MS1 here - feel free to ask any questions about the whole application process or about TUNCOM! We just finished a tiring week long of orientation, but I must say it's been a good learning experience and the faculty/staff are very friendly and caring. My classmates overall are really nice and friendly as well.

Some personal tips to those of you applying (or thinking of applying):
1. Stay positive and resilient throughout the process. Everyone applying will get rejected somewhere, but my personal belief is that if you genuinely want and deserve to become a doctor, you will get into medical school.

2. Be patient. It's a long process, with IIs being given all the way til May. Stop checking your email every five minutes, instead set your phone so you get email notifications, and use the rest of your time doing whatever you've been doing instead.

3. Stop trying to figure out how the adcoms work. For all we know, they could be getting their interviewees by pulling names out of a hat. Only people from the actual admissions committee would know how they're selecting people for interviews, or whether you're a good fit for their school, etc. Fellow applicants telling you what they heard isn't good enough, nor will comparing your stats with accepted applicants tell you whether or not you'll be accepted. Just put in an early and honest application, one that you worked hard on, and hope for the best. It really is all you can (and need) to do.

4. Lastly, stop comparing yourself to other people. I see so many people here trying to understand the application game by asking each other for their stats, when their interview date was, when they got this or that email, etc etc etc. All this does in my opinion is make you more nervous, because now you're thinking "they got ____, why didn't I get it?" Not everyone who interviews early in September/October gets in, and there are plenty of qualified applicants who interview as late as April/May who do get in. You're unique, and you worked hard for a long time to be able to even be in a position to apply to medical school. Your time will come.

Any suggestions on interviewing here? I have heard that they like to grill you to see how you react under pressure.

Yes, feel free to PM me if you want, I'm happy to help! Interview day here consists of a tour, general Q+A session, actual interview, and lunch.

Overall I would say come into the interview relaxed and feeling positive. Just be calm and polite - you know, show yourself to be a decent human being. Don't be arrogant, but also don't be afraid to say "I don't know." They rather you admit that you don't know something than to BS or ramble, hoping they'll buy it. Obviously I can't go into detail as to what Q's will be asked but in general you should come in knowing very well why you want to be a doctor. Think about your application and your experiences and connect it to who you are as a person. Be confident and display those qualities in the interview and you'll be solid.

I interviewed pretty early and my experience was pleasant overall. I was calm and confident (though it did help that I had already gotten into another school at that point), and was just being my honest self. I think at the end of the day, if you go into the interview prepared, and you treat the interview like you're having a relaxed conversation with another human being, you tell the truth and leave the room with no regrets, you'll have done all you could.

Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out anytime!

For the people who received interview invites, did you guys just lit your employment, volunteer, research, etc experiences? Or did you also elaborate on these experiences?

I am unsure because on the Touro-CA application, they want us to include this info along with responsbilites, hours worked, how long we worked there. So should we list the experiences and include this information?

OR should we write about the experiences in paragraph form? Advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Still waiting for II - But, I had a very similarly formatted secondary for another school where I did get an II. I elaborated on all these experiences in essay format and they seemed to like that.

Just my 2 cents

Has anyone received a rejection after receiving the “you are under final review” email?

I am a current OMS-1, and obviously without getting into too much detail with specifics, I can say that this was not really the case. I did answer one ethical question and then it was challenged by one of my interviewers, but as long as you believe the things you are saying to them and aren’t just feeding them what you think they want to hear... that’s not really being grilled! Be yourself 🙂

just got an interview... just listed for everything except research where I used paragraph form. No elaboration otherwise

other with interviews... do any of you know which hotels might offer shuttles?? I really don't want to rent a car because of money

EDIT: I see their list... but more wondering if anyone has a recommendation for the cheapest as far as shuttles, and whether they offer shuttles to the school as well as the airport?

Another an OSM-1 at TUNCOM. Now that we finished our first exam, I'm also willing to answer questions, albeit we only been in school for about 3 weeks and only 1 week in our newly renovated lecture halls.

How are the facilities/professors thus far? Do you like the area around TUN

It says that they will notify applicants the day of the interview how long before they should expect a decision... but in general do you know how long it takes? Also, with a class size of 180 are lectures done for the entire class or are you broken into smaller lectures?

Thank you!!

So far I think the lecture room is pretty nice. I wish the room was a little bigger so there is more room between the back of our chairs and the next row of desks. But outlets are conveniently available, the rolling chairs are comfortable (in my opinion but I'm also a smaller person), and two projecting screens for lecture. We also got this great open room/study space with a bunch of modular whiteboard tables, rolling whiteboards, and a few screens which has been quite useful so far. I still would like to see a few more study spaces, more smaller rooms for more private studying. I've only used the new OMM lab once so I can't really make any comments on that yet and we haven't started anatomy so I haven't seen the renovated lab. Professors so far have been okay. We are still in the middle of our biochem (MCM) unit and they seem pretty knowledgeable on their subject. I haven't really interacted with them outside of lecture yet. However, since we started having lectures at school again (we had our first week of lecture at a casino - I'm not joking about that), I've noticed some of my classmates have stopped going to lecture. I'm still attending lecture for now, but TUN does record lectures and only some of our classes are mandatory.

I think Henderson is great! Coming from a city, I was a bit afraid of going to somewhere rural but TUN/Henderson is not like that! I admit our school is located next to a bunch of car dealerships but you are also located next to a bunch of shops/plazas within 5-10 minutes. Time gets pretty valuable and you can easily run errands, eat, and grocery shop (I can't say all these errands are quick but they are all a short drive away). From TUN, you are also about a 15 min drive to the airport and about 20 min from the strip. I was really pleased by the location when I first visited for my interview.

Thank you!!

My admissions decision was only 8 days from my interview which actually was a few days earlier then what they told us. I not sure if that is normal but I think it depends on when the admissions committee will meet.

Our lectures are together but for OMM lab we are split in half.

Good luck!

Just to add on another admissions decision note to what my classmate already said, my decision was I believe 4 days after my interview, WAY earlier than what they told us it would be.

How long did it take people from the under review email to getting a decision?
