2019-2020 Washington University in St. Louis

Same reaction here.

Though I actually think it's quite nice of them to remind those of us who have been passed over by this month's A waves that we aren't out of the running. I'm sure they're aware there are few secrets on SDN.

Lol this has no hidden meaning. Its just a massive email that they had programmed to be automatically sent

Not saying that. I'm also not suggesting the email wasn't programmed or that it's not impersonal. But the email pretty clearly communicates that positive decisions are pending for many of us, and on the heels of a number of A's (some for people who interviewed as little as a month ago). I don't think it's a stretch to imagine some thought went into the timing. Anyway, I prefer having received the email to not, but to each their own -- complain on if you like.

ok well I got an II but there are no interview dates!!! Anyone else ?

No need to stress, I know someone who was in the same situation here. Just give them a call tomorrow, they’ll get it figured out!

Would be really nice if there was a gift for a lot of us coming up this holiday season...

safe to assume all early (sep and oct ) interviewees are out of the running? similar to what's been discussed on the ucla geffen thread

That would depend on how many people they have accepted already. Maybe someone on the FB group can say how many have been accepted.

Though I’ll admit I may be biased or overly optimistic as one of those interviewees, I wouldn’t go that far.

A few factors make me believe that we are still very much in the running. While we have not been accepted in these initial couple of waves, WashU did say that the majority of their decisions are announced late in the cycle (we’re talking Feb/March here). Those who interviewed early are likely very good candidates, but the interview was not enough to convince the adcom to admit us early on. Assuming we are considered in every round of acceptances, the time may come when we are deemed “good enough” to be admitted based on what other applicants are still in the running.

Additionally, many adcoms on SDN have hinted at schools being more conservative with their numbers this year to avoid over enrolling. WashU is also aiming for smaller class sizes this year, so their numbers may be a bit wonky in general as they try to sort out and put together an ideally sized class. All that is to say that I think patience is warranted on our part. I believe there are likely more A’s in the tank, but they are not coming out at a normal pace. Sit tight 🙂

there’s no one in the FB group yet! I don’t think they’re letting people join it

they said merit aid decisions come out soon, right? also planning on turning down my offer, but curious to see what a potential package is like

What sort of relationship does WashU have with St. Louis? Is it well-regarded by the general public?

People who interviewed- what is the tone of the pizza night? And what should we wear? Thank you!!

it's extremely casual, so you're fine to wear whatever you're comfortable in. I had just checked in and decided to chill in my room for an hour before, but even coming out late it was light convo with some current students and applicants, with pizza, salad, and other refreshments. V low stress

Thanks so much! Good to know that it's low stress.. I was worried it might feel interviewish and I'd have to worry about appearance!

Hello - sorry if this been asked before; I received II but the dates offered clash with another interview. Is it okay to request the school to open other slots or should I just wait and other slots would open up at some point? Whats the best course of action in such case?

This late in the cycle, I don’t think a school would be willing to open up other slots for an applicant. I would call the office after the break and explain your situation. You have an interview that conflicts with all open slots here? It might be hard to make it work but you might have to do some travel maneuvering to get both of them in.

I had a conflict with the only date they provided me and just called the admissions office. They were VERY accommodating! They just asked me which dates I was available and gave me one of those. So just call and ask!

anyone know if aug/sep/oct interviewees get accepted in feb as well or if post ii silence at this point means wl/r? couldn't really tell from past threads

I think it’s very unlikely that they’ve accepted everyone they plan to from those early interviews. It seems that they go ahead and take the people they’re super sure on, which is a relatively small number. Then in feb/March, once they’ve seen their entire interview pool, they will go back and start pulling from the rest of the remaining applicants, including people who interviewed earlier.

Can any MSTP applicants share anything about the MSTP Committee interview? Unsure how best to prepare for this.

I don't have mine till later this month, but from my understanding they seat you in front of 10 or so faculty who are free to ask anythng about all your previous research experiences. My friend (who knows his research quite well and can explain it well too) found it more stressful than any of his other interviews...

Hey! I interviewed and was accepted MSTP. babykarat is right, there's ~10-14 faculty in a conference room. You enter and sit at the head of the table, and first, you're given some time to speak about the research experience that you want to focus on (IIRC), and then the faculty members ask you about your research. It sounds daunting but don't be daunted! They all come from different fields and perspectives, and I found myself surprised by the angles with which they viewed my research. I found it one of the most fun interview experiences and it went by very quickly. My 2 cents: Think of it as a lab meeting with strangers. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know" and think out loud if you need to. I think my interviewers at WUSTL were the most friendly out of all of my interviews, so don't worry 🙂
