I remember someone told me after the interview that he sometimes ask really hard/technical/obscure questions just to see if you'll admit that you don't know.

I thought he was so nice. It was a really laid back interview, we just talked about my application, about a lot of my experiences (have some unique ones, been out of school for 3 years). He asked me some specific questions about it, but didn't ask any technical questions or anything. All in all I thought it was a really good interview... but I hope the lack of technical questions is a good sign and not a bad one!

Were all those "what ifs" relevant to reevaluating your choice to operate? I've had something similar, but related to dealing with angry family members and removing life support...

I think he was getting at when do you call it quits, since the patient is so old and more surgeries would likely reduce the quality of what little life she has left.

no decisions yet this week?
I spoke with a lady in admissions yesterday and the committee DID meet this wednesday, so I'm assuming emails will go out this afternoon.

The woman also confirmed (no shocker here) that the admissions committee is not meeting at all next week.

Interviewing with Dr. Margaret Cooper - anyone have any relevant experiences or tips?

The first week they went out on a Tuesday, but since then they seem to have gone out on either Thursday or Friday afternoons.

I'll take that as a yes! Thanks! I'll be checking my email every five miutes this afternoon lol

Accepted! What a beautiful, savory moment. This means that the last major impediment to me becoming a doctor has now fallen away.

accepted today as well. interviewed the week of 10/8. very excited!

True to your word....Accepted last night! First one, so obviously so pumped! Congrats to the others who heard good news

interviewed early october and accepted! 🙂
congrats to others for good news!

Hey everyone, is there a presentation? What time is it?
I didn't see it on my itinerary.

Also I heard that medical students at luncheon are on adcom. Any inputs?

The only presentations were a short financial aid presentation (like, 5 minutes) between the tour and afternoon interviews, and a video presentation at the end of the tour.

I don't think they're on the admissions committee, but I can't be 100% sure.

I saw that on interview feedback, which surprised me.

I heard mixed things about this. Probably not true....but just be interested and personable, and don't say anything......stupid. 😉

The student I ate with actually told me that they ARE on the admissions committee and explained the whole process. Basically your interviewer will present your case to the committee, and the students who remember you will chime in and comment on the presentation. Then the whole committee will give scores to your application, when the scores are added up and if it is over a certain number then you are accepted.

Thank you for clearing the air!

😱 So that's why he made me answer "why medicine."

Lol....well then. There you go. Sneaky sneaksters.... 😉

Accepted on Friday!!! Interviewed Oct. 15th. First ever interview and first ever acceptance 😀

So incredibly happy and grateful to get into such a great school. Also, Canadian! Will keep my fingers crossed for any others still waiting too :xf:

Wow, I didn't know this. My conversation at lunch was pretty uneventful, but I DID offer to throw out everyone else's lunch trash when I threw out mine. I guess that was a smooth move🙂

For those who were accepted, did any of you get confirmation that SLU received the 100 deposit? I was accepted 11/9, and I sent in my deposit around 11/12. Also, should we be expecting an acceptance package via postal mail? Thanks, and congrats everyone!

I got a confirmation of my deposit about a week after sending it (but then again, I mailed it from St. Louis, so expect longer if you're from farther away!). When you say acceptance package do you mean the basic "congrats, you're in" letter? That's all I got, I was accepted mid-October. 🙂

This. I got a confirmation email 1-2 weeks after sending in the check.

Just got an interview invite today...I was pretty much set on D.O. so I really hope this works out

What day are you guys interviewing? My girlfriend goes to SLUSOM. I'll see if we are available.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

I'm interviewing next Tuesday. And I hope I could have a place to stay on Monday night. :xf:

Just wanted to further clarify the discussion about students on the admissions committee. Yes, we technically have a "say" but our input likely means extremely little, if anything at all. Furthermore, students very rarely even attend the committee meetings. And even when they do, they don't specifically attend the meetings of the applicants with whom they ate lunch. Personally, I don't even remember the names of the people I eat lunch with so I wouldn't even know which committee meetings to attend. The real point of us talking to the applicants at lunch is so that we can tell you all about the school and answer any questions you may have. So please use that time to focus on learning more about the school instead of trying to impress the medical student, etc.

With all of that said, feel free to PM questions about SLU, as I don't usually check this thread. Good luck to everyone.

Re: Student Hosting
I'm interviewing next Tuesday as well. OOS. I've looked up hotels just in case, and I'm hoping there will be vacancies since it's after Thanksgiving...

Right behind you guys on Monday. Kinda nervous!

The student host program finally got back to me for next week's interview. I actually booked a hotel room this morning and cannot cancel it (booked discounted room on priceline name your price). Both happy and angry b/c I assumed they would not get back to me.

Do you suggest staying with host?

Yes, I do. My host was excellent.

If you're looking for a hotel, I suggest you start with these three.

http://www.grandcenterguesthouse.com/. Directly across the street from the undergrad campus, which has a free shuttle to and from the med campus.

http://www.slu.edu/x27017.xml. Half a block south of the med campus.

http://www.theparkwayhotel.com/. 1.5 miles from the undergrad campus and probably 3-4 miles from the med school. The upside is that it's right by a metro train stop so you can save the $40 cab fare from the airport and spend $2-$3 to ride the train instead.

Thank you 🙂 -- sorry, forgot to quote/specify.

Interview Invite!! Scheduled for Dec. 11;

I am sooooo excited. This is my third one. I already did Creighton's and am doing NYMC's this monday.

St. Louis seems like it would be a great place to study/live for the next four years, though!

27R, 3.79gpa, buttloads of EC 🙂

congrats! when did you submit your secondary? thanks.

Anyone who hasn't heard back from student host, please hang in here! I chose to stay with a host and I think it is a right decision.
