They schedule 1 full hour 😛 Both of my interviews were one full hour and they were indicated as being such on my paperwork.

i just looked it up. my student interview was a half hour before lunch, but my faculty interview was alloted one hour. so you are right. i must be thinking of a different school. and i thought i was special!! lol

so by may 15th of next year, i have to withdraw from all but one of the schools that accepted me, right? but can i still remain on waitlists? do i need to also withdraw from schools where i'm waitlisted by may 15th? :😕:

yea you have to withdraw all acceptances but one by may 15, but you can be on all the waitlists you want

anybody interviewing on the 25th? i want to split the cost of staying in a hotel.... its expensive

Waitlist also. does anyone know if you can find out your position on the waitlist ? oneandonlylo, how the hell did you get waitlisted, your app is amazing.

Thanks btw, not gonna stress it. Gotta have the attitude that it's their loss. Still amused though.

Good luck to everyone else who's waiting for a decision or an interview!

There is a Holiday Inn in Stony Brook and I believe if you call them they have special rates for students interviewing for ~$75/night (at least that's what I was told during my interview). Otherwise, you can look into the Holiday Inn in Ronkonkama. I used travelocity and had hotel + car for 3 nights / 4 days @ $300 total. (Look for "coupon codes" online. You'll find them.)

:luck: GL w/ ur interview!

I kno this is a bit late for you but you can ask the admin office to check if students can host you for a night, instead of doing the holiday inn. most of us are pretty cool about hosting applicants and that way you get a better feel for the school.

about the waitlist...

a good number of people from my class and the first years were waitlisted, so i wouldnt sweat it too much if you get put on it. theres a lot of movement after that may 15 deadline, with some people hearing up to a few days before the white coat ceremony. as a side note, almost all of the waitlisted folks are doing just fine.

current stony msII, feel free to ask me any questions about school/living/interview, and good luck of course.

Does anyone know if Stony Brook offers student hosting for the night before the interview? Thanks 🙂

Yes, they do. Just mention it while you are scheduling your interview and she will find someone who is willing to host you. After that, just figure out the details with the student. 🙂

I e-mailed the person in charge of scheduling interviews, but she didn't answer my question about student hosts...I asked a few questions in one e-mail, so she probably just forgot about that particular one.
I'll write to her again, I guess. Thanks!

Def e-mail her again. I believe it mentioned it in the interview invite as well...either way. I e-mailed her a couple weeks after I scheduled my interview...no problem...got a student host the same day. Good luck.

How much does the interview factor in?...

Does anyone know if there is a pre-interview hold or do they just keep you hanging until rejection.. I have been complete since 9/10 and still no word while I have heard from the rest of the SUNYs.

any interview is a good sign, you basically have at least a 40 percent chance of getting in. A good way to think of it is that the job is yours to lose on interview day.

good luck!!!

got the express mail acceptance package! first one!!!!!!!!!!!! So HAPPPY. I dont care if i get more rejections. I will be a doctor!!!!!!

I know how you feel! The NuyoRicans are killing it. I'm so happy & proud of u and all of us that are actually doing something with themselves & breaking out of the cycle. Keep doing what you are doing & you will have many more packages in the mail! keep me posted.

Hey what you guys doing for thank you letters? Forwarding it via admissions or directly to the docs?

Big congrats! I interviewed the week before you. I hope I hear back soon.

At my interview, they told us specifically to email them to the admissions office and they will forward it to the doctors.

I know how you feel. Maybe we had the same interviewer and he was just tough on everyone?? Did you have a guy? I think they told us that the interview weights as much as the rest of your application. It's definitly not the most important thing they look at. They will review all of our files again completely with the interview feedbacks from the docs and decide from there.

my interviewer was kind of weird. He was filling in his questionnaire right in front of me and just asking me the questions straight from it "so tell me about any research... tell me about clinical experiences... tell me about your mcat" & he would then put it in the appropriate category on the yellow sheet... I was basicly just repeating my amcas application. And at certain points he would just sit back in his chair & look at the ceiling... weird

yo Qt i didnt know the Nuyoricans are killing it lol. I only knew of u but im happy that is so nonetheless. Im a fan of urs and i kno ur gona be gettin into some great schools.

For everyone who is still waiting, as far as the process goes its so arbitrary. We all know its a crapshoot. I feel like they take everyones applications and throw them in the air and where it lands is who they take.
Do not sit on it. Stop thinking about it all. If u wait on it it always comes back to bite u. I kno its hard but try to do something to take ur mind off this dumb process and go enjoy urself.

As far as my interviews there, they were ok not as bad as some others. I had a phd member Dr. Delihas who was very nice and genuinley interested me. He asked me a number of questions and it was so conversational .my 2nd interview was with a student who seemed combative and kinda grilled me. I thought id prolly be rejected at this school but u never know with this process. I have got flat out rejections where one of my interviews was silky smooth. Just cross ur fingers everyone and good luck.

Hi fuzzy, i think we interviewed with the same guy. i didn't think my interview went very well with him either but i ended up getting accepted anyway. so i believe it's just his interviewing style. you should be fine if you handled the situation well. keep your hopes up.
👍

Hey guys, is it a problem that I haven't heard anything from Stony Brook? I think my application was complete sometime towards the end of August/beginning of September (not sure exactly because they don't have a status update, I think I may have called them to confirm but I cannot remember as it was months ago). Also I am not a New York State resident and did not claim any state ties.

Did you get the email saying you were complete? you should have gotten one if you were.

Hey guys, just interviewed here today. Everyone was super nice and friendly, I thought the environment of the school was a huge plus. My only major concern, I guess, is the surrounding area and the relative lack of anything outside the hospital. Maybe if I get accepted and go back for second look in the spring, I'll feel differently, but those are just my immediate views on the matter.

Anyone else interview here today? Thoughts?

Yeah, it seems a bit slow there. I "hear" there are reasonably sized towns within about 15 mins. It's just hard to see behind all of the trees! In addition, NYC is about 1hr away by train. I was able to get to Ronkonkoma to Penn Station in ~1hr and I didn't even have to worry about driving.... just lean back in my chair and relax 😀

Hey all, I've been following this thread since the beginning. I just got my acceptance package from Stony Brook! I am incredibly excited. This is definitely my top choice. I wish the best of luck to all of you. I know you're going to be doctors, and I hope I see you in the fall.

Hi guys, i started an acceptance thread to Stony Brook Class of 2013 a while ago and forgot to post it here. I think its the only acceptance thread for this class. It can be accessed at:

http://more.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=583471

I was interviewed 11/14 and got acceptance package on 12/2. I really liked this school and as of right now it is my #1 choice.

Congrats to everyone else who got accepted and good luck to everyone else who wants to attend Stony Brook!

Thank you very much. I was interviewed on 10/30 and I got my acceptance on 12/2.

I'm going to graduate school right now and thought the letter would go to my preferred address, but they sent it to my permanent (home) address.

For those accepted already, what's in the acceptance package? What do we have to return within 2 weeks? I'm leaving the country around the time I'm suppose to hear back and I was going to give a check to my roommate who could mail it back IF I do get that package. I don't know if there's also a form I need to sign or how much I should write the check out to. Thanks for the info and CONGRATS!

Awesome! Hopefully I'll get lucky and hear something soon. I interviewed on 11/7. I'd be SO FREAKING STOKED if I got in!!!! Okay, okay... calming down... no need to get excited when I could totally get rejected.

I remember there were 3 items. 1st is the acceptance letter itself, 2nd is a technical standard form you have sign and return. 3rd is a letter saying that, if you haven't already, take biochem before med school starts or it's going to kick your butt.:laugh::laugh:

to hold a place you need to send a deposit of $100 and a written acceptance of their offer. (I just wrote 2 sentences: I am writing to accept your offer. Here's my deposit and the technical standard form blah blah...)

good luck!

There are two forms you have to sign and date. One is a US citizenship form and the other is a two sheet form (I forgot what was on it).

If you're going to leave a check with your roommate: make it out to SUNY Stony Brook (I'm pretty sure) for $100. Also, leave them a (signed) letter expressing your interest in accepting Stony Brook's offer.

You have 14 days to respond upon receiving the acceptance package. Good luck and have a great trip. I hope you return to good news.

OHHH.... and you also have to send them a photocopy of your passport OR your birth certificate (or some equivalent) to prove your citizenship.
