2020-2021 George Washington

I have an interview coming up in December. Will I receive email notifications for both the faculty and student interview? Also, is it necessary to download both zoom and webex?
They sent out email links to the faculty and student interviews really close to the date of interview (as in one or two days before). I think both of mine were through WEBEX but I would download both to be safe.

Okay phew I’m glad it’s an email link. I’ll download both apps - thank you so much!

Definitely! And good question. I'm also curious about what the update status for IIs has looked like previously? I know that your status goes to "under review" before an II, but not sure what happens after that. I've been checking my portal every day and still had a hold status last I checked (yesterday evening).
Still no email 🙁

My status went to "under review" a couple days before my II. Currently it says "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via the preferred email address on file with AMCAS. If you have not received this correspondence, please email us at [email protected]." which I believe is what it always says if they've sent you an email regarding your status.

For anyone who was on hold since summer and have now gotten interviews, did you send update letters? I've been on hold since July, no substantial updates (like I haven't published a paper or anything) but wondering if it would be good or bad to just update how much I would love the opportunity to interview. Thanks in advance!

My status changed to "Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent via e-mail." on Monday, but I still haven't received an email. Has this happened to anyone?

I was complete 7/14 and promptly put on hold. I didn't send any update letters and I got an II a couple weeks ago.

Did anyone receive information about who their faculty interviewer was before the interview? I don't see a name anywhere.

Anyone have any idea about when we'll hear back from the 10/27 interview date? (aside from the "up to 8 weeks" time frame that's specified on the portal)

I want to send an update but I don't have anything substantial to share. I worry that by not sending an update they'll consider me to be disinterested
I say send one! I saw people on here getting interviews after they sent updates, so I sent one and got an invite within 2 weeks. Mine wasn't really that substantial either (presented a poster at a virtual conference) but I just expressed my continued interest in the program

is there anyone who submitted an update but hasn’t heard back yet/still on hold?

Thank you!! Ah that's awesome!!! Congrats!!!! 🙂 Do you think it's okay if I include things that are still in progress?

I feel like yes! I guess I don't know all the unwritten rules etc but I think they just appreciate your excitement towards the school. Do other people have experience with this?

I think it can really be anywhere between two weeks after to eight weeks. I got my response 6 weeks after my interview, but saw people with interview dates after me hear back a lot quicker.

Did anyone send thank you notes to interviewers? If so, where did you get their email information, and how long after interviewing did you send the note?

Yep. Wrote one for each of my interviewers, and sent both through the GW portal. Interviewed on a Friday, and sent them on the following Monday

they replied to you?? I thought GW always ignored thank you emails...at least they ignored mine.... ;0
the director of admissions interviewed me so he replied! I'm assuming he's one of the people logged into the email lol

This is my top choice... I got an interview but am a bit nervous because I have a 504 MCAT score 🙁 I really pray this is a hollistic review
Omg that's awesome!!! Keep your chin up, you're still in the game!! I feel like MCAT would be more emphasized pre-interview selection than post - at least I'd imagine?

Yeah, I've heard it matters more pre-interview, too. Kill the interview, you got this!!

Just curious, why George Washington and not Georgetown? They're both medical schools in the same city that offer similar opprtunities

Well Georgetown rejected me and GWU gave me an II so that kinda made the decision easy.

Aside from that, GWU was my pick over Georgetown. I'm a DC resident so I've been to both campuses. I like the atmosphere at GWU better - I felt better connections with students and physicians I've met over there. I know it's not really a concrete answer to say I just liked the ~vibe~ at GWU better, but I just felt more comfortable. Additionally, I have a background in health policy and social justice and the additional opportunities that GWU offered outside of clinical medicine aligns with my values and future goals.

Also placed on alternate pool, got email around 7:30 this am but wasn't on laptop to post until now. Interviewed 11/6.
placed on alternate pool this morning. interviewed 10/22 GAH this really stings.
Sorry to hear that. 🙁 they're looking for updates from us, so make sure you send in any updates you might have! Hope isn't lost yet🙂

This will definitely be different for everybody, but I am very interested in reproductive health & health policy. As Georgetown is religious, they don't teach/support access to abortion, which I personally disagree with.

If I interviewed on 11/6 could I send a letter of intent? Or should I just wait until the admissions decision..
I debated this and ultimately decided to save it in case I get waitlisted (GW asks waitlisted applicants to send a LOI if they want to stay in the waitlist in spring). It worked out for me I guess..hahah
