Speaking of LOI/Updates, is it appropriate to include a copy of the manuscript thats been accepted or do most people just give the title and journal? Also, is it okay to send an update about a paper that's been accepted but not officially published yet?

As far as I have heard (which could be wrong)... most schools don't want you to include a copy of a manuscript or links at all (just titles/journal and about your contribution). If it has been accepted for future publication I have to imagine it is okay (just my guess on this part)?

I would agree with that! I have another question (kind of random) but if an applicant publishes a mobile app, would links be appropriate? Or would I just say the name of the app and hope for the best?

Is the app relevant to science and medicine?

But don't send hyperlinks? I feel like that is counterintuitive.
Because you're assuming their systems allow them to click on external links, and that they have the time or interest to actually download and play with the app. The point is to let them know what you are up to, and to express continuing interest in their program. Not to give them a demo of your app. Your app is the equivalent of someone else's manuscript, which they also don't have the time to sift through.

For those of you who sent your preferred time/day for interviews, did you hear back from them within one business day as noted in the email? Because it has been 3-4 business days since I sent the email and have yet to hear back from them.

Email them again. I didn't get a response the first time for like 5 days... turns out they missed my email.

I got a response within a few hours after emailing. Definitely send a follow-up

For those that have interviewed, what was the general vibe? Do you get to know your interviewers beforehand? Any surprises/things you wish you knew?

This was prob my most chill interview of all and I loved it!! It's two one-on-one interviews, but you don't know who they are beforehand. I had an MS4 and a faculty and they were incredibly nice and warm and both were extremely conversational, almost to the point where I forgot I was interviewing and just thought it was a fun convo with a friend lol

n=1 but my interview was pretty relaxed. It really felt like a conversation. I didn't know who I was interviewing with beforehand but I didn't feel like that put me at a disadvantage! My interviewers were really nice and welcoming. The interviews are on the shorter side so definitely make sure you hit all the topics you want to and be concise

Also thought the interviews were very chill. Heads up though, I got one of the weirdest most random questions ever in the middle of one of the normal convos 😂 n=1 though, just know that anything can happen

My interview experience this week was really nice. The community at WCMC seems so great, and both of my interviewers were incredibly warm and friendly. It was already one of my top schools, but after interviewing it became my #1. Now comes the waiting game until March 🙂

Not to stomp on the positive vibes in the comments above, but Cornell was EASILY the most challenging interview I had. My MS4 interview was super relaxed/pleasant, typical of interviews I've had with med students, but I was grilled for a majority of my faculty interview. This was my last interview and even so, the 'big questions' I got were far different than anything I had encountered. That's not to say they were bad--I was super engaged! At one point my interviewer even said they'd stop beating down on me.... only to continue later on. 😆

That said, my interviewer was incredibly honest and transparent after the 'stress test' and it really stuck with me. I felt like I accomplished something coming out of the interview. It felt like the perfect wrap-up to my interview season.

So, to address the question above for future interviewees (at any school): it can be relaxed, or not. And if it's not, try to acknowledge that the harshness of the approach is not personal; they may simply be trying to see how you do under pressure, or how you think when you are being challenged. Take a deep breath and stay humble!
Are you MSTP?

I'll second almost this entire message. MS4 was super incredible and personable. And not to harsh the positive vibe, but the faculty interview was easily the most stressful one I've had, with them spending about 90% of the session with doubting/tough questions. Towards the end they were much nicer, but I definitely came out of it a bit more stressed than other ones. Otherwise, the interview day was great and I don't think you should worry too much! I really wouldn't stress about it since negative experiences seem to come around less often!

It's so interesting how varied these responses are. My Cornell interviews were chill as hell and I definitely did not get a stress test. I don't remember a single ethical question... if they asked me any, they were softballs. However, I did get grilled with hard ethical questions at another school where everyone else swears up and down they had the most conversational, friendly interviews ever. Tbh really goes to show how much RNG can go into this process 😵

When people talk about "stress tests", is that usually really personal questions, or is it controversial ethical questions?

Mine was very personal (background, hypothetical family scenarios, etc.), none about ethics

Question for current MD or MD/PhD students at WCM, how close is the relationship with HSS? Thinking about ortho and wanted to know about accessibility to participate in clinical research, basic science research and just general mentorship for the field. Thanks!

not a current student there but I worked within the Tri-I. HSS is a few minute walk from WCM. You'll have absolutely no problem finding a mentor. All of the institutions in the area are heavy on teaching and love students.

Also to add to my earlier message… II just now (submitted an update/LOI 3 weeks ago and submitted secondary 7/19).
How did you format your pre-II update/LOI? Update paragraphs and then a paragraph at the end about why you're specifically interested in the school?

I'm not one to argue but i just wanna make things clear incase this benefits anyone.

All ima say is that the day I made that comment I was literally at a post interview session at NYU and the dean said that letters of interest do not help onesoever, i simply repeated his words.

He said the only way they can possibly help is if you are CTE at one school and another school is deciding whether or not to pull you off the waitlist.

So sure you can find a "former coworker at cornell part of adcom process"(which is vary vague and can potentially include anything from med students and people barely even involved in any decision of significance ) meanwhile im specifically just telling the OP wat the actual dean of a highly regarded medical school told us.

All in all I just wanted to make it clear that I was just reiterating what a highly transparent Dean said and not just spewing rubbish

This obviously probably varies by school. If a letter of interest makes u happy, send it. Will it hurt? No. Is it a good use of time? Probably not
NYU grossman or lisom

Yes exactly but probably more specific then why I’m interested in the school, more like I’m interested in this specific program/experience.

Thought I’d answer this now that I have been through it. Definitely we’re conversational interviews. I agree with the statement that one is meant to be more friendly, while one is more pointed. But the latter didn’t feel as bad as a stress test, it just felt more probing, like they were really verifying a lot of my interests, research, activities, and were more straight faced while the other interviewer was very smiley and building me up. I didn’t have any ethical questions and almost every question felt like a progression of something in my app (so no curve balls even if it was a harder question). And they’re only 30min, so it’s over fast!

Has anyone emailed the main admissions address to confirm that their updates were attached to their file? I know we receive a confirmation when sending letters to the updates email address, but there's no way to tell that the updates were actually seen and added to the file.

Complete 8/3/2021 and haven't heard anything yet. Is this just a soft R or do you think they haven't reviewed my file yet? I'm not too hopeful, but I'd like to hear back. From what I understand, they send rejections in waves, and don't wait until the end of the cycle to do it--is that correct?

People in last year's thread were interviewing as far as Feb. It's not over yet!! Hang tight 🙂

I'm going to have a heart attack opening my 12/15 decision, i cant even imagine how stressful march is gonna b with the rest of the ivies
What 12/15 decision? I thought they weren't giving decisions until March.

Cornell historically ghosts until the end of the cycle so maybe they’re switching up on us?
