Many schools don't seem to be following last year's time line. It seems like invites are going so soo slooowly. In trickles rather than waves.

I second this sentiment. Schools seem to be going a little more slowly this year. All we can do is wait 🙂.

Can anyone expand more upon the influence of the Jesuit tradition here? It sounds appealing, but I'm not sure how it plays out concretely.

Also, is the student body predominantly Catholic, or is it more open to different faiths and denominations?

Thanks!

my friend at slu says they're about to distribute interview invitations.

let's see how reliable my friend is.

Interview invite!

Complete 8/3. OOS, but with IS connections that I stated and explained in the essay.

Thanks everyone! Still looking at dates and times - looks like it's every Monday and Tuesday from Sept. 12th and on.

Complete 7/18 and haven't heard anything since...doesn't look like a good sign

Story of my application cycle thus far. I think a lot of schools extend invites to high-stat applicants first and give them to average folks later in the cycle. Trying not to lose hope.

Look at my MDApps. I am a little lower than average. Many people that are regulars here have been to rejected to a few schools before getting an II.

There's always hope!

Interview Invite! my first one!! soooo excited and relieved! Anyone know how the student housing works? is it one day if you fly in on sunday, 2 if you fly in on sat?

My stats are similar to yours so we're in the same boat. I got my first II in early July so the rejections & silence of the past 7 weeks make me wonder if it was a fluke. But yeah, there' not much to do but be patient and try not to over-analyze.

Just added SLU to my list! The secondary is sent before verification, right?

Complete 8/2, interview invite 8/22; 3.9/37 (and Teach for America, that may have helped with SLU).

Very excited and honored. Good luck to everyone.

II 8/22 - submitted early July. >3.9 gpa and >33 mcat. really pumped to check out slu. OOS

interview invite!

Does anyone know the interview:acceptance ratio???

I have MSAR from 2009-2010 year, but wondering what it was like for 2010-2011.

Thanks!

Shouldn't be much different from the year before. They should keep things pretty consistent me thinks

I'm with you, man. I was verified by amcas 6/21 and applied to 27 schools, and not a single invite.

Hey, don't get discouraged. It is important to remember that all schools have a different interview process. In general, schools interview the outstanding applicants first and offer more interviews as the outstanding applicants choose other schools. It is courtesy to withdraw from schools lower on your list as you obtain acceptances from schools higher on your list. Chances are you have not been invited because they have not cycled to you yet, but that does not mean that you will not get an interview or acceptance. The interview season is beginning not ending. Good luck, and I can't wait to hear about your first interview/acceptance.

Yea, don't get discouraged. I went through 2 years with 35 schools and no invite at all 😎 Oh, and also the numerous heartbreaks in the middle, lol

how do you stay sane?

Applying your 3rd cycle shows dedication and commitment 👍

Wow. And you're a Cornell grad as well. Good luck with your interview coming up!

It plays out however you want it to play out. If you aren't Catholic, then you wouldn't know that SLU is a Catholic school (other than a small cross hanging in every room - something that actually took me awhile to even notice.) If you are Catholic (or even if you aren't) and would like to be involved, we have a "Father" in the med school who does Mass every day. His office is open (to everyone) for coffee, candy, games, naps, etc. I think he holds small group sessions and stuff like that. It's all really up to you.

Also, is the student body predominantly Catholic, oris it more open to different faiths and denominations?
I don't think the student body is anymore "Catholic" than any other school. We are completely open to all faiths and denominations. We just happen to have a Jesuit affiliation, which you may or may not take advantage of.

Lastly, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm an MS-3 at SLU and can answer any questions you may have - just PM me. I may check this thread very sporadically.

i'm thinking of adding slu to my med schools, but was wondering about the english requirement. do the classes have to be from the english dept. or can they be writing-intensive, as some other med schools say are accepted?
the website doesn't say anythings beyond the english req., so does anyone know?
good luck to everyone 🙂

Anyone have any travel/lodging tips?

Hey, I live in the Lou and can give you a couple tips:
Getting around without renting a car is very doable with some research. Try to find a hotel somewhere along the red Metrolink line. This saves a lot of money and headache while getting to/from the airport. Cabs to the SLU area would probably run about $40 whereas a metro ticket is $2-3 one-way and they take about the same amount of time.

Do not rely on the Metrolink for getting to campus. The Grand Blvd stop is closed until 2013 - if it were open, it would drop you off a block away from the med school. You'll want to cab from the hotel, but make sure you reserve it in advance.

It takes about 20 min to check in and get through security at the airport, so no need to schedule a departing flight super late in the evening.

I swear, driving past SLU twice a day while waiting to hear from them is nervewrecking. Complete since 6/24.

Student host program! ~$25 (IIRC...) for a place to stay and priceless discussion with a current SLU student!

I highly recommend the student host program. The students will often pick you up from the airport, drop you off, and will given plenty of good advice about the school/interviews.

BTW, interviews start Monday 9/12 and run every Monday and Tuesday until March.

interview invite too! congrats to those who got it. 😀

Edit: oh and does anyone know where to apply for the student host program? i can't find the link on the website. lol

and i submitted 7/7. don't think i ever received a complete email.
