My interview is only a week away. Super nervous. It's my first med school interview.

I'm not staying with students, since I have family in the Lou really close to SLU. Does that seem like an OK thing? I am still open to spending additional time with current students post-interview.

It is really laid back - don't be nervous. I enjoyed my day there, and i really liked the school and its "vibes"

Got an interview invite! OOS 3.8 GPA 33 MCAT. Complete sometime in mid July.

Interviewed yesterday 9/19, if anyone has questions. Dean said we would have to wait until after 10/15 for decision (per AAMC). First time I heard of this.

Was there only one interview with the assigned person? Any tips? Mine's coming soon!

yes. The tips really depend on who your person is...if you want to know about my interviewer specifically on the chance that it's your's too, PM me

How do they choose who will interview you anyway?
Is it totally random?

My status page says "The Committee on Admissions will review your application and notify you when a decision is made."

Does that mean I'm complete, letters and all?

So I have an interview nearby SLU next month. is it ok if i send an update letter and see if they can kinda squeeze me in for an interview then? or is it better to call and ask? Thanks!

- i'm complete but no interview yet

I believe that, somewhere, their website does say that "in the area" letters are welcome.

I'll be here Monday! Very excited.

It's not totally random (though it is in most cases).

Send an e-mail (or call the office if you'd rather... but e-mails tend to be easier and they'll put it in your file). They'll usually try to work with applicants.

Going in for an interview soon. My interviewer is a radiology professor. Do I need to express interest in the radiology program/brush up on radiology/learn about rad research happening at SLU?

NO. Don't fake interest. SLU wants to know what you're passionate about and who you actually are. Sucking up to the interviewer is likely to skew the committee's view of who you are and what you're really about.

It's standard. Poor interviewees last Tuesday near had heart attacks when Dr. Willmore accidentally slipped up and said they wouldn't hear until April 15th though.

It's just fine. Staying with students is great just because you'll get a feel for what students are like and their opinions on Saint Louis and the school, but it's not essential. You'll have time to talk to 2nd years over lunch, a 4th year giving your tour, and other students hanging around if you want. Honestly, it's probably better not to stay with students next week... it's a test week for both first and second years and typically we won't have much time to chat for long or sightsee then.

How does the staying with students thing work for SLU? I have an interview scheduled that's coming up soon and my itinerary is up but I never received an email with info about staying with a student. Do I need to call the office for those details?

if you filled out the online form found in the interview links, you'll receive an email a few days before your interview from your host. i didn't hear until the friday or so before my Tuesday interview and I freaked out a little, but it worked out just fine. My host was even able to pick me up and drop me off from the airport and was really great about answering questions!

submitted on august 6 and complete shortly after this, no word since this, do they accept update letters? I took two summer science courses that make significant impacts to my sGPA.

How long did it take others to get the "pooled" email? or just a status update?

I just finished my interview at SLU and overall it was very enjoyable and laid-back. Interviewed with Dr. Kearney for about 35 minutes and it was very conversational - just getting to know me better and questions about my background and a few of the activities from my AMCAS.
After morning interviews there was a tour of the school and neighboring buildings and then a lunch with MS2s and an MS4. Then there was a brief talk by a financial advisor and a tour of SLU Hospital (although I didn't go on that since I'm already familiar with it as a SLU undergrad).
Overall there were ~15 other applicants in my interview class. SLU is a great place and all of the faculty I met were extremely nice.

I realize how bad it sounds now 🙂. Thanks for the advice.

BTW, I'm in the SLU library right now. I am staying with a student host and interviewing tomorrow. It has been very helpful talking with the students about school here and it has totally psyched me up for coming here. Also, as I was eating downstairs, I saw a flat screen with the names of everyone interviewing tomorrow and what school they're from. Got a little choked up when I saw my name 😉. I'll be seeing some of you tomorrow probably.:luck::luck::luck:

We totally just met, we just didn't know it. 👍

My interview status still says decision pending. :bang:

Mine says: "Application Complete" and "The Committee on Admissions will review your application and notify you when a decision is made."

However, it doesn't say anything about interview status pending....

Hi folks, which interview site is better? Saint Louis or the Eye Institute? Thanks tons~!

I just got an interview. It was absurdly quick. My letters of rec were sent in yesterday and I got an interview today. Did this happen to anyone else?

What are your stats?

Really? You can't really be that obtuse not to understand the power of your stats.

I know they're good but I didn't think they'd bump my application process up. Thanks.

That happened to me but my stats are nowhere near as good as yours, so I dunno. I got an interview invite the Monday after I was complete Friday.

Added the school last week. Got secondary an hour after. Interview invite today. Wow that was quick. 🙂

Stats:
4.0GPA, 38R MCAT

Do they process applications with different speeds depending on the applicant?

It certainly possible that they process applications quicker depending on the stats. I completed the secondary june 21st and I have not heard sh**.

Sorry, just getting my frustration out. Congrats on your stats and good luck.

Schools know you put in that hard work 👍
Good luck with your interview and to the rest of the schools you applied to. :luck:

Interview invite! Does anybody have anything to say about Dr. Shoemaker? Is it true SLU's acceptance rate out of interviewed students is high? Also, any SLU specific tips for the interview from current med students? Thank you!

Dr. Shoemaker is really laid back. It's hard to have a bad interview with him as he likes almost everyone. SLU acceptance rate post-interview is fairly high (many get pulled off the wait list). Really, there's no interview tricks. Be yourself (but be professional). Show what you're passionate about and why. Have some ideas (don't memorize a pre-formulated answer though) to answer the basic interview questions (strengths, weaknesses, why SLU, etc.). If you do this, you should be fine. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have been trying to do this secondary but I cant access the link. It has been down for days. Does anyone know what I should do?

Just sent in the secondary last week.
Stats:
4.0 gpa 34 N MCAT

For those of you interviewing with Dr. Willmore, I just want to warn you that despite everyone saying that the interview will be conversational, there is the off-chance that he could turn up the stress knob as he did in my case. I walked into his office, and spotted a neat pathways diagram, which I commented on, and so then he proceeded to show me a slide with some biochemical reaction that I had never seen before. I had stated in my amcas that I am a biochem TA, so he assumed that I must have known that reaction, and when I told him that I didn't recognize it, he continued the rest of the interview with a total look of distrust and disbelief. Each question he then asked me was about my personal statement or AMCAS, and each question was stated in the tone "so I think you lied on your App - now convince me otherwise"
I was embarrassed because I thought that maybe I had seen it somewhere and that I had forgotten about it, and his look was was so awkward that when he asked me "why did you apply to SLU", all I could think of was why I had initially applied, which was for no particular reason, and forgot all the things I was making mental notes of while on tour (note to self, take physical notes). Anyways, be careful on your interviews.

sorry to hear that.

but did you figure out what reaction it was?
