Ok guys...I got the rejection email so there is no med school for me this year or ever...

Come on, you're stronger than that! Becoming and being a doctor takes massive (probably foolishly large) amounts of perseverance, and downright stubbornness. Don't let the bad cards get you down, use those emotions to fuel your motivation. You have to say this to yourself:

"I'm not gonna let this little blip stop me from achieving my dreams. Hell no! I'm gonna use this as an opportunity to make my application even better! And I'm gonna reapply to this school, and I'm gonna apply to a lot more schools than I did this time around also. I'll show them! I'm gonna make my app so much better now, that next year RF is gonna be begging me to come to their school, and I'm gonna have to decide if *I* want to chose *them* out of all the many different schools that will also be offering me acceptances next year. Sure, I would've liked to have gotten in this year, but now I'm so fired up to really rock my app experiences, stats, and writings, that next year I'm gonna have my pick of schools. This little set back is actually a good thing because now I'm gonna come into med school with even more experiences that'll ultimately mean I'm gonna be an even better doctor down the road. Nothing can gonna stop me, I'm definitely gonna become a doctor - and I'm gonna be a great one."

=( Maiden, I'm really sorry to hear about the news, I'm surprised, because you seem like you've got so much liveliness and spirit, which is absolutely essential in medicine. Keep your chin up. I don't know if this was your first app cycle....I hope it was....but stick it out and get back up on that horse. I'm rootin' for ya, and I know a lot of other people on this forum are too, you've been kinda the leader for a lot of people through the long waiting period, as odd as that may sound on a forum, but still, you know what I mean.

A year off is a small amount of time in the grand scheme of life....hey, they say our generation will grow to be 100 anyways! So in the meantime, pick up some kind of clinical research position, stay around docs, or even apply for Americorps, they've got a lot of great programs. I applied to a bunch of stuff as a just in case plan, and g-d knows it's never too late, there are plenty of people who want a well qualified person such as yourself on a solid team while you pull it all together and come back next year 50x as qualified as you are now, which says a lot! Never give up, you're too young, =)

1st Acceptance!!! The title of the email almost gave me a heart attack (Status Notification from...). But it is a pleasant surprise after almost a year of this ridiculousness. Getting this one is like being drowned for a year and breathing in for this first time.

For those who got in (anywhere), congrats. For those who did not, don't give up. Med school application is by far the most random and agonizing process I've been through (2 timer). There are so many factors that go into the selection process. But if you persevere and have a good heart, someone will eventually see the doctor in you and let you in.

Hey Guys,
For those of you wondering (esp. Chisox), here is exactly what my email said. I wonder why I am the only one that got this on here and everybody else got hold. I'm guessing that's bad news for me. 2.5 hour long-distance marriage for four years here I come :'(.

Dear Applicant,

The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application favorably for admission to The Chicago Medical School. Your application has been placed on a non-rank ordered wait list. As positions become available in the entering class of 2010, your application will be re-evaluated by the committee for admission.

You will be notified via email if your status changes. Please be aware that applicants on the wait list may receive notice of status changes through the first day of orientation, which is August 10th.

Please notify the Admissions Office if you wish to remove your application from consideration. Thank you for your patience throughout this admissions process.

Sincerely,

The CMS Admissions Office

Ok guys...I got the rejection email so there is no med school for me this year or ever...I don't know. I am very excited for those of you who got accepted or who are on hold or waitlisted - pls make the best of this awesome opportunity. What can I say? It's been fun talking with you guys. God bless!

Sorry to hear about that.. and i want to wish the same for those who got accepted to make the best of this opportunity. i was put on hold again, and i have been on hold for a while. it seems like that they have accepted most of the applicants that were on hold, and i would assume that much of the class is filled. 🙁

God bless as well!

actually, it seems like good news for you.

you know when you open your email and read "regrets to inform in the first line" that you just got a rejection letter 🙁

not exactly sure what went wrong.. but that's just how it goes, no use in getting up set over it.

I wish everyone the best of luck... more luck than I had.

sorry to hear fnsweet... im hoping that you and maiden, and myself eventually get into med school... God willing, we will!

i also didnt get the waitlist letter but the same hold email that comes.... dont know when the committee might meet next...

mine said hold too.... that would be really interesting if people were in fact waitlisted on this round, though, so are we sure that that really happened or did they just mean hold?

