Scratch that. Was just rejected for the class of 2015 too. Who knew I was such a gunner.

Received two rejections....really I only think one is necessary. Didn't look too closely if the second one said class of 2015. haha

Anyone intereviewing on the 23rd? Do those interviewees get included in this month's meeting?

Lowest MCAT score let in to RFUMS has been a 23.
Experience at RFUMS is variable. The school is located very far from the city near the great lakes navy base so there is little time to visit downtown Chicago. You need a car, if you can get by with ordering peapod for the first two years you will eventually need a car for the last two years because the hospitals are spread all over Illinois and some in Wisconsin.
It is a very small school with limited resources.
Make sure you can handle self learning, do not expect to be taught. Curriculum is best for people who can cram and who are very fast readers. Class size is huge, they often combine lectures with other schools like podiatry and all lectures are essentially given in one very large auditorium.
Do not expect to enjoy your first two years, do not live at the Woodlands.

Are you bitter because you failed step 1 or something? Med school is supposed to be hard it's not a party. Grow up

You bitter or something cause you got rejected? People asked I answered. You grow up. And no, I did not fail my boards.

Not sure what greensheen is so negative about, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at CMS. I think we get a great preclinical education, and yes, you will have to study hard and spend time outside of class reading and studying. Not sure about all the self study hate, but every medical student I have ever met had to study on their own and reread the class notes over and over. If you are expecting to remember everything that is said in lecture, you are in for a rude awakening. We all self study. I will say this, our preclinical education, if you follow the class notes, prepares you very well for Step 1. Many of our professors have FA in their office to ensure they include the pertinent information in their lectures. That's a huge plus.

There are many great apartments to live in around CMS. Woodlands is ideal location-wise but far from the nicest amenities-wise. The on-campus housing is pretty nice actually.

I would not live at woodlands because they raise your rent every year and don't allow 2 year leases. There have also been some significant maintence concerns such as a fire in building 5 and flooding in building 2. Front desk and office staff are also very rude once you sign your lease. The Navy housing has recently been opening up its housing to students, it's much cheaper and has a better reputation.
I think the lectures at CMS are terrible, that's why nobody attends class. The lecturers come to class and read verbatim off their slides (unless something has changed in recent years). I came from an undergrad university where teaching was the most important part of the educational process. I did not find that at CMS. It's wikki university, nothing is explained unless you look it up yourself. I can't say I've met one student that thinks CMS is a great place to go to medical school after finishing up second year. Also, it is the university that gives least amount of time for boards studying. And our boards scores are exactly the national average. Like I said, if you are a good book learner you'll be fine but if you need a classroom teaching experience you need to reconsider.

Uh...anybody know when the next committee meeting is? 😉

I read that they met every 3rd Tuesday of the month....I think we should get something soon. good luck!

Would you recommend living in the on-campus housing?

The people who live in campus housing all seem to like it pretty well. They are like apartments and the lease is shorter or longer depending on your preference I think, which can be good especially for second year. If they have room in housing I'd say sure go for it. There is also a blog feed somewhere on the campus web with people looking for roommates in off campus housing.

I'm pretty sure AJgem got accepted. 😀 Also, it would be a little sad if a medical student isn't capable of self-learning. We can't be spoon fed all our life. CMS stresses the Interprofessional environment....plus all medical professions need to learn the same Basic Sciences....So it makes sense why they decided to combine lectures. I have heard different things from different people. Generally, the majority like CMS. The majority of 1st anf 2nd years at any medical school also hate the difficulty of the 1st and 2nd years so I can (kind of) understand your bitterness. If there is anything to complain about this school, it should be the tuition... =/ ..Good luck to the rest of you waiting to hear back!

It was admittedly a little frustrating to hear, "You guys are used to working for that grade, so you'll be fine." coming from an administrator. I'm sure CMS is great, but the ABCDF system must make it SUCK, at least a little.

Then there was the dude who openly admitted he was a gunner. Used the word. Not sure why he's proud of it. It's best to gun silently and actually be friends with people.

Where can I get information about Naval Housing? Ive looked online, and I can't seem to find anything.

anyone hear anything recently? i was expecting an email today because i know they meet third/fourth tuesday of the month and generally send out decisions later in the week…

called in today… admissions office said we should be hearing from them this Friday!

we being people waitlisted and those that may have interviewed since the last month

Officially withdrew my acceptance today. In previous cycles I've been on the waitlist at multiple schools and ended up having to reapply, so I know what you're all feeling. Good luck to you all!

I just received an acceptance too! I interviewed February 8th and was put on hold twice. Hang in there everyone and good luck!

also just got accepted after being put on hold last month. Best of luck to everyone else!

I got put on hold today....interviewed April 9th....think we will still hear something on Friday?

Accepted!! Interviewed way back in the third week of October 😀
I can't believe I actually have decisions to make now wow!

I doubt we will be hearing until after May 15th now… I think they gave the Friday date because they don't like to give out adcom meeting specifics

bummer....so does on hold=waitlist?

Accepted this morning! First acceptance! God I thought this day would not happen. What a humbling year! Good luck to those on hold and hopefully everything will work out in the end :luck:

Yes, being put on hold means you are wait listed…They review the list every adcom meeting, so you have a chance of getting accepted/rejected or put on hold each time…

I'm sure it has already been asked, but do they accept update letters or letters of interest? And has anyone done a post-interview one? I know they want updated transcripts, but I didn't see anything about other updates.

I sent an updated letter a couple a few weeks after my interview. I gave them an unofficial transcript, spoke about what impressed me about CMS, and let them know about my med-related activities (volunteering, research, shadowing) since my application. It must have worked, because I got accepted the next week!

Hey! Is anyone looking for a roommate for either on-campus housing or the woodlands? I'm open to both. I'm an incoming M1 student(female, Indian, non-smoker, neat/clean). Message me if interested =)

Anyone looking to move in early I have a 2 bedroom at the Woodlands, PM me, you can get it starting June and just renew the lease. I'll throw in all my furniture for free
