2015-2016 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

Congrats to everyone who was accepted recently!
Is it likely for them to continue calling and offer acceptances the next couple of days?

sincerely hope so. Any idea how many acceptances offered already?

If all else fails, I only need 1 lung and 1 kidney and half a liver. Anyone got black market contacts?
Yeah, but you're Canadian. Your organs, like your dollar, aren't worth that much ;-) 😛

Multiple Accept Data have been out for a few weeks (mid-February every year, available only for students a school has already accepted).
whoops my mistake haha

I had a short-lived theory that perhaps they were offering them to people who also had acceptances to other "top tier" schools in an attempt to attract them to Wash U. But after creeping the post histories of some of the SDNers on here who have been offered scholarships, it doesn't seem like my theory is supported :-(
sounds like a good hypothesis then!

Congrats to those accepted today! When did you guys interview?

I interviewed on January 25th. Technically I got accepted last week and found out via email on Saturday. My interviewer straight up told me I was supposed to get a call last week but it didn't happen until yesterday. Clearly I have no problems with this because I got in either way.

So can someone please clarify how WashU works? Are both their acceptances and rejections/wait-lists rolling? I interviewed back in January and I have no idea when I'm going to hear anything.

me too! enlighten us plz

During my interview, the Dean basically told me she was winging it. I got the impression that she's like a new pokemon trainer trying to collect as many different rare pokemons for her collection. I personally find the lack of transparency throughout this process unnerving. I remember they gave out a survey at the end of the interview day and at the time I was really impressed by the school and rated highly on the overall experience. I only wish I knew how they keep most applicants in the dark until the very end.

Great interview day experience and probably the best hospitality I've experienced this cycle at WashU but that post-interview love needs improvement.

LOL, you did NOT just compare her to a pokemon trainer! 🤣🤣🤣

And a new one too. The shade.

How fitting - as many of us have pokemons as our avatars. Lol.

For those that filled out the Student and Parental Supplemental Form on the financial aid website, did you fill out the budget section?

Interviewed end of October...Still haven't heard anything..
Anyone else in this boat?

+1 early October.

This doesn't bode well for our chances 🙁

Just took a look at last year's thread and it looks like there were some acceptances in March (early and late) for people who interviewed earlier in the cycle (I'm seeing October and early December amongst them).
I mean I have no doubt that a few of us will be accepted who interviewed earlier but it's just so annoying that we've had to wait so long.

Hey guys, sorry so many of you have had to wait for so long for a final decision. The downside of interviewing so many applicants is that many people do not get a fast decision, especially for early interviews. Unless Dean Ratts has changed things, waitlist notifications should be going out soon. The odds of getting off the waitlist are better than you would think, especially if you truly want to come here. Hang in there - the wait is worth it 🙂

Have people gotten the financial aid information yet? Slash how do we apply for financial aid here?

Are you trying to tell us we've most likely been wait listed?

In all likeliness, yes. I could be wrong, but in past years, a mass waitlist email has gone out around this time. A waitlist at WashU isn't a death sentence like it is at other schools, though. I think the normal quoted number is ~50% of each class is from the waitlist.

Same goes for December (or later) interviewees who haven't heard back yet?

Does that "likely waitlisted" go for recent (mid February) interviewees also?

I don't think so. I don't think they have reviewed our files yet.

Historically yes. In the past, everyone that wasn't already accepted received either a waitlist or rejection notice on the same day. Recently, it seems that we reject few (if any) post-interview, so almost everyone will probably be waitlisted.

Is there a ranked waitlist?

Any tips on getting off the impending waitlist ?

To my knowledge, there is no formally ranked waitlist.

Honestly, a legitimate desire to come here goes a long way. WashU likes people who like WashU. Multiple people in my class got off the waitlist after sending letters of intent (myself included). If you genuinely want to be at WashU next year, let them know.

Thanks for the advice and insight into the mystery of Wash U admissions!

Would it be considered dishonest to write a letter of intent if I know I would turn down a post-wait list acceptance should the financial aid award be significantly less than at another school? I genuinely want to be at Wash U, but I also genuinely want to keep my debt as low as possible.

It would be dishonest in that case to say "if accepted, I will attend," but you could easily write "Washington University School of Medicine is my first choice school" which is what I would go with. Honestly, I doubt they'd hold it against you regardless of how you worded it if you had to turn them down for financial reasons, but I'd still go with the 100% truth.

Maybe someone else knows about the timeline for WashU's financial aid information, but I think some places say that they will provide you information on your financial award info even if you're still on the waitlist. If that's the case, it's probably fair to go ahead and wait until you know for sure. But WashU's financial aid is *extremely* generous, so I'm willing to bet if you're accepted they can make it possible for you to go 🙂.
