last year, i think someone said that about a good number of students got into the medical school after doing the program.

I've been reading this thread for such a long time now. sweetness34 you write so much on this thread and in a matter of 2 minutes apart. Why not submit at once or edit. 😕

Also you're really pushing for the BMS program, are you applying as well or do you want everyone on the waitlist/hold to do it?

i wouldn't concern yourself with this, its an outlet for people wanting to share whats on their mind concerning the process, and if it so happens that its several times a day and close together, its the same as a long post. If you don't like it, don't read it.

Look I know it's a place to express the process. But there is a difference of expressing the process and writing what your feel every minute. Twitter comes to mind.

Chisox2010, don't tell me what to concern myself with. If you don't like a suggestion that wasn't directed towards you, don't read it.

swat, be nice, dude. you've had two posts, and both were negative. This is has been a very supportive thread for those in this process and I think we all just want it to stay that way. Let's move on and just put this under the "we're all under way too much stress so it happens" column

and dont worry too much about the posts or the timing of the posts. 🙂

Accepted this morning by email, thought I'd give the update since I've been using this sight to monitor such things but rarely participated. It's my first acceptance on my second year applying. Good luck everyone else, don't give up.

Were you on hold or were you on the waitlist?

The people who are on hold are SOL...oh well, Ross here i come

So you must be placed on the waitlist before you can get accepted? did anyone get accepted straight from being on hold? I read through the posts and it seems like one person was rejected post-interview (sorry) but I guess there are still a lot of people on hold or waitlisted. I don't know, I just feel like there's going to be a lot of movement in the remaining summer. Am I too optimistic? I haven't made plans for the upcoming year yet.

EDIT: I'm on hold by the way, haha.

The ancient greeks thought hope was evil...Thats what i think too. When pandora opened the box, all the evils of the world came out, and so did hope. So hope is an evil thing! Make your plans bro...no point in waiting around forever...you gotta start your life

holds came out of pandora's box. Lots of them.

I'm just going to ignore what you guys have just wrote. Instead, I will be spending the next couple hours charting the days AND the time of day when people received their acceptance notices. So that I can look forward to it, I guess? You're probably right, router, in that you need to make plans in case things don't work out but I just cannot face the prospect of applying again. It'll be my third time and I get anxious thinking about it.

Ok, so just to clarify, there are two categories: a "non-rank ordered wait list" and the hold status. Because it's non-ranked, everyone on the waitlist has to be re-evaluated before someone is accepted. And probably at the same committee meeting, they go through some applications on hold and put some on the waitlist. What is a committee meeting anyway? Has anyone seen the house bunny and there's a part where the sorority girls pick new girls for the term? I have that image in mind when I think of a committee meeting but of course with older people in suits. How often are these committee meetings held? There was an acceptance today morning (congratulations) and the previous notices (for holds/waitlists) were sent out on the 9th. Do you think it's reasonable to assume that the committee meetings are held every week or so? Or do you think they have separate meetings to discuss who get to go on the waitlist and whom they will accept?

congratulations!
now, as for the rest of us, let's try to get on this waitlist.

It is hard to tell when the committee meets and when you are expected to get an email from the office. In the past they have told people in the in the morning and afternoon. i got my email in the morning. also, i heard that it was new this year for people to be on the hold list at this late in the cycle. i think the committee meets according to how many spots are open. if there is alot of opening, im sure the committee will meet at least a couple of times. otherwise, it i think they meet once a month. this year it seems that most of their positions are filled. about 50 seats seem to have gone to the BMS students, and there doesn't seem to be much movement. anyways, good luck to you all, and hope you get in here or somewhere.

congratulations!
now, as for the rest of us, let's try to get on this waitlist.

thanks! i would just hope to get accepted somehow. as for the waitlist, someone mentioned that about 15% of waitlisted applicants get accepted. actually, i wonder if some of the other people on this thread that were waitlisted have been accepted to the school or not. good luck to you!

why does the hold category exist right now...

it may not be a good thing to be on hold right now, but i hope i could be wrong. i personally never understood why they have a hold category at this late in the cycle. i would rather give a waitlist to applicants rather than a hold.

I'm in off the waitlist this morning as well!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that means that for the people on hold, they have not decided yet whether it will be a rejection or a waitlist spot, rather than waitlist vs. acceptance.
Bummer for you guys, I am so sorry.
If it makes you feel any better, there is a chance I will turn down the offer. Before I was so stressed about the situation with my fiance living in Chicago and me going to UW Madison, but of course now that we have racked our brains figuring out a way for him to move to Madison (he has a great prospective job opportunity there now) is when I get accepted to Chicago......great timing. Haha
The two of us are going to have to sit down and have a LONG talk about which place, Madison or Chicago, we would rather live for the next four years.
If I turn down my spot here, I really sincerely hope that one of you fine individuals gets it. I know how stressful this process is and I genuinely feel for all of you. Good luck and I will let you know my decision in the next few days.

congrats to all those acceptances. it seems to get that waitlist earlier meant somebody very good for now. being june 17th, i would think that is one of the few times that Rosalind Franklin gave out alot of acceptances this late in the cycle.

i dont think that those of us on hold will get an acceptance email right away. it seems like they are going through their waitlist to see who gets in.

i wonder why they still have a hold. maybe it is their way of not making the hold people feel bad by getting rejected right away.

it was nice knowing you all and for those on hold, good luck getting into med school.. hopefully we will get in someday.

im waiting for one more med school. i might withdraw pretty soon depending on how it goes. for those on hold, good luck guys. i hope rosalind franklin can somehow squeeze you guys in.

