Literally sh*tting bricks right now. Complete 8/13. Refreshing the portal and email inbox non-stop.......

Incoming late R? D:

Does Pitt yield protect (not trying to sound like an arrogant jerk, I know there are people with better scores than me, plus my essays could've been s***)? I just thought that with above-average stats and a family connection to the school that I'd have a good chance of getting a II.

Sorry 🙁
Your stats look very impressive but I see only 2 II in signature. Hope you will get some more in coming week.

what do you guys think it means if they "passed over my complete date" (mine was 7/30 and it seems that a lot of 7/29-8/4 heard back today), but I did not get an R? Is it like an internal hold?

Current MS3 @ Pitt. Happy to answer any/all questions, feel free to DM too

Since the student interview is closed file and the faculty interview is closed for MCAT/GPA, is this one of those schools where interview performance is weighted particularly heavily and MCAT/GPA aren’t as much of factor after getting an interview?

If anyone else has insight about this please let us know 🙂

Interview performance is heavily weighted at Pitt. Anyone who gets an interview is qualified academically. That’s why they have extra group excersises on the interview day for more evaluation points. I’m sure mcat/gpa play some role in acceptance, but the interview is definitely more important.

Good to know, thanks for the feedback! It seems like their post interview admit rate is about 50% which seems pretty generous!

Not sure if you can and/or allowed to answer this but do you have any general tips for the interviews or the group exercises?

Also did you hear this from other faculty/students or was that just your general impression?

I know updates are typically not appropriate until after being invited to interview, but I'm wondering if I should make one last attempt to make Pitt love me.

I have a 1st author pub that was just accepted. I submitted to Pitt 7/8 and have had silence since (not sure when I was complete because no complete email).

Anyone have experience/insight with this?

For what it's worth, I sent meaningful updates (pubs) prior to the II at Pitt, and got an interview. I think that research is very important to update (especially at Pitt) so I would do it. Congrats on the pub!

As a 521, 3.98 sGPA...I say no

Edit to clarify I have interviewed here
I also have a 521 and interviewed here so I don’t think they yield protect. I’m just as surprised to see a lot of people I’d have thought very qualified (more qualified than me imo) for an interview be turned down from this school. I’m gonna say I probably got it bc I have several unique/atypical activities in my app. Just goes to show you can never tell what they’re looking for.

I also have a 521 but nothing special about me. I doubt a top 20 school would yield protect though.

I think they’re just looking to really round out their class and get a good mix of people with different strengths. I’m sure they saw something in you!

I’m interviewing with a wayyy lower MCAT than you all and I feel like it’s a mistake haha

Aside from a high MCAT, I have less than a year’s worth of research experience, so that’s why I was surprised to get an interview here. Congrats on the II though! There’s definitely a reason for it!!

Pitt is a really holistic school and they have an extremely diverse class! Although they get tons of NIH money, they don't seem to have an obsession with research in terms of the kinds of students they admit. I felt like I met a lot of people with very creative and unique interests at my interview here last year.

Why do you think do? Don't those applications come later, and this is just mentioning interest? Do you think PTSP people are reviews later? Regretting putting down PTSP now :O
I indicated interest in all of them and got an II very early. I don’t think they’re reviewed separately
