Has anyone found the facebook page for this years accepted class? Trying to find it but haven't been successful and from what i've heard, it's usually the students who got accepted in september that start it.

On second thought, I think I'll just go ahead a create one and hopefully people start adding to it. If you are on this thread and are an accepted student please feel free to join and spread the news.

i made the group name Western University COMP Class of 2022. SPREAD THE WORD AND JOIN :)
This is only my opinion. Is it too early to make the FB page for class of 2022? There will be people accepted and still waiting for their better choices. Will you be able to screen and only add current students or those accepted to class of 2022?

Hi!
Does Western accepts LORs through AACOMAS or do I need to use a different service?
Is there somebody who can explain me the process, please. I will be suuuuuper grateful :)
I think they are still on holiday break because nobody is answering their phones or emails.

I submitted all of my LOR's through AACOMAS. Pretty sure nearly every school accepts LORs through AACOMAS and is their preferred method.

Hi guys, I submitted my secondary on 10/31/2017. Still haven't heard back. Lizzy M score is 67, non-traditional. I don't know if i should lose all hope, yet? I went to the preview day. Emailed the adviser early on in December but didn't hear anything back. Not sure what to do next. WORRIED!!!

Do you know when the second deposit is due?

If your first deposit was due December 15th, then your second deposit is due January 15th I believe. You should confirm in the acceptance materials they sent. It also shows the deposit due date on your application status page if you haven't paid it yet. Gotta read the information given...

Can any current students comment on housing at Daumier? Thanks!!
Hello, i'm currently a 1st year student. I live in the Daumier. At first, I wasn't sure about the Daumier. However, the other options around campus (777, Helix) are not as nice and older. This building is only 2-3 years old. It is more secure (Pomona is a bad area, esp at night) and only available to students.

Secondly, we have to change clothes quite a bit for different classes. Casual for most, scrubs for lab, professional for ECM, and gym clothes for OMM lab. It is nice having the ability to go home to change and not bring 2-3 pairs of clothes some days. Also we can go home for lunch, pick up any medical equipment, and can decide when to go to class and webcast throughout the day. In short, the convienance factor is very high.

I'm going to be living here next year for these reasons mentioned above. It is too much of a hassle to come to school everyday (for 1-2 hours of class and other days 5-6 hours. In all fairness, the 777/Helix and off-campus places are cheaper. However, I don't believe $100-$200 saving justifies these differences. If you're saving $400/month (as some classmates are), then I would that place over the Daumier. All utilities/parking are included here as well.

Feel free to message me with any questions or if you end up picking it (we can both get a discount next year)

Does anyone know what percent of interviewees get accepted?
According to my notes for last year, they accepted about 64% from interviews of in-state applicants and about 54% OOS. The number of acceptance granted is much higher than the actual matriculants number.

My classmates know who I am immediately when they go on here and see what I type. They voted me Dr. Evil during MedProm for a reason. I'll still say what I want to say. Some of my classmates are fluffy unicorn farts and avatars of Lord AT Still. They're alright because they are open with resources and other good stuff. Their naivete and Kool-Aid drinking does not detract that these mofos perform well in class. But there are others of us who are ultra-realistic. Starting hardcore lecture study groups to free up time so we can actually be a hardcore Step 1 study group before dedicated.

"Avatars of Lord AT Still" I am absolutely SLAYED

Current first year here at Western U, if you all have any questions feel free to ask away.

My secondary was complete by the end of August and I STILL haven’t heard back from either Western campuses. This is getting frustrating!

What are some things you like / dislike about Western?

Likes:
-All lectures are recorded and posted online about 30 min after lectures end. Makes for most weeks where I only go to campus 2 times a week (ECM and OMM)
-Classmates are incredibly helpful and everyone is just trying to help each other get through
-Faculty is great with few exceptions just like anywhere else
-Being in SoCal is always nice, western is about 40 min away from Downtown LA and beaches etc.
-I have never felt unsafe on campus (me being a male, cant speak for my female colleagues ) Campus security is 24 hours/7days and they do offer escorts to cars/rooms.
- The overall campus environment is great

Dislikes:
- OMM heavy (personal preference)
- Not enough study rooms in main building
- No real on-campus food options
- a little high on tuition
- The library is fine, just fine. Most students utilize the nearby Claremont college libraries.

Thanks for your input! What made you choose Western over other schools? Also, are classes P/NP or graded?

Personally, I chose Western U because it is a good school with a good reputation in the area and close enough to my parents' place that I can commute (I'd rather not pay rent). Classes are P/NP.

Do you know if there are any opportunities for clinical research instead of bench lab research?

There are some opportunities with professors as time goes on, but I am not really a good source for that info!

This may not be applicable right now, but do you feel your classes are preparing you for boards well? Multiple choice or free response?

Do you recall how much is the deposit?

No free response questions on exams here ever. Takes too long to grade 320+ students across both campuses.

