I am confused about question #1: "At Rosalind Franklin University, we celebrate and support a Life in Discovery. Briefly describe what a Life in Discovery means to you."

Do I just restate the 4 pillars (research, education, clinical practise, community involvement) in my own words, mention some of my similar ECs and write a coherent answer?

or

Do I need to come with a unique definition of "life in discovery" myself? since, the question is asking "what it means to you"...

😕 :scared:+pissed+:beat::diebanana:

Based on my understanding of the question, I came up with my own definition and described it and talked about how my own experiences tie into it. I didn't mention the 4 pillars

+1. I talked about my experiences and how I have led a life of discovery. I'd just write it however you can write the strongest essay.

Does anyone know what to do if you sent in your application with your photo and check, but the check was sent back for some reason? I do not know if I am complete and was unsure how was the best way to give them the check...

Call them? Who's your check made out to, was it signed? I think if all the obvious things are right, you'll just need to talk to them.

Did they send you a notification email today? If so, that means I'll have to start checking my status everywhere on weekends too. 🙂 lol

It was 5:30 on Friday. so, looks like you're in the clear w/ the weekend checking 🙂

I emailed them about my status and this what they said,

"You are in the process of screening. This is a process that can take some time. As soon as this process is complete, our office will send you a confirmation email.

Sincerely,

CMS Admissions Office"

So its not a no I guess

i'm still stuck in the primary screening phase. does anyone know how RF feels about getting extra emails at this point?

Could anyone volunteer to proofread my second essay for the secondary? Thanks and sorry for bothering.

I'm stuck there too. And I wish it would go faster. However, in the email, they deliberately say that it may be the longest part of the process. So, my guess is to only email if it has been really long. Like 6 weeks or something. It's still too early to risk shooting yourself in the foot.

Do you mean pre-small pool? If so just hang in there, I'm sure they have a lot to read!

Stayed 20 days in primary screening and got small-pooled today. Crossing fingers for interview..

Is it safe to assume that everyone who will eventually get interviews was small-pooled at one point?

They just sent me my complete email today after I mailed it in on Monday. Pretty efficient for snail-mail submission I think.

I got small pooled today as well...

International OOS, 3.83, 31S.

do they email or do we check status online?? or do they send snail mail??

Just to double-check, they want us to write our name and AMCAS ID on the upper LEFT corner of the check, not the memo line? I guess if they're doing some fancy electronic withdrawal it doesn't matter, but it makes me wonder why they don't just let you pay online.

Your name should already be in the upper left hand corner, unless someone else is fronting the bill. Whenever you pay bills you should list your account number/ID number on the top of check, just in case it get separated from your notice/application. That's my guess as to why they ask for that info. I'm sure they've had checks sitting there in the past and they had no idea who they belonged to, assuming someone else wrote the check (so the name couldn't be used as a reference).

I understand that part, I just thought it was strange that they wanted the AMCAS ID at the top left rather than the bottom left, on the memo line. Whatever, I'm not going to argue with the people making the admission decisions 😎

Don't those numbers usually get listed on the lower right hand corner (memo line), not the top left?

I never list them in the memo line. The memo line is usually considered for your reference (i.e., Electric, Cable, Rent for Unit X, etc.), this allows you to categorize your checks. Information regarding you and your account typically should be listed along the top of the check.

But it could be a personal preference thing. As long as the info is there and clearly visible it usually won't matter.

I would've put it on the memo line but their directions said upper left corner. As long as it was there though, I'm sure it doesn't matter where you put it.

Haha, call me a dork, but it's interesting to see how different people have different styles of check-writing.

I was taught that one needs to write the "account number" (for bills, as an example) on the memo line--that's where I've been instructed. The memo line is like a "memo" to the recipient of the check.

Hmm, I don't remember what I did with RFU...I'll check later when I have access to my online checking account.

In the end though, it doesn't matter lol.

Agreed.