Applying to medical school is seriously just way too much fun

So your email said waitlisted? Cause I had one that said hold. And i'm not really sure what that means. Seems like they're accepting, holding, waitlisting and rejecting? What's the point of a hold why not just waitlist.

What do you think a hold email means at this point?

i dont understand what it means to be on hold either at this point...

maiden and fnsweet.... sorry to hear about the rejections... i hope you guys do get in someplace..... sweetness34, i dont know what it means to be on hold at this point, but i guess they still havent accepted or rejected you yet.... as for the waitlist, someone told me that about 10% of the people actually get in.......

as for myself, i got accepted from a waitlist to a different school which is giving me a good scholarship as well! bye bye RFU........

hey, i appreciate it....

i hope in some way this can be good be good news for both of us... (whatever that could possibly be)

maybe getting a waitlist right now meant that the classes were full, and that they put you on that list... according to your email post, it read that the committee thought favorably to your application.

i think much of the class is filled. i know that much of the BMS students were accepted to the school in this latest decision.

with the hold email, getting a hold email doesn't make much sense at this stage of the process.... it should have been acceptance, rejection, or waitlist.... even with the waitlist, about 10% get accepted.

i dont think that i would have good chances now at RFU... if they already even gave out waitlist for some students, that must mean that the class if already filled up... like i mentioned earlier, only 10% get accepted from the waitlist 🙁

since the waitlist is unranked, i'd start sending in those update/suck up letters stat!

i dont think that updates will help...... they seem to already have an idea of whom to accept or reject.... instead of being on hold, i would really take the final decision of an acceptance or a rejection about now.. i have been on hold since November, and even being rejected right now is better than a week or month before classes start.

I got the same waitlist email. So i have been trying to decide if it is a good thing or a bad thing. Seem like a lot of people got accepted or put on hold and only a few of us were actually put on the waitlist.... so does that mean that we might me top of the list as far as the waitlist is concerned?? I hope so!

an unranked waitlist means that when a spot opens up they review everyone and pick. so they don't necessarily have an idea of who to accept or reject (or they would have already done one or the other probably). Sending an update letter might just be that little push that gets you accepted off the list. It's not like it's going to hurt your chances, so why not send one in just in case?

as for your particular situation, you're going to have to pick a date by which you want your decision and then pull yourself off the waitlist if it's no longer worth it to you. there are people on here who would obviously kill to get in even if it was the day before classes...

Do you think they are going to go to the Hold people before the wait list or vice versa?

i don't think the holds are compared to the waitlisted. I would have to imagine that it means that they did not get to our name in the meeting or something along those lines.

For now, we just need to be proud of being on the Hold All-Star team for a game where everybody just sits on the bench until the bottom of ninth.

thats a nice way to look at it...

the strange thing was that someone from the admissions said that they havent even created the waitlist yet!

and i could see that some people have already received the email for a waitlist.

i think the way the waitlist works, is that their applications was favored but the class is filled right now, it seems that they would go to the waitlist people first....

the thing is that im not even on the waitlist... i just got a hold email...
i would think that the hold is different from the waitlist.... good luck in medical school by the way...

or maybe it could be that the waitlist email, could be similar to their small pool type email.... i think that they will have an official waitlist within a week or two.... hopefully as people may withdraw, it opens more spots for us!!

i'm surprised none of you have called to ask...

i'm surprised none of you have called to ask...

actually red, i called and they told me that the waitlist haven't been created yet... but some SDNers have received the waitlist email..... furthermore, if you ask them when will the waitlist be created they just say that all that information is confidential..

nice to hear that you got accepted to SIU... i think that is the most affordable school in IL and it is pretty good school as well... would love to have gone there myself!

also, the admissions office cannot give too much information out like i said earlier because many of the information is confidential.. they just said that any status changes will come via letter...

i think earlier when most people did withdraw, most of the spots probably went to those on the BMS program at RFU.....

anyways, good luck my friends!

Can anyone tell me how good the iPhone / AT&T telephone service and data service is on campus and in the surrounding area?

2 questions.

Does tuition for RFU teeter around 64,000 for all 4 years, or does it jolt up in the M2-4 years, like some due (because of the 9-->12 month change)?

