I have said some pretty ego centric things on this site. This is not one of them. I am either going to follow you and give you your 15 “ego checks” every day, or ignore. I am uncertain. But this is your only reply, school specifics are for the schools not for being petty.

Also isn’t it like 2 AM in CT? Go to sleep. Don’t you have a business to run or lawyering to do or interviews to get a 5 day turnaround time on or something?

Just want to make a point that we are all competing for love from those schools. That’s the ego check.
 
Thank you, everyone! I emailed admissions yesterday to double-check it wasn't a mistake (there was no communication receipt in the portal). They replied that I actually did receive an interview! Their email server went down, so always check your portals is the moral of the story. I was complete in early August.
 
What is affordable housing around the Stanford Med area (key word: affordable)? And is anyone interviewing on Nov 16th?

And if you are married, they have on campus married/family housing. Like $2600 for a 2bedroom. Not sure if this is affected by new buildings? Anyone know?
 
Do you guys know if something like accepting Rhodes or Gates Cambridge interviews wil harm your application? Rhodes finalist invites are sent out in our district tomorrow, and Im debating whether or not to send that in as an update if i get it since if I do Im basically telling them Im considering a deferral. Not sure if med schools consider deferrals as like a waste of their time or if theyre actually amenable to them 🙁

schools are amenable to deferrals for things like Gates/Rhodes and a few ppl do it each year. It will most definitely not harm your application lmao.

Question for you: with how keen Stanford is on innovators/leaders/entrepreneurship etc. I wanted to send a pre-II update that covers since application 1) started a clinical microbiology lab basically from scratch 2) Just received a largish grant and am team lead on a biotech project that is my brainchild 3) Abstract accepted for presentation at national conference in its field.

Would any of these be worth while in an update or do they really only care about pubs? If it matters, I am also a KH applicant...

I have called directly and asked this exact question. Stanford absolutely states they won’t accept any updates pre interview. At all. Apparently even for prestigious fellowships. They will only consider you for an interview based on your submitted application. They WILL accept any and all updates after interview though!

Yes they are, but they won’t accept an update of you telling them unless u already interviewed there. Wait and see if you get it and by then you can have interviewed at Stanford and let them know. Good luck!!! So awesome!

That’s possible. I only remembered the 2 weeks part. Still, what’s the point in sending an update if it doesn’t get included in the review?
 
I actually asked “what if an applicant cures cancer since the time that they submitted the secondary??” And the woman’s response was
we are really good at telling who is likely to be the one to cure cancer based on the application and will surely offer that applicant an interview. We are really good at this. This is what we do!

Well, thank you for doing the leg work and calling the office lol I appreciate the answer! These were just minor updates anyways I suppose....hoping they still like me regardless!

Gotcha that makes sense, they don’t want anything new until they like you, but they also don’t want you to waste their time.

If you send something they will respond that they won’t accept it, as per their clearly spelled out process and policies on the admissions website. So they make you feel like you have now identified yourself as someone who doesn’t respect their process and is looking to game over other applicants who follow the rules. Which is a big negative. At least that is how it made my Roomate feel who tried this lol!!