On another note, I am currently a student at CMS (starting M2 classes this coming Monday). If any of you have any questions, I will do my best to help. And sorry that I've been absent on the thread up to this point. I completely forgot that another application cycle had rolled around already - frankly, I don't know how the admissions department does this every year...

i wrote my AMCAS ID in the lower left hand corner, for anyone that is wondering!

Haha. That should be the new interview invite question. It's no longer about what their stats are, but rather where they wrote their ID number! 😛

Everyone is talking about being pooled or stuck in screening. Anyone else still waiting for a complete notification? 12 days ago I got this:

Dear Applicant,
This email is to notify you that we have received your CMS supplemental application and application fee.... etc

They have had my application, fees, and LORs for almost 2 weeks, but I haven't gotten the complete email 😕 How long did it take you guys to get complete status? Granted I mailed my app on the fifth of August so they may be swamped, but still, doesn't seem like it should take this long for them to go "yup, we have his LORs and application". They even cashed my check 2 weeks ago.

I also got that email without being marked complete. I believe I mailed it out August 2nd or 3rd.

Actually I got the complete email before even sending out my app (they made a mistake) 🙂. Just got the real complete email about 5 minutes ago, so it took about 2 weeks from the day I mailed it out.

I just got the complete email as well, literally just got it 🙄

Wait a second... its 8pm in Chicago... Maybe at 5pm the dean read this thread and then went to yell at the workers "What I read on SDN was outrageous! None of you guys are going home until you catch up on that pile of complete applications!!"

Thanks Mr. Dean 👍

got a small pool email tonight 9pm- is this like GW's re-review kiss of death?

I hope not!!!!!! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

When did they send you the email that they were undergoing primary screening for your application, if you don't mind answering.

Small pooled today. Received application complete email on July 26th and primary screening email on August 3rd. Would love to interview here! It's pretty close to where I live. :xf:

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear something! :luck:

So if we're small pooled, whats the percentage/statistic of getting an interview from a small pool? Anyone know?

hmmm...I was sent the primary screening email on 8/3 as well but I have yet to receive any email. They would tell us immediately if they rejected us, right?

I don't know if they would tell you, but it took them about 10 days to screen me. Given that I was earlier than you in the cycle, I wouldn't worry too much, since I'm sure they're "buried under applications".

Anyone think it's too late to add rosalind to AMCAS? I ruled out a lot of schools b/c I didn't meet their 2nd semester of orgo requirement (it's a long story), but I realized, if I do end up getting in I could always just take the class before matricualtion, right? My stats aren't amazing though, 28Q 3.5 uBCPM 3.7uCumm, 4.0 for both in grad school (MS in Bio). I would also be a resident if that helps at all. Any insights?

We have the same timeline 🙂 I am unsure how to feel about the "small pooling" since no one has been rejected yet, right?

Twinsies! 😛

I've been too lazy to look, but Tippyboat was kind enough to look through last year's thread and it looks like there's a good chance (ie. >50%) of getting an interview invite if small pooled. Let's hope it stays true this year too! :luck:

what does it mean to be smalle pooled? do they email u saying you've been small pooled? or is just an email saying the'yve received all your stuff and they will begin reviewing it for an invite

I too got the primary screening email on 8/3 but haven't heard anything back yet beyond that. I was complete on 7/29 as well.
Hopefully we hear something soon

I don't remember exactly what the email says, but when you are small pooled, they put you within a group of applicants who could potentially be interviewed. Many people who are small pooled get interviews, but there are people from last year's thread who were small pooled early on and heard absolutely nothing until the end of the admissions cycle. I think I may have been small pooled for a few weeks before my interview invite came.

The website says a committee or 3 individuals, but can we send more, say, 5?

i got an email saying i've been small pooled today...how do i get the invite now?

Got a rejection email from Rosalind today... Complete 7/20ish. 🙁 Oh well... At least I have some interviews to keep me company. 😛

Aww, sorry to hear...was this email sent to you after a "preliminary review of your file" (screening) was performed? Stay positive though, you have other interviews, which is a great sign! 🙂
