds/credentialing of the Family Medicine residency; for now 24 seats to be on the safe side and if anything changes they will let us know.
Are interviews only on Tuesdays and thursdays?

Good luck; try not to count the number of interviewees and compare to possible seats like I did lmao.

Update us with any approximate decision date the dean tells yall

-dean said spots are capped at 24
-a couple A's will trickle out but most will be in March
-It looks like seats are about 1/2 internal, 1/4th peds, and the rest split between surg and OB. interview day seemed proportional to seats

I just received II and the only date available was January 7th. Probably, the last interview slot since I was completed 11/09.

Any internal medicine specialty applicants get rejected post II?

Yes, I am in at NYU, but rejected at NYU-LI! Good luck to all here, this is a great program!
I suspect they know who was already admitted to the main program and know that there is no way they would get picked instead of NYU.

IDK tbh because I think the two adcoms are independent. This was my first interview and I really mucked up the MMI for it (I literally saw them give me a 3/5 for one of the stations LOL), so it is probably because I interviewed poorly.

I'm assuming since an IM applicant heard back today, the other 7 positions are also filled and those acceptees just aren't in SDN to report it. I could be wrong, just throwing out my thoughts

I don’t think so. During my interview DeanOfAdmissiona said that a majority of decisions will be released in February/March. I’m sure a few decisions have been trickling in though

Interviewed early October and still no word

They explicitly said they would not fill the class until all interviews have been completed and since someone just posted about an II for a January date, I don't think that's the case. It's probably just a couple decisions now and the rest of the class will be finalized after interviews are all done for the season.

I will be interviewing o. 1/7 for IM

Some ppl are saying they might open up more interview dates. They are rolling admissions until March so there's still hope.
However, I was also told during my interview they may not interview until the end of the season if they find enough candidates by then

How did you improve your approach to interviews?
