Any tips for how long to allow for transport to/from the airport? I've got an afternoon interview and would prefer to fly out that night but don't want to be stressing during my interview as to whether I'm going to make my flight if my interview's running late.

Googlemaps says it's a 30 minute drive from campus, but I don't want to risk missing my flight. Anyone who has experience leaving from campus directly to the airport - how many hours should I leave in between the end of my interview and the flight departure?

Yeah, I tend to only 'compare' myself to those with similar stats. They tend to group people into categories like that. You're 'competing' with those that have similar stats to you, not those that are shoo-ins everywhere. Same idea with URM, they have spots for them, and if you're not URM you're not competing for those spots.

However, if you have higher stats, it's not to say that you can't get the boot from the whole process if they don't find you genuine. Likewise, if you have lower stats and you're a really good fit, you could be taking a place of a 'shoo-in'.

Yeah it seems like all the schools do things differently. I got an interview at San Diego already with OOS, c3.6, s3.76, and 32 (high sci low verbal). I work at the NIH and have a lot of research experience which is why I think I got one at UCSD. SLU is a bit more focused on primary care and they are probably grouping as you said. Not worried, just waiting! Love it. Congratulations to the interview recipients!

Check out metro link. It will take you from the airport at least most of the way. Metrobus can take you the rest. I'm a local, but I own a car, so my metro fu is only so strong.
 
As a local who often takes the metro, I can safely say that the trip from SLU campus to Lambert Airport is around half an hour, give or take about 3 minutes. The good thing about taking the metro is that the Grand MetroLink stop, which is a fairly short walk from the SLU Med campus, is set to reopen later this month. I wouldn't bother with the MetroBus.

Depending on the traffic at the time you leave your interview, it'll probably take you about 20-25 minutes to get there, since it's easy to get onto I-64 near SLU and from there it's smooth sailing through highways to the airport terminals.

Don't take me as the end all be all credible source, but leaving 2 hours before your flight should be fine. I've departed my apartment for local flights before as late as 80 minutes prior to departure and still been fine, since Lambert Airport's a fairly small airport overall and getting through security usually doesn't take long in my experience, but don't do that.

Dr. Perman interviews a lot for both the medical school and for SLU's diagnostic radiology residency. He's a pretty serious guy and he does play hot and cold depending on how strongly he feels you would be an asset. People describe it as an okay interview, but a little bit strange only because he types on his computer screen the whole time.

I interviewed with him for SLU's radiology program and I thought it was a pleasant interview. However, a lot of other people who interviewed with him did not have a great experience. Be prepared to explain your research in and out if you have any. For instance, I believe this female applicant had research that in some way, shape, or form used a pulse oximeter. He asked her to explain to him how a pulse ox works. Things like that.

He will most definitely ask you why slu and what you bring to the table.

I would rate the ease of interview at around a 6.5 out of 10 if 10 is the hardest interview I have had.
 
So how does it work with regards to your specific interview time? Do you get an email after you select a date?

you get an email after you select a date, that tells you that you have been assigned to an interviewer and to check the secondary app. You can see what time you interview is on the my interview part of the secondary.

Just to clarify, if I have a morning interview my day is over after the 12-1pm luncheon, right? So that would mean that I could fly out any time after 3pm?

OOS, 3.9 GPA, 32P, lots of volunteer work in free health clinics.

He's cool. Very friendly. I did research with him and I know a lot of his students who liked him.

It depends what airlines you're flying. If you're flying on Southwest, it'll take you <10 minutes to get through security and to your gate once you get to the airport. Southwest basically has its own terminal at the airport. Any other airlines, though, and it might take more than 45 minutes depending on how busy it is.

Traffic can also be terrible going from SLU to the airport. No traffic = ~18 minute drive. Traffice = >35 minute drive.

Bad idea. The nearest metro stop is the one on Grand and it's incredibly shady. You could get off at the CWE metro stop, but it's only about a $40 cab ride from the airport to SLU.

Oh and I'm not a med student. I'm applying this cycle too, but I do have personal experience with Shoemaker. He's definitely a "So tell me about yourself" kind of guy.. He asked me that question when he interviewed me for his research lab.
 
Interview Invite! When do you find out who is interviewing you? I got that interview confirmation, but it just says that a representative will be interviewing me...

I went to SLU undergrad and Dr. Cooper is the anatomy teacher for nursing students and med students. I heard shes strict in class and is big on pronouncing anatomy words correctly lol. Thats all i know though, hope some of this helps

No one knows when you're rejected but you. The status of other applicants has zero bearing on when yours specifically will come out. I think the cited stat is that 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 applicants posts to SDN, so if a roll of rejections/II/acceptances come out, generally SDN will know about it first. Asking won't really help though, these people will post either way it seems.

Once you schedule it, the representative schedule is replaced with your interviewer and the actual time of your interview.

first year here, had dr. shoemaker as my interviewer. the interview was very straightforward - he basically went through my application and asked me about my ECs. no curveball questions. good luck!

It's all quiet. Last cycle I was complete early (July), didn't hear a peep until my interview invite in Feb. Pretty sure their class was close to full at that point though because everyone on SDN seemed to get waitlisted after.
 
Got a brochure from SLU SOM in the mail today. It was kind of lame lol... I wish schools would save some trees rather than mailing us the same info that can be found on the website!

Dr. Railey is an awesome guy. He was the reason I felt kind of bad turning SLU down.... If I could convince him to come to my school somehow, I'd do it in a minute. Have a great interview!

I have an email receipt that I paid the secondary app fee on July 2. There was no other correspondence that my file was complete or anything until I got the invite earlier today

Yeah if I get an II at all I expect to be waitlisted.

I was complete Jul 28 and no change. I am OOS.

I interviewed at SLU last year, thought I'd chime in. I believe Dr Willmore is the associate dean of admissions. He's also a very awesome guy and rocks a great bow-tie. The students who interviewed with him said he was really cool, just basic stuff and very conversational.
