2019-2020 Stanford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Likewise...Stanford was next on my list before the burnout hit. Not especially confident I wouldn't just be losing $95 if I applied now

Not gonna lie, their multi level secondary was intimidating. Had to check everything only about 450 times before submitting.

Anyone hear back from the student hosts yet? Also, how many people do they interview each day?

I'm curious whether anyone has heard from a host as well, specifically for 09/25. I haven't, and am considering following-up (but obviously don't want to help flood 'em with neuroticism).

If you received an interview, does anyone know where the Accessibility and Dietary Accommodations Form is? Is that just the Hosting Form? Thank you! Good luck to everyone!

It’s on the interview confirmation thing you have to fill out after you select a date.

Still haven't heard back btw.

Hey y’all just wanted to clarify that I’m not directly or officially involved with Stanford admissions in any way, I’m just a current student doing my best to answer your questions. I can only provide my own perspective on things as best I can and for any official information you should always trust what you hear from admissions.

As an update, I’d just like to say *dont call admissions on thursday if you haven’t heard about hosting*. Definitely fill out the hosting survey if you’re interviewing, people are working as fast as possible and are aware of the situation and do your best to make travel plans.

That’s an insanely fast turnaround for an interview invite from a medical school like Stanford, many congratulations!
Thank you! I’m extremely surprised myself by how fast these schools get back to me. I thought at the beginning that I would not hear back until at least October considered how recent my app was. Very elated at the opportunities. Good luck to you and everyone who’s still waiting.

Has anyone received an II for Berg scholars?

DISCLOSURES
Please list any Stanford Medicine faculty who have served as a member or supervisor outside of their formal teaching role (e.g. resident advisor, research PI).

For this question, I should be listing faculty who have provided me with mentorship right (i.e. talked to 1-on-1 outside of shadowing for advice on app and professional development)? Sorry idk why I'm having such a difficult time interpreting this question.

No. It is not someone you happen to know. It is someone you have a relationship as a PI or some other advisor role (thesis/phd advisor or whatever). The question is trying to eliminate any influence they can have on your application if they are medical school faculty.

Ok got it, so it'd only qualify if it was something more formal.
Thanks!

Stanford conflict of interest and disclosures is one of the worst i have ever seen. This section is essentially asking which part of your application should be completely discounted because people named in this section make that part of your application irrelevant anywhere else they are listed.

If that is the case I should’ve listed myself because I am a completely untrustworthy and unreliable source.

Wait, are you serious? One of my MME and vast majority of my research experience is under a PI here. wtf did I screw myself over by listing?

The section is called - Conflict of Interest and Disclosures. In business parlance, conflict of interest automatically implies you got favors. Disclosures on the other hand are ensuring that they try to keep your application away from those people at med school who were already involved with you.

Yeah, I meant for it to be under disclosures for the sake of fairness. Though I didn't think they would discount all sections on my app associated with people at the SoM. 🙁

Disclosures is to prevent any influence. The way they phrased the questions about conflict of interest make it really hard for some sections. Think of how people find shadowing opportunities, volunteering opportunities or even research opportunities without ever making any connections through friends and family. Does that make those activities no longer carry any weight?

you're fine, dont worry about it. My guess it wouldve been a worse look if you didnt disclose any and then they saw you spent several years working at Stanford.

Hey peeps any advice on withdrawing from KH application? I underestimated the amount of work I'd have in the last month and don't think I will be getting to the KH app.
Wondering if it's delaying my MD app review and/or if withdrawing would be frowned upon? thanks~

Oof, bummer. Yah, KH was a beast in both length and thoughtfulness of narrative.... I believe you can withdraw your KH application through the KH portal after you submit it. So submit it blank then withdraw? Maybe there is an area on the bottom of the tabs on the left-hand side?

Just email Stanford as well both your AAMC ID and your KH ID and that you are withdrawing from KH but remain interested in the medical school
