2020-2021 Stanford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For everyone who is worried about not receiving II, I know it is not easy, but try to relax and as Goro says , “assume you have been rejected from everywhere until you get that first A.”

There are no guarantees and this process is so random. Trust that schools will see the greatness in you as an applicant and if they don’t it’s their loss!
I do believe that even for folks who submitted late, if you bring something special or the school wants you they will find a way to get you!
Easier said and easier accepted by non-applicants than eager / hardworking applicants

No doubt (I am also applying so I know the feeling). But I think when we apply to top schools like Stanford and co., it’s good to stay mindful of how selective this process is , and that no II is guaranteed. When we pay the secondary fee that means someone will read our application. If it’s strong enough they’ll give us the chance to show what we are about in a II. At the end of the day, nothing will stop us from becoming physicians, so even having the chance to be at this stage of the journey is a blessing !

Wish it was that logical. You should read expert answers to some other posts. Luck, mood swings and personal likes of readers, and a lot of extraneous factors determine whether you get an II or not. If you don't get an II, doesn't mean you are not strong enough.

This process is draining for everyone involved. No need for you to be so cynical and unappreciative of the kind and encouraging response this person is trying to give you. And as the looks of it, you already have two acceptances, so if you're a doctor in the end, what does it really matter?

When was I cynical? Was just pointing out the truth that admissions is not logical and not to think one is not qualified because s/he doesn't get an II

"easier said and easier accepted by non-applicants than eager/ hard-working applicants." No one is discounting the fact that mood and personal bias affect the admissions process. I interpreted the users post simply stating that it't good to stay mindful of how selective the process is, especially at a school like Stanford. The digital tone of your messages seemed annoyed and unappreciative of the fact someone was taking time out of their day to give you perspective and words of encouragement.

Does anyone know if applying to the Knight Hennessy means your application will be reviewed later and IIs go out later, or is it just not true? Have people who applied to The Knight Hennessy gotten Stanford MD IIs already?

Some people that applied to KH have already gotten IIs. I don’t think it has any bearing considering how much they emphasize the application processes being completely separate. I hope at the very least they take into consideration that we applied to KH since the application was so time-consuming...we shall see!

Thank you 🙂 I think there’s still hope for more IIs!!
Lmao yeah that KH application was rough

Hi,
I did not mean to imply that the only people to receive IIs are worthy of such. I know that is not the case.
The process is random, so try to not let a process where there are so many uncontrollable factors affect you too much! Each school has a wealth of opportunities we can take advantage of to become the best physicians we can be. It is up to do so, all we need to do to get started is a single A 🙂.

Applied to KH and submitted my secondary in late July. No news since then. If they are going to R me I kind of wish they do so before I have to film myself for the KH video part of the application, haha.

Hahahah so relatable!! I ended up just doing the video part bcs I thought that they would not send me the R unless my KH application is complete. But I’m an international student so KH is one of the very few scholarships/aid out there for us so worth a shot!

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a whole debate. I was just curious what was happening because at a glance I saw people kept saying they got October VITA waiting for II and I hadn't recieved anything at all. Not sure if the fact that I did the VITA for another school in September would allow me to even get another VITA invite again for Stanford? Or if they are going down chronologically reviewing applicants, perhaps those already getting interviewed submitted before me, etc? Or if its rolling admission or not? Anyway, I was just curious, that's all.

Tell me about it. Good luck fellow international applicant!

Lol same same same, submitted my secondary on 8/5. I haven’t yet decided what to do for my video, but I’m hoping to hear SOMETHING back from Stanford before it’s due.

If I received an II, and I did not submit KH although I stated on secondary I had planned to, will this hurt me? I already submitted an update letter in October explaining that I am not applying to KH any longer due to change in goals and interests. I got the II long after I sent this update letter, so did they already consider this and wont ding me for it?

I don’t think it matters whether you did or didn’t tell them you were no longer applying. I believe they just have you check the box so they can keep tabs on it. It shouldn’t have any bearing since there are probably many people who check the box in July/August without knowing anything about KH or how the application works. They can likely see in your file that you didn’t apply and I wouldn’t think they’d take that into account at all. Plus, you got an II so clearly they like you regardless!

if we get the vita invite, does that mean we'll definitely get a II later on? has anyone here gotten the vita but no II?
Basically there’s a bunch of people (including me) who got VITA on 10/29 but haven’t received an II. One user with a cool profile photo of a blobfish finally got an II earlier this week though! That user is also in the 10/29 VITA crowd.

edit- And someone emailed admissions and basically they said that VITA is part of the pre-interview screening 🙁

If we've already done VITA for a different school will we still get a notification?

Ok guys I’m ready to take one for the team. It’s been four weeks since my VITA invite. Now how exactly do I politely ask about VITA/no II?
Maybe shoot a quick email asking for "clarification on the admissions process upon submission of your VITA interview." And maybe throw something in about the expected wait time if you'd like

@TOP_applicant : it would be less likely to get II in the future if SDN was just a small subset (meaning lots haven't posted), esp. since stanford only gives around 500. in any case, hoping for the best

I've heard applicants should expect to hear by mid-January with regards to IIs. Can't speak to the amount of IIs that have been sent out/are still left though

Does anyone know if people who applied to KH can hear about MD in January or if it only happens after KH interview/decision notification?

Is there a KH thread anywhere? And anyone else applying to KH and struggling with video ideas?

I don’t think there is, but I would join if you made one! I am also struggling with ideas lol.

It's as if Stanford sent us a "you up?" text at 2am, we responded, and then they left us on read.
At least they sent you a text. They've left a lot of us unread from the app stage itself 😂

Update: they do not have a timeline for when applicants will be notified for an interview. That's it. That's all they said.
oh man... it's like they enjoy watching us squirm 🤣 thanks for biting the bullet to ask though lol
