Hi friends, I'm a current M1 at Tufts, happy to answer any questions. I know this is an especially stressful day for a lot of you guys!
Thanks your willingness to help out some stressed out pre meds! Considering we haven't heard anything yet, do you think we are likely deferred? Do you know if many students at this stage that get deferred end up getting accepted?

Does anyone know if Tufts will send emails of deferral or just not notify us until a final decision (accept, reject, waitlist) has been made?

I know how unbelievably painful it is!! I think that Tufts usually calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I remember I got the call on a Thursday at 4pm so by that point I was thinking that I for sure was deferred, because people had started posting here about their acceptances the Tuesday before. In past years, not many people who were deferred ended up getting accepted, but I know that started changing last year. They used to have no waitlist movement either but I know that's changing too.

Does anyone know if Tufts will send emails of deferral or just not notify us until a final decision (accept, reject, waitlist) has been made?
Based on how it worked last year, they will email you this week if you were deferred or rejected post-interview.

You’re the best.

Do you know what day that deferral email usually comes? You’d think it’s easy for them to send and that they would have already sent the emails Monday or today. Maybe wishful thinking though.

To my knowledge it usually came on Friday, which I know is not ideal!

Any idea if MPH or MBA decision is announced, if separately from MD?

Email received for deferred decision this morning. That was torture. Thank god the rest of these decisions going forward are just random and there aren't specific dates involved.

Assuming that everyone that didn't hear back yesterday has been deferred, sounds like there is a lot of us. I guess its better to be deferred earlier in the cycle considering that they haven't interviewed a ton of applicants yet? Still, I think I have read "please don't be discouraged" in that email 10 times and its not helping ha.

Interviewing 10/30. Really excited to see Boston and Tufts! Congrats to those who got accepted already. How long after an interview does Tufts take to release its decision since we are now past the Oct 15th opening window wave of decisions?

Interviewed on the 4th and was told we should know late Oct to early Nov....so 3-4 weeks or maybe 2-3 for interviews now.

It takes about a month! They will most likely give you an exact date when you interview.

Did anybody else who interviewed in Sept. also get deferred by Tufts? Trying to understand if many got accepted and trying to interpret what to do at this point since they said its not the same as the waitlist.

I did not interview here, but I was curious about your question so I did some research....Here's what I found:

In general, a hold (or a "deferral") means that a school is unable to make a decision about you at the time. This means that if better applicants come along, you will be waitlisted or rejected and that if no better applicants come along, you will probably be accepted.

At many schools, hold essentially equals a waitlist spot, with the exception that waitlist spots are at least partially ranked. If you receive a waitlist notification, the schools already has an idea of whether you are likely to ultimately be accepted or not (although they may not tell you this). If you are on hold, everything is still up in the air.

Anyone know how competitive is to get admitted to the Maine Track?

In no way an expert, but I think it’s definitely a “mission fit” with an emphasis on rural health and disadvantaged populations. Regional ties help. And there are a max of 40 spots. Not sure on stat competitiveness as the website doesn’t make a distinction

TUFTS
I LIVE LIKE A BLOCK AWAY
DO ME A SOLID

Trust me, I know the feeling. I grew up and still live 3 miles away from one of the Cali schools and for some reason, not getting an II from there and seeing people from the East Coast get IIs and go in and out of there really stings the hell out of me 😡

Maine track people: did you write thank yous to your interviewers and mail them to the address listed on the interview sheet? Or just email?

I handwrite letters and mailed them to the addresses - If you had a really good conversation with someone, a letter looks much better!

Still silence for Maine Track interviewers?

Are we supposed to hear by the end of the month? I don’t remember exactly what they said at the interview

At mine, they said the 3-4th week of October so I have no idea anymore.