Just curious was there anything that they had you do for the criminal background check besides just filling out your information on line. And I am applying for housing today and they said I would be put on a wait list... has anyone out there got a place from off the wait list or should I be looking for a different place to live?

Well, everybody.....in the choice between UW Madison and CMS, I finally chose to accept a spot at (drumroll please)....
CMS! My fiance and I decided that it was a better fit for us and for our future together. He is going to be working full time this year, and apply for podiatry school there for the next school year. All of my friends/family think I have gone absolutely insane for choosing a not-as-well-regarded-way-more-expensive-school over the #12 ranked school that only would cost me 20,000/year, but I am very happy with my decision and refuse to have a long distance marriage. 🙂
With that said, in addition to logistical reasons, there was something about the atmosphere at CMS that I appreciated more than that of Madison. I can't quite pinpoint it, but I think it has something to do with the people. At CMS, it genuinely seemed like the students and staff really loved what they were doing. At Madison, some people seemed a bit cocky/condescnending/stickuptheirbuttish (although don't get me wrong they were still friendly). So, hold/waitlist friends, I am sorry to tell you that you won't be getting my spot, but I AM going to be crossing my fingers that you get accepted so we can be classmates!!! Let me know how it turns out, and I hope to see you in August!

PS. Hey Sweetness,
I just read your post about saying you don't think you have a chance because everyone on here that got accepted was interviewed before November. Just wanted to let you know that I was interviewed April 6th (or something like that in early April) and I still got accepted so don't lose hope.

nice to hear that you will be going to RFU ktko! i know most people have gotten accepted at different times during the year, but i felt kind of bad that i interviewed that early and still wasnt able to get a decision. anyways, hopefully something good happens before class starts.

good luck at RFU, and i hope we could be future classmates. 🙂

it seems like there campus housing might be full. i would consider living in a place called the woodlands which is next to the school. alot of student from RFU reside over there as well.

don't lose hope those still on waitlist..I know that last year there were quite a few people that were pulled from the waitlists the week of orientation in August..I know its terrible to wait that long..but I guess last minute people get in other places and drop out and spots open up

Draining indeed.

Yeah, waitlist movement seems to continue until the beginning of school but at one point people should start making other plans. I don't know if we're past that point though! lol.

I was just actually just thinking that it's probably better for everyone if they give up on CMS and start making plans for this year (and maybe get the application process going or write the MCAT??). Some will get in but some won't and I wouldn't want to be that person. no acceptance, no job, no plan, AND late application.

i dont know if there still are people on the waitlist. almost everyone else that is not accepted or rejected is on hold. i dont know what are chances are at this point.

It really is...I hope we get in! i am really not looking forward to ross

i just worry that the class might be full at this point.. at what scared me more was that we didnt make the waitlist earlier.

As I understand it, by around may 15th every school will have accepted at least enough people to fill up the entire class, but then as people drop multiple acceptances that they're holding it starts a ripple process that trickles down to all schools as people drop their current acceptance in favor of a new offer that comes in from a school higher on their list of favorites. Supposedly this musical chairs of class seats opening up continues all the way up until a couple of days before orientation.

Yeah, definitely. And what's good for us still waiting is that CMS is usually at the bottom of this chain for most people. The class is most definitely full at this point but the movement will continue!! I've checked out the CMS facebook page and it's striking how few members there are. There is another school facebook page I've been following and about 90% of the class has joined already (I've already taken into account the upper-year med students joining the fb page). It suggests that a lot of people are still undecided (which is actually a bit of a tragedy since there are US who will definitely attend the school fo sho).

But I definitely agree with sweetness34 in that it's not a great thing that we're not on the waitlist. Probably not that high on the list.

I am still on the waitlist.

I usually don't like to post anything other than facts, because speculation is kind of useless, but I do have some thoughts that I think worth sharing. First, I have a doctor-friend who is colleagues with some RFU people. He told me that the dean of the school recently resigned (which I think many of you are already aware of). While this will not effect the school in general, he does believe it is slowing down their application/acceptance process given the timing of the resignation.

Second, I think there is a chance you will see some people moved to the waitlist soon. In late May, two weeks after the May 15 deadline, a bunch of people were accepted/rejected, some were placed on hold again (me and you guys) and some were waitlisted (e.g. ktko and jimbo john). Then two weeks later, I was waitlisted and some people were placed on hold again, but it seems nobody was accepted/rejected. Then about a week later, ktko, jimbo john and a few others on the waitlist were accepted, but no other status changes were made. We may be ripe for another round of moving people to the waitlist with no acceptances/rejections.

Finally, I do agree with everyone else that this is musical chairs. While I can't explain the purpose of a hold list if the waitlist is unranked, I do believe that RFU knows the purpose and it's not arbitrary. Personally, I believe the hold list and waitlist combined consist of a specific number of students above the number of accepted students that historically withdraw between May 15 and the start of school. So, e.g., if that number is historically 40, then the hold/waitlist may contain 60 people. This may seem obvious, but it should make us all realize that the hold list is not simply a torture chamber, but actually contains students who may be accepted in the next month or two as things shake out.

Just my thoughts.
