a lot of school will not consider your january mcat score for entering fall 2009...

This has been my experience. Virtually all schools have rules stating that they won't look at any MCAT score after September 2008 (and in some cases it's August). I have a very low PS score, but have managed to get 6 interview invites; I decided to retake the MCAT in January anyway, on the very slim chance that it might help me somewhere. Also, I thought it might help me get off waitlists, if I ended up there because of my MCAT score.

When I emailed all my schools after the test and very politely requested that they wait to make a final decision until they had seen my new score, I was FLOODED with negative responses, and haven't gotten a single positive response. On the other hand, the schools where I have interviewed (including CMS) seem very interested in seeing the new score, so it may well help me at those places.

There are a few schools that interview unusually late (including CMS, which interviews through May), but they are the exception. Most other schools have already given out their interview invites for the cycle, so if you haven't heard from them yet, and they haven't explicitly said that they'll look at your March MCAT score, your chances of getting an invite at this point are pretty slim.

If you want CMS to look at your new score, be sure to email them and let them know it's coming, and call them the day you get it, to make sure they're aware. I'm not sure if you can get them to wait for it before ruling on your app, but good luck trying.

I got a hold last week. I also interviewed in October. Has anybody ever gotten off a hold? It seems like with CMS, the best chance to get accepted is the review session right after your interview.

I'm assuming that this post-interview hold means waitlist. Does anyone know if this is a ranked hold?

No, it's not a waitlist. If it's a waitlist, they'll tell you you're on a waitlist through email (or at least, that's what they did last year ). It's a hold, but I don't know how long it'll take to get off the hold. I think they reviewed applicants this month, but since nobody has posted that they've been accepted for the past two months, I'm assuming a) nobody has been accepted or more likely b) people have been accepted, but not too many or c) people have been accepted but don't want to post that they have

So what exactly is the difference?

The difference is with the hold, we still get reviewed every month (or so they say). With waitlist, I don't think we get reviewed until all interviews have been given out and those interviewees evaluated before they look at us again.

edit: this is just me speculating; please correct me if i'm wrong

I interviewed in Jan, and they told us the "hold" system works the way you described. I don't remember exactly what they said about the waitlist, but I got the impression [could be wrong about this] that they don't really waitlist anyone during the interview season. I think they just continue to review them until all interviews are done, THEN issue final acceptances and put together a waitlist at that point.

yeah, that is what i remember them telling us on interview day. also, i checked last year's thread for CMS and this is exactly what happened.

Got an interview, March 30
Anyone know if they will they still have spots open that late?

Yeah, I think the waitlist works this way too. By May though, if they don't reject anybody, the number of ppl on hold will be huge considering how many ppl they accumulate over the year.

i'm withdrawing from rosalind franklin. i hope one of you guys who want to go there gets an acceptance soon. good luck

Thank you! Congrats on Rush!!!!

Hey all,

Not sure if this has been asked already (didnt wanna read through 10+ pages of posts), but I'm interviewing in a couple weeks. I know it's best to fly into O'Hare International Airport right? Anyone have recommendations for hotels to stay at? Also is it feasible, cost-wise, to take a taxi from the airport to campus and back?

Also any clue as to how long the interview day lasts? Would it be okay if I booked a flight out of Chicago for 5:00pm or so?

Thanks so much 🙂

[post=7664736]This post[/post] should answer most of your questions.
As for the flight, I caught a 3 pm flight with no problems.

Thanks guys for the useful info/fast reply! 👍

just accepted via email. first acceptance! what a relief..

congrats to those who have just been accepted!!

Congratulations student1799 and rx!!!

FYI Letter was dated February 9th so I guess it took a while for them to send the email

Congrats to those who just got accepted!!🙂

I interviewed just after the date you all said the acceptance email/letter was dated, Feb.9th... Do you think then that I would be in the next pool of interviewees to be decided on? In other words, I should not be expecting info. from the school today since I interviewed after the date on your acceptance letters? Sorry, I'm just anticipating a response, as we all are, in once sense or another. Thanks all, and good luck!!😉

I think the adcom meets once a month, so it sounds like you'll be in the next batch. Good luck.

has anyone been accepted after being put on hold yet?

yeah people have. i think if you don't get accepted the first review after your interview you are put on hold. but they still review you every month. so people have definitely been accepted months after their interview

did any1 get an invite from RFU recently?

I just got an invite recently, but I cancelled my March 16th interview due to another acceptance. So hopefully someone who is waiting will be able to take my slot! Good luck everyone!

i got that "thank you from CMS" e-mail this morning and i forgot reading about this on SDN...scared the crap out of me. i half-expected to open it and see, "thanks for applying, but we just couldnt accept you." thank god its just an evaluation.

Got it too, and it scared me at first. lol.

Does anyone know when the admissions committee will meet again?

They are very secretive about it.... Probably early to mid-march. But all they said was once a month....

It seems that they usually announce decisions around the middle of the month, although the actual adcom meeting probably occurs earlier. (I got accepted on the 18th, but I noticed that the letter was dated the 9th.)

Last calendar year they sent some of us the schedule, but this year they never did, so sorry, can't help you out. Good luck to all of you!

Does anyone know if they have a second look visit?

has anyone received anything from the school since their acceptance? ie housing, orientation, etc?

I think they'll be meeting next Monday (or at least decisions will go out on that day). My reasoning: decisions went out on a Monday last month, and it was the 9th (just like next Monday).

On another note, I sent a serious update letter today...I hope it's enough to get me off that pesky hold.

Before February, in December, they usually met on Friday, emailed the acceptees on the Wednesday after, and the hold ppl a couple of days later. I guessed they switched the order, holds are sent out first then acceptees, which means it's good news if you don't hear anything next week, and not so good news if you do.

has anyone contact them recently. i tried to withdraw my app but they never emailed me back and i'm leaving the country ...

Try emailing them again? I haven't contacted since January

Bluesmd: I emailed them last thursday evening and I received their reply back on friday morning. May be you should email them back.

i emailed them three times and called and left a message on the special phone line. they only got back to me now. they are kinda slow. good luck to you guys

I received a financial aid email Feb 3rd. I was accepted in December, but that is all I have received other than the status notification (acceptance) and the "welcome to CMS" email.

good luck everyone, i think decisions come again next week. :luck::luck:
