i think the next decisions will either be after may 15th or near the end of the month.
i think by May 15th, if a student gets multiple acceptances they have to choose one school by then.

im not sure as to how many of the BMS students have gotten accepted, but hopefully as more spots open, i guess some applicants will go on from hold to acceptance 🙂. and if you may get rejected, hopefully youll get in some place!!

Yep, I agree with you and I'm going to keep hoping. We should give you an award for the most encouraging member of this forum. You have stuck it through with us even though you got accepted here a while back. I hope to see you in class this fall, God willing!

as may 15th is around the corner, i thought that RFU was ok, but I like the program more at some of the other schools. hope someone on hold gets this spot! good luck!

I've heard of only a handful that got accepted. The cut off for the first round was getting an A in physiology.

Thanks for the info Mattng. Do you expect much movement around May 15th? Would many spots open up?
 
Anyone know RFUs policy on holding an acceptance past may 15th?

Do you mean in terms of being waitlisted at another school and then releasing your place at RFU when accepted to that school after May 15th?
If no, what do you mean?

I think for any of the medical schools, your supposed to choose only one school by May 15 if you have multiple acceptances. I think this is what the AAMC requires of all applicants.

From what someone told me, about 30-40 students from the BMS program matriculate to the medical school. Usually that is what the number is like per year.
 
Interviewed last week, haven't heard back yet, hopefully soon! Good luck to everyone!

I wish there was something one could to do increase their chance of being accepted post-interview :idea:

So I'm assuming most everyone here has already been accepted?

Hi there! I had my interview on early Feb and got accepted April 30.
This is my first time writing on this forum because I thought I would let you guys know something about this.
On the day of my interview Dean Ross (the Dean of CMS) came by to say hello and meet everyone (he had everyone introduce themselves, apparently he pops up occasionally during the interview season). Anyway, there was a girl there from California, and he was saying how there used to be A LOT of students from CA coming to this school, because it's so hard to get into a school in CA. He was saying how sad it was that most CA students would go through the medical school, do really well, the clinics loved them, they might stay to do residency in IL, but afterwards they would go back to CA. So a few years ago, they kind of changed their policies a little bit, so that if there are two students with similar stats, one from IL and the other from CA they will pick the one from IL, even though they are a private institution and not a state school. And this is just for Californian students, not any other states. Just thought you guys would like to hear this.

weird. When I was there for my interview back in October-ish they said that Ca students account for the second largest group of students (IL being first) and that they were okay with that. But that wasn't coming from Ross, it was from my interviewer and the student leader.

They don't really show preference in my experience.

I came in to post that they sent me a survey basically asking why I chose a different school than theirs. I thought that was pretty cool.

Nope, not everyone here has been accepted. At least, I haven't yet...but we are very hopeful. Just send them updates, letter of interest, letter of recommendation, activities, research, etc. And pray.

I believe the school has a lot of movement after May 15. I'm sure you know already that it is the day where students holding multiple acceptances must relinquish all of them except one. I know of many people last year that got accepted in the summer, even one right up to the week before orientation. If you're on hold, there is still definitely hope. Just check your email and send in your grades after this spring semester is over.

I thought that RFU does not accept any such updates?

I didn't mean it as extreme as it sounds, and neither did Dean Ross I think, I apologize for the confusion. From what I heard from some friends at RFU is that a large portion of the students are from IL, then a large chunk from CA, and then the rest is made of students all over, and this is just because of the number of people applying, not because of admission's preferences. But from what I said before, Dean Ross mentioned that between an Illinois applicant and CA applicant who have similar stats, they would take the IL applicant. Both my interviewers also asked if I intended to stay in IL after medical school or residency, they just would like to keep their graduating MDs in the Midwest.

I'm not 100% sure about this, and this is based on my own intuition, but I'm almost certain that, for those of us who are waiting, there won't be a decision until end of May (28 or 31)...

Of course that would be great if it's sooner, but I don't want anyone like me to die from anticipation during the next 3 weeks 😀 --I don't know about anyone else, but my mailbox has been in my dreams for a while now 😉

I agree with you. The committee may wait until after May 15th to assess how many spots they have left so that they can accept enough applicants to fill those spots before the waitlist is created. Like you, this is just my hunch...of course they may do differently.

But you cannot allow yourself to die from anticipation if you want to make it well in med school so pls don't let it bother you so much. We've all waited so far...an extra 3 weeks would not kill us.

My interviewer pretty much said the same thing. They are really looking to increase the number of IL residents accepted. He said CA admission is big still but is down to 30% from 50%. They may want to decrease it further.

Thanks Mattng. I have no more grades (not in school) and no more updates to send. I only got prayers.

for me though I thought I was done for after I got rejected from my state school, then out of no where RFU invited me for an interview... and that was 2 weeks ago, so that's why it's more fresh for me... but you're right, no reason to be bothered by it 😀
 
im on a post interview hold for a couple of months. and yes i have been praying as well for an acceptance!

wow what does post-interview hold mean? Do they email you and say that they aren't ready to make a decision? or is it like a wait-list?

post-interview hold means that they have interviewed the student but are still deciding on whether to accept or reject the student. most of the students that say they are on hold would be in this category.

i think the wait list will probably be made in the beginning of summer for RFU. it is real tough to say how many people could get accepted here. someone mentioned that about 10% of people get accepted from the waiting list.🙁

i guess if most people withdraw, it could increase the chance for people on hold.
