2020-2021 Maryland

Has anyone who submitted their secondary in July not had a status change to 'under review' yet? I took an MCAT on 7/23 and then a second one on 9/11 and I'm starting to get pretty nervous that my application still doesn't say under review. My stats for UMD are low but I work at the hospital and know a decent amount of teachers/students and I am really hoping they will at least consider me because of my ECs and connections.

ETA: Forgot to mention I'm IS and have 2 LOR from faculty. My file has said 'complete' since end of August.

I would email admission, they are super helpful.

Okay, will do! I just wasn't sure If this was normal and don't want to come off too pushy or anything but I can definitely do that. Also, I just realized I accidentally said my portal doesn't say complete, but it actually doesn't say 'under review'

I submitted in early August. Mine says complete as well and has never moved to under review

Honestly, this is one of the most demoralizing aspects of the application cycle. I know people who’ve submitted secondaries the week that they opened with great stats and haven’t even heard a peep from UMSOM, but I also know others who have lower stats and have gone through the entire process and gotten acceptances. Like yourself, I’ve also been waiting but it’s definitely becoming harder to keep this hope seeing how others with completions going into September now are getting II

So true. Thanks for the response. Yes definitely hard especially because it’s one of my top choices, I have a legacy with the school (3+ generations), and grew up in the state

No problem. Only reason I still have hope honestly is because my SO was able to get in with nearly identical stats as mine and I would do anything to go to school together for another 4 years. Stay strong!

I'm very sorry that we're all in the same boat, but at least we're all in this together! Hopefully we'll get some good news soon!
 
Just praying for an answer soon, or for that status to change from complete to under review.
 
For those with II's/were accepted, how long were you "under review" before hearing back?

Submitted secondary 7/23, noticed "under review" status 8/13, got ii on 9/8 for my interview on 10/12!

The student ran the interview completely conversationally, just asked like how I'm doing and some questions about my applications but it was honestly hardly even an interview. Faculty was similarly casual but a bit more structured with some of the more standard why medicine, why UMD, etc questions. There's a q&a session with a dean of admissions and some med students (MS1s and MS2s), and a tour/short q&a with an MS4. They were super friendly, super low stress 🙂
