Did any one of you receive a letter from Washu Committe on Admission asking you to apply because of your good MCAT score? My kid got one yesterday. They congratulated her on her strong showing on the MCAT. Based on her terrific performance, invited her to apply for admissions. Is it norm for some med schools to send letters like this just like in undergrad colleges send letters to kids with good SAT scores? We were surprised and excited. 🙂

Yeah, some schools do this. It doesn't mean much beyond that she did well though. If she is interested in WashU, she should apply there. If not, she shouldn't. There's still way more to the process than the MCAT and this letter is by no means hinting that she'd be accepted for sure. But she obviously has a chance if she did that well on the MCAT.

i think there might have been an option when registering for the mcat that, if selected, allowed AMCAS to release your score to medical schools for recruiting purposes.

Any ideas for a fun, cheap way to spend two hours and see some of St Louis between my interview and flight on Tues? Recommend any art museums or anything within walking distance from the med school or metrolink stop?

I live in St. Louis, and this week, the trees are absolutely gorgeous. If you're not from a place that has four seasons, you're coming at a great time to see the fall. Forest Park is just West of the Med School, and in Forest Park there's an Art Museum and a free zoo. Forest Park is pretty big, so it's a pretty long walk to the Art Museum. If you want to get closer to the Art Museum, take Shrewsbury metro west to the Skinker Station.

I hope the weather is agreeable for you Tuesday. Recently, it's either been pretty dreary with rain or completely gorgeous, fall weather.

Any one going to the interview tomorrow?

Hey I was at the interview today! Must have saw you there.

how long does it usually take to receive the Dean's Certification and be posted in the application status page? I faxed out my forms to the respective schools to have them completed/submitted by the dean or someone comparable three or so weeks ago at least and my application status does not have them as being received. Should I resend out these Deans's Certifications?

Does WashU have a multicultural affairs office? If so, please post a website link...I can't find their page.
Thanks! 🙂

when do we expect to hear from WashU? I thought they should start giving out acceptances by Nov.1, at least according to MSAR....

You faxed them? Geez, I sent mine by snail mail with a handy-dandy addressed & stamped envelope.

They said mid-November would be the first set of acceptances, so um... maybe sometime this month, if we get in early.

Yep, and if I'm remembering correctly, they said that this first set of acceptances is very small

Hey, I think I know who you are. I was at the interview on the same day as you!
Yeaaa, I remember you too. The international student. You are a beast if you are interviewing at top institutes and not a US citizen, congrats man.

^ YAY!!!!! IM NOT US CITIZEN EITHER 😀

IM DA BEAST

naw im not sigh.

Hahah, nah man, I'm not.
I have many schools that are currently ignoring me.....haven't heard a word from them since like ..... ago LOL.
Good luck in your upcoming interviews man.

I would just like to say that I received a letter. It basically said that I'm a female with strong MCAT performance, and that they have great opportunities for females in science/medicine and that I should apply. That's the reason I applied.

I wasn't going to apply otherwise because a former member of their MD PhD committee told me that they usually do not accept people who are not from the midwest because they assume east and west coasters would not pick them over the many other great med schools on either coast.

However, I was in fact granted an interview much to my surprise. Basically the letter may mean something, but it may just be a coincidence that I got that letter and was granted an interview.

wow!! what a great school! lots of lecture time though.

does anyone know the average washu score for step 1?

Yeah I interviewed here as well-seems like an amazing place with obviously superb opportunities, academics, research, and training...But the in class time seems like a lot :/. Not sure how I feel about it.

I do have to say though that initially I was freaked out about Northwestern's PBL, and now I'm kind of getting into it since I know that I am a really independent learner. I suppose both styles have their ups and downs.

They told us 239 for USMLE Step I during the orientation. They also said "Highest in, highest out"

from what I understand, vandy is top 3, but i'm not sure what their score is...don't really know where wustl ranks :/

I got an interview! However, my situation is sort of cheap, because my mom did her residency there and my dad did post-doctoral work there 👎

I think with my 3.65 (biomedical eng.) and 35 I would not have otherwise received an interview, although I have a first author publication that probably helped. I'm kind of shocked, to be honest, because I applied to Wash U mostly just to try my luck.

So, uh, I interview next Monday (16th, I think) and the Colts-Patriots game is on at night.

1. Does anyone else want to watch it with me? lol

2. How bad would it be if I missed the Pizza party?

3. Do rooms in Olin Hall have televisions?

Thanks!

No, but one of the floors has a lounge with a TV. I would guess that there will probably be a few med students who will grab some pizza and watch the game, so you'll probably have some company

thanks-they didn't mention this on my interview day but its good to know

It is and it isn't. I gather the score is a pretty personal thing. WashU's students are there because they are excellent test takers and students; they'd likely get the same scores wherever they went. The faculty and other opportunities for student research/service etc. at WashU are what makes the school great IMO.

As a matter of interest, I recently learned the GPA and MCAT ranges for this year's MS1 class:

GPA: 3.21-4.0
MCAT: 29-43

just got an acceptance call (I think). My phone reception was so bad that I could barely hear anything. All I could make out among the static was "saint louis" "medicine" and "congratulations".

Is there an update on your status page or does it stay the same?
