2016-2017 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

II invite today! LizzyM 70sih OOS. I'll be coming in from North Carolina, does anyone have any traveling tips?

Where are you flying in to? I flew in to JFK and took the train to New Haven. Super easy, and then I got to spend the weekend in NYC after the interview.

I stayed at the best western plus in New Haven, and they have a free shuttle that dropped me off at the front door to Netter.

Is the train station near the airport? Sorry if this is a dumb question but i'm from the west coast and super nervous about navigating my way to New Haven :/

Train leaves from grand central station. It's about 45 minutes from JFK if you take the subway. With smartphones these days, its very easy to navigate.

I flew into Newark and took the Amtrak from there. The train station is attached to the airport and my train went straight through to New Haven. It was pretty simple to navigate!

Interviewing Friday!! Any tips?!

Relax. It was my first interview, so I was a bit nervous. Everyone was so nice and you can tell they go out of their way to ease any stress. Interviews were just conversations. I think my interviewers talked about themselves as much as I did about myself.

Awesome! Thank you both!

Thank you!

I just checked my portal to see a green check mark next to Application Complete ("Your application is ready!") but I never received email confirmation, is that normal for people get II?

Yes. The last email I had received before I got my II was the email they sent as soon as I submitted the secondary.

Me too! Do you think we'll find out on 10/17?
Ugh I really hope so, I'm only set to be nervous until then, don't think I can go longer. Plus at least when I interviewed they seemed a bit perplexed by the whole October 17th rule.

I interviewed early September and they said we should hear back in about 4-5 weeks and well that's right around then so I think they might let us know at or around 10/17. I checked last year's thread and I believe people first started to hear back around the 19th, a Monday.

Oddly, when I interviewed, they were mum on the whole subject of hearing back. I'm trying to not read into that.

So last year the big day was October 15, but no one got their emails that day. I was one of the earlier interviewees (late August) and got my acceptance October 19. I would not expect to receive news on the first possible day, haha.

Do you go to Netter? If so what do you think so far?

Anyone know how long to expect the ride to be from Boston? Not sure how bad traffic is towards Connecticut.
CT traffic is AWFUL. A lot of stop and go. I've only been to CT a few times but man a 4 hour trip turned into a 6+ hour trip

I went right to Boston after my interview and it took me 2 hours and 45 minutes with a ton of traffic! It really only is 2 hours and 15 minutes or something like that. You'll be fine if I was on a friday evening of a long weekend with traffic!

Hey, it went smooth and low stress, there will be 2 interviews with faculty or students. Just make sure you relax and be yourself .

Yeah it was super laid back and conversational! Just be yourself!

The flight from California is so expensive!!! I was thinking of asking my other East Coast med schools where I applied to hustle up (in a polite manner, of course) with the application process and so that I can bundle up my East Coast interviews. Has anyone else tried to do this? I am scheduled for Nov 7th interview at QU.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not. But, I would feel that is a very risky thing to do at any school. It would seem that you are taking for granted that you will get an interview at this school. Maybe ask them if they are receptive to "in-the-area" calls. Sometimes, schools will interview you because you are there. I would avoid asking them to provide you an interview or a result (because that could also look like you are impatient). Process sucks and is expensive, but that is what it is.

Yea I was just kidding, but thanks for your input! How does "in-the-area" call work? Is that asking for an interview because in the area?

Oh haha okay! And yeah something like that. I haven't had enough OOS interviews to be able to try it out, but it is something like that. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Hi @Hopeful_vet . I have an interview coming at Frank Netter and want to ask for your advice on figuring out the logistics of my travel. How much did the train ride cost? How did you get from JFK to the Grand Central station? Which station did you get off at?

I am thinking of landing at Bradley Intl Airport. Any suggestions on how to travel from there? What website/app you used to navigate the train system/public transportation? Thanks!

Sorry if this has already been established but are rejections here silent?

From what I've seen in the previous threads, I believe they send rejections out at the end of the cycle

Someone correct me if I am wrong

I was rejected in mid-January when I applied in 2014.

Any news yet? At the interview they seemed to suggest that they'd be making our decisions before the 15/17th and would actually just be waiting to send notice.

Haven't heard anything here! My thought too was that they had already made decisions and would be sending them out around the 15th / 17th

I've been slightly nauseous all day. I got the same vibe when I interviewed about them letting us know on the 17th.

Cheapest way from JFK to grand central is the subway (which is about $3 one way), then you would take metro north to New Haven (~$20 one way) and finally an uber/taxi up to Quinnipiac.

From Bradley your only real option will be an uber/taxi from the airport. I think there is a Hartford-New Haven train that might work but I'm not sure on the details if you're coming from bradley (and would probably work New Haven to North Haven too but uber will be easier and probably not more expensive).

Same here! Glad it's not just me...

I think you're a fellow New Englander, so I'm rooting for you!

Also, I second the JFK > Netter travel plan. You get on the AirTrain, then get on the subway, transfer once, get off in Grand Central, take Metro North to New Haven, then Uber to Netter.

Yep, and rooting for you as well! 🙂

Starting to suspect there's another night of poor sleep in our future

Any mid-ish Sept interviews heard back?? I'm starting to freak over here.

Admissions told us that interviewed at the end of September that we should hear around the end of October.. (Im)patiently waiting.