1st years only get one opportunity per semester to see if classes are preparing them for boards and 95% of students waste the chance because they "didn't feel like studying for it". It's the NBME cumulative ISSM finals. These finals are basically assessments written by the same people who write the Step 1 exam, but for whatever reason no one "takes them seriously". Am I wrong @ZdoggDO ? Happened in class of 2019 and happened in my class.

The averages in my class are usually around 56-58%. The course director said that our class scores much higher than class of 2019. I'm pretty sure that the national average is 70 with stdev 9, so it's very meh. I'm working hard to change this "anti-tryhard on cumulatives" attitude in the class. I think that deep down, they're scared of not being able to say "it's okay I did poorly because I wasn't even doing my best". By trying my ass off, I was able to get 69% and see that my feelings after the test about my weaknesses were right (that I'm terrible at microbiology and renal pathology). So now my board prep for the next 6 months is more focused.

Ya I would agree that most students don't take it too seriously since it's usually the last exam of the semester after many other difficult exams so it's more so something to just get over with on the way to partying/going home. Based on Western's board pass rate I imagine that there must be some method to there madness though since the pass rates have been 96-100% over the past few years if I remember the intro lecture correctly. The deposit was 2 payments of $1000 ..so total deposit was $2000

Anyone going to the pizza social tomorrow? What are yall gonna wear, or what did yall wear, if you went to previous pizza socials?

It’s very casual (I wore jeans and a sweater) and optional. I do recommend going if you’re in the area though.

The advice I got from talking to current med students at the social prepped me well for my interview the next day. :)

Hi all, I'm trying to see what volunteer opportunities Western U has and all the ones I've found seem to be in Oregon which to me suggests they're all for Lebanon students. Does Pomona do all their volunteering in Oregon or where can I find information on Pomona's volunteering opportunities? If Pomona students do it all in Oregon, do they all have access to the exact same volunteering sites or how do I figure out which is for Pomona and which is for Lebanon? Here's the links I've been looking at. Thanks!

Just got a call that I was accepted! Interviewed 12/7.

In regards to recent discussion, I was asked about applying to MD/DO and where I was accepted. I answered honestly about my acceptances and why I applied to both ( that I really just wanted to practice medicine and saw both as equal opportunities) and it seems to have worked! Now for some tough decisions ahead...

Congrats! For both essays and interviews, do you guys think most schools prefer this response vs an actual "this is why I prefer DO" or is it just this school? Both are kinda true for me. I don't really care if I have a MD or DO (though I wonder if I'll be at a disadvantage as a DO when applying for residencies and possibly fellowships due to bias) but I do feel like DO's focus tends to align with my values a little more.

When asked this question I told them, essentially, I identify with the osteopathic philosophy, but if I went down the MD route, I would still be able to achieve my goal.

Does anyone know what the alternate list movement is like here? I got waitlisted :/

Was complete in September, does anyone know if there is still a chance for a II?

I was complete in August and had my interview last week. Not sure if that helps, but best of luck!

What is the best way to prepare for the MMI portion??

I don’t think there’s really any way to prepare. (They told us that we essentially agreed on a non disclosure, so can’t really go into any specifics about the MMI) Try not to nervous, believe that your experiences have prepared you well, be yourself, and be human.

Going to the social the night before and talking to current med students as well as other interviewees might help calm your nerves!

I guess my SDN complaints worked because II today!!

Because of the fact that there are aspects of being a decent human that COULD go on a checklist, you're technically mistaken. It's okay, you don't get told this until several standardized patient encounters.

What is the best way to prepare for the MMI portion??

Helpful assumptions for SP MMIs:
1. No medical knowledge is necessary.
2. Lean toward open-mindedness and listening more than talking.
3. Treat the scenario like a real-life thing

Grading
This may or may not be something given to current students for SP encounters. Notice how easily do-able this is for a decent person, but could be affected by nervousness, poor sleep, jet lag, etc. Maybe certain checkboxes are weighted heavier, but you CAN technically get graded on being a "good" person.

About how long does it take to receive an II after EDS processes your application? or has it been extremely variable?

It’s been prettt variable. I got an II to the Lebanon campus a month after EDS and then got an II to Pomona campus 4 months after EDS cleared.

Hey all.
Completed II's 11/21. Offered interview 01/10/2018. Interviewed 01/18/2018.
Enjoyed meeting everyone on interview day.
Any postulations regarding how long determinations of acceptance/wait list/rejection take? I am guessing 1-2 weeks, however just wondering what others experienced?

I interviewed on 10/05/2017, received acceptance call on 10/27/2017 afternoon. The decision period is about 3 weeks (which we were told on our interview day).

Does anyone know anything about alternate list movement here at Western COMP Pomona?

Do I have a chance of getting off the list?

Sighh

They said we’d find out earliest Jan31st latest February 6th. They also said they meet every Thursday and since our interview group was quite large, half is would hear sooner and the other half later. What color group were in btw?
