2014-2015 Saint Louis University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
@Paradism @Buttermellow
Thanks for sharing your experience at SLU!

As a follow up question, could you tell us more about the study spaces on campus (library, students lounges, cafes, etc). My tour felt really quick and we didn't have time to check out the MS1 building.

Also, will there be some sort of event that will present all the student groups and research opportunities for new students? I have poked around the website for info on research happening on campus and haven't found a lot of info about it.

Thanks!

The Education Union (EU), where many of the M1 classes are held, has a nice study area with comfortable couches, tables, and computers available. There's also a little café within this building with some decent food, though it's a bit pricey. There's also a standalone coffee shop/café on the med school campus which is nice.

The LRC building, which is actually several buildings in continuation, has an abundance of places to study here. The med school library is located on the second floor, and is a popular spot to study. It's outdated, but it's pretty quiet and rarely crowded. There are also conference study rooms available in the library. Also on the second floor are private study rooms which can hold smaller groups. Additionally, there is a student lounge in the basement, though I doubt this is an ideal place to study. Nearby the lounge is a connecting area between the hospital and the school which a lot of people use to eat lunch or study. Basically, the LRC is a huge huge building and there are plenty of places to study; everyone will have their own preference.

There are some people who study at the undergrad library, though I've never been so I can't comment on it. There are also coffee shops nearby the undergrad campus where people go to study.

As far as your second question, there is a research fair that happens early in first year, as well as several talks discussing researching, etc. Don't you worry, students get plenty of e-mails reminding them of research opportunities and student groups. I'm not currently involved in research though, so maybe @Buttermellow can give more details.

Similarly interested. Has SLU rejected pre-II up to this point?
Does anyone know how many interview sessions there are? If I didn't get a rejection letter last time, but also didn't get an interview what should I think of that? Obviously happy to still be in the running, but any response would be great.
Same boat. I'd really like to interview here. I'd be really interested to know when they stop giving out interviews and how much of the class is already full. We may just be interviewing for a waitlist spot at this point.

Should I call the admissions office about a decision on my application? I interviewed November 11th but still have not heard anything.

GPA: 3.9, MCAT: 31.

Where have people found the cheapest places to stay around St. Louis?
The hosting program is the cheapest option I found. It also allows you to meet some med students and ask them some preemptive questions before you go onto campus to interview.

i have decided to just ignore it. i don't think asking for a decision from any school will change anything.

Interviewed 9 weeks ago, haven't heard anything. I think they are a little slow right now.

Just FYI for people that were complete late: I was complete in 10/20 (I know I almost shot myself in the foot), II 12/10, lucky enough to grab a 12/16 date. LizzyM ~73, not URM. I wouldn't get your hopes up but I wouldn't lose hope either, just take your mind off it.

Same interview group. You haven't heard back have you? Still waiting...

is there an accepted student Facebook group yet? Still early in the season so maybe not?

i really can't tell if there is a specific weekday on which decisions tend to come out. is it just any day of the week or is it usually one or two specific days?
this is 8 weeks post-interview for me, so i'm on the edge of my seat!!

Rejected. Lizzy M of 68 (3.9, 29) and complete in early August. Figured it was coming. Good luck to everyone else! 🙂

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that so many rejections were sent out today :/ I hope you achieve your med school dreams elsewhere this cycle

I am very fortunate to say I received an II today. Complete in October, OOS LizzyM=72. Available dates spanning the month of February.

Feeling the same way. Received an II today, but never fun to see others find different news. Scheduled for February 17th; there are still open days. I figured all hope was lost as an OOS applicant and was awaiting rejection. If you are still in the game then there is hope!
