2020-2021 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I’ve been under review since 9/3. Should I contact them to see what’s up ??

Be patient! It’s a marathon. They also explicitly say they do not want you contacting them about your app
This is true. I did just see that on the portal. Love the support in this thread lol!!

Complete 7/20, OOS, status: (in-progess) .... *crickets*

So is being placed on hold for an interview essentially a rejection? Has anyone looked in past year threads and seen how the holds play out for people?
I know a few people personally who came off hold for interview and and even a few that ended up being accepted from that. Closer to when acceptances going out from other choices, people end up dropping their interview spots.

I don't understand. How can they seem to give out almost all of their interview invites without even reviewing all the applications? I am well within their stat ranges and I am not under review yet

Some schools simply value early applicants and getting through their cycle rapidly. I'm sure Tulane knows they'll be missing out on some very talented applicants who apply late but with over 10k applicants a year (and with the increases this year I wouldn't be shocked if they near 15k), they probably decided they can afford it. I just peeked at the 2019-2020 thread and it looks like a looooot of interviews were given to people complete EARLY July of 2019 (first wave, many were complete 7/4-ish) which is basically a week after AMCAS was transmitted. It's a really, really unfortunate reality that I think we all saw from Rosalind Franklin last year when they publicly admitted to many applicants that their apps weren't even read. This probably happens at other schools too but they just don't email their applicants that at the end of the cycle (for good reason: the backlash against Rosy was quite heavy)

Here is an interesting graph someone made a year ago using SDN thread info:

Looks like a massive peak of IIs and then a very small peak at the end of the year to fill up slots dropped by applicants who got in somewhere else and cancelled interviews

Thanks for the graph. I understand that they give out most of their interview invites early.

But that doesn't change the fact that they haven't even looked at my application yet.

Kinda wish I didn't apply here especially since they don't completely waive their secondary fee for FAP applicants... anyways I see people are saying the interview season is through February based on the website, but the secondary says through March. So maybe some hope for early August apps lol.

Oh wow I just noticed that it says until march in the portal. Still sad that I'm still not under review tho...

who knows.. I think its worth a shot. on last years II tracker there are people who submitted their secondary in mid to late september who got interviews. its not impossible

Just got placed on hold. Submitted 07/21 and Under Review 08/12, OOS. For a school that receives 12,000 apps I'll take it lol, keep your heads up my fellow on-holders we ain't out of this yet
Love the spirit fellow on-holder!!

HOLD’n it down, y’all. Hopefully not a soft R. Best of luck this cycle!

I submitted 7/20 and was placed under review 8/11. I haven't heard anything back yet. Seems like submitting early didn't really matter

Wondering the same thing! I'm interviewing next week and have no idea how I'll prep if there's a virtual patient portion
Hey! I had my interview last week and it went very smoothly, can't say much about the patient portion but the whole interview is very laid back and more of a conversation. They did a really good job with zoom and with the planning, if you have any more questions feel free to reach out

Can you open your DM’s?

Thank you so much -- that's so great to hear, I really like this program! Is it just 1 faculty interview, 1 student interview, and the patient?

Submitted my application 7/30 and JUST got a Complete email. 54 days.??????? I submitted a few days after I received the secondary too :/ People having interviews...did you guys submit super early? how do they do the order of application review?

Also, how long did it take for you guys to receive an II after being put under Review/getting complete email?

I submitted my secondary on 07/22. Was under review on 08/22. Received the II email last week. You can look at this tracker to see when other people with IIs turned in secondaries.

wait what? 54 days for a completion email?? so youre not under review yet? its so weird, i literally got my complete email less than a day after submitting the secondary (yesterday)... but obviously still not under review.

Just got my under review email. Not too sure it means anything though, given that they likely don't have many inteview spots left
when did you get your complete email? and what makes you think that there are probably not any interview spots left?

Thank you!! I was complete 07/29 and under review 09/09. I know a current student who got theirs near Christmas, so I hope some more come ya'll's way!

sooo confused, placed under review 9/11 and still no word back.. maybe by the end of day today? this whole application process is so random.. I've heard back from schools whose secondary I submitted like two weeks after tulane

I got the "received your secondary" email right after submitting. I did not receive a separate "complete" email.

The email I received today says I am "complete and under review".

Also, other posters have reported that they are scheduling interviews into February. So they likely have few left.

I don't think there's a specific timeframe where you can expect to hear back. You could be offered an II or be rejected way later in the cycle from what I understand

I submitted everything by 8/1 and I STILL haven't gotten the "under review" email. So frustrating... kinda feel like it's already over