Also, if you had the choice between RFU and UIC-Chicago, what might you lean towards? I feel bad even asking, because I'm just so grateful to have gotten into both, but almost selfish in asking this. It's just a really tough decision, and I could use any advice I can get.....thanks guys

besides being cheaper, if you say "I'm going to U of I med school" people will at least have some name recognition. If you say"I'm going to Rosalind Franklin med school" people usually have no idea what/where that is. Even doctors I know in IL were like "huh? where's that?"
that may or may not be a big deal to you, but it was definitely a factor in my decision to go elsewhere

Some indoor parts of the campus don't have cellphone access, but you can use the school wifi there. Elsewhere, you get 3G with 5 bars, with about the same dropped call frequency as the rest of Chicago.

new guy....

anyone slightly thrown off with the fact that there have been acceptances, rejections and waitlists and still people being put on hold? Anyone gotten a chance to call the office?

As for the CMS v UIC battle: if are an Illinois resident, it's a no-brainer - UIC for monetary reasons. If you are OOS, it's kind of a toss-up in my mind. regarding name recognition, doctors in the chicago area (and to some extent, cali), while they might not recognize "rosalind franklin university" (had that name for only a few years), generally know about "chicago medical school" (about 100 years history).

So true! I work in an ER in northern CA and told most of the doctors I was close to that I was accepted to RFU. They generally hadn't heard of it before, but later on when I referred to it as "chicago med", many of them said, "Oh, I didn't know you got in there? I knew a guy..." yada yada. Many people have no idea it's the same place.

u of i does have a nice match list... u of i was my top choice.... i think rfu is alright, but if i had a choice, i would def pick u of i

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but is anyone looking for a roommate for next year? I'm hoping to get a 2br apartment at the Woodlands. If anyone's interested, feel free to message me.

are you in IL resident?? if yea and accepted to UIC, then i would recommend uic...

Tiptoe,

I did call the office. They said being on hold means you will be re-reviewed at the next meeting and does not mean waitlist. I am thinking that means that we will be reviewed when these last acceptances make decesions and then they will decide to reject/ waitlist/ or accept. They didn't say if they would be reviewing the waitlist at the next meeting but I would assume they are going to look at the hold people one more time and then after that go to the waitlist.

This is all speculation.

thanks for some of your guys' feedback here. I must say, being an RFU forum, I'm really surprised to not read that 1 person recommends RFU, heh. Still a tough choice, I honestly absolutely loved RFU's campus, and just the overall feel of being there.....tough, tough

But just a heads up, IS or OOS isn't a factor for me, at least nothing monetarily. Schools are deceptive, or at least UIC is. Yes, their first year is about $56K, but M2 and beyond are ridiculously $72 or 73K ish......ends up breaking even between these two, RFU goes up a bit, but then gets cheaper....weird

Thank you Doc of Life, EvaSwitchBox20, Chisox 2010, red10, Hopeful M D and all other well-wishers on this forum for all the encouragement. Again, I traveled for the Memorial day wknd and had sketchy internet service so I was not able to respond immediately. Anyways, I have decided to reapply this year and make my application better. I hope to submit my AMCAS by the end of this week. This has been a great learning experience for me even though it did not turn out the way I would have liked. Again, thank you for your kind and encouraging comments...and may all of you do amazingly well in medical school and your future specialties and sub-specialties. Blessings!

Someone wanna help me out on this one? I'm not sure how to evaluate residency matches, but at first glance, it looks like UIC-Chicago and RFU are about even, they each up each other in different, highly-desired fields and institutions (Mayo, Johns Hopkins, etc)

http://www.rosalindfranklin.edu/dnn/portals/18/documents/admissions/2009MR.pdf

http://www.uic.edu/depts/mcam/osa/careers/MatchData/2010MatchResultsbySpecialty.htm

They also both have upper 90% of their students getting into their top 1,2,3 choices, and score above the national avg on USMLE........so what the heck's the diff?

good luck to you maiden!!

anyone else on hold here? it seems like there were a couple people on the waitlist.

good luck to whatever school you end up choosing evaswitchbox.

good luck to you tiptoe... i wonder how many more people are on hold...

maybe we might hear something in a couple of weeks...

for those on hold, when did you interview??
