So, slightly neurotic rant with a question for you guys/girls. I received an II on 8/21 and interviewed on 9/11 and the first thing my faculty interviewer said was “I’m gonna be honest, I haven’t even looked at your application, so I’m just kind of winging it”, and he expressed several times that it was the first interview he’s given. I connected with him well and related to him on a personal level, but we hardly discussed the program and he skipped over multiple questions the committee gave him. For several questions he said something like “oh well you can’t even answer that, let’s move on”. With that being said, I received a deferred status earlier today and I can’t help but feel that that’s a result of my superficial interview given that my interviewer knew very little about me and wasn’t able to adequately ask the questions or discuss what the admissions committee was looking for. I feel I match their mission exceptionally well and I’m IS w/ ties to the area and program, strong ECs with an LM of 70.
Geisinger is at the top of my list, and I’m debating on contacting the committee to discuss these concerns. However, I certainly don’t want to undermine their process and step on anyone’s toes and ruin the possibility (if any) of an acceptance later in the cycle. I recognize that there is a lot of unfairness in the medical school application process, but this one seems to be unprecedented. What would you guys/girls do?
