Complete 7/18 and I have 3 summers and 2.5 school years by the time I graduate!
I am looking at the MSTP student list here: MSTP Students
Anyone know why they decided to decrease the number of matriculants in recent years? Up till 2016 it was like ~15 per year but since then it has been 8-10 per year. Surely it's not a funding issue. Maybe they want to boast a lower acceptance rate than Harvard?
Congrats to all those with II! On the portal what are the earliest interview dates available? Trying to see if it’s worth it to send an ITA email this short notice...
Agree. I think I also remember seeing Stanford on the list of schools that don't like ITA emails.I dont think an ITA is a good idea in general
Some schools are very accepting of them and may even push you up in the review process to try and see if they can accommodate. Stanford isn't one of those schools, though.YEah I also dont understand the point of ITAs. The school already knows you’re interested bc you submitted an app. For schools that get 7000-10000 applications, imagine even a third of them were sending ITA emails![]()

Mid July.Congrats!! If I can ask, when were you complete?
Kinda hope I get a somewhat later II, then, if I'm lucky enough to get an II here. Not too keen on rescheduling any interviews I already bought plane tickets for...ITA emails definitely are not recommended. I have an II and they only give you two potential days to interview. Under unusual circumstances they will offer you a third date and thats it. I rescheduled other interviews for my spot. Just FYI
Glad I applied KH and they won’t even look at me until November if at all. Yay. #delayedapplicationreviewmakesschedulingeasierKinda hope I get a somewhat later II, then, if I'm lucky enough to get an II here.
I thought KH people are looked at first. No?Glad I applied KH and they won’t even look at me until November if at all. Yay. #delayedapplicationreviewmakesschedulingeasier
KH isn’t due until oct 9 and is not done with initial review until late November I believe I just figured Stanford would wait until KH decision and either interview invite in November if you are a KH no go or interview in February right before KH gathering if you are a go.I thought KH people are looked at first. No?
This does make sense though. Good luck to you friend!KH isn’t due until oct 9 and is not done with initial review until late November I believe I just figured Stanford would wait until KH decision and either interview invite in November if you are a KH no go or interview in February right before KH gathering if you are a go.
I could be wrong. Just my guess.
Either way, I am anticipating a wait for Stanford. This does make sense though. Good luck to you friend!
What’s the video about? It sounds fun / like a pain.Either way, I am anticipating a wait for Stanford.
Good luck to you as well! Are you wrapped up with KH? I have the video and then am done.
Although we cannot meet in-person with each applicant to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, we invite you to submit a video that gives us a chance to "meet" you. There is no attention — zero emphasis! — on the "production value" of your video. What’s the video about? It sounds fun / like a pain.
Sounds like a blast! The prompt isn’t bad, though!Although we cannot meet in-person with each applicant to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, we invite you to submit a video that gives us a chance to "meet" you. There is no attention — zero emphasis! — on the "production value" of your video.
Here’s how the video submission process works:
Prompt: Teach something to your cohort of fellow Knight-Hennessy Scholars.
- Record a test video: You will have 10 seconds to prepare and 10 seconds to complete a test recording to ensure your audio and video are working as expected. You may try as many test recordings as you like by using the “start over” link.
- Acknowledge completion of testing: Check the appropriate box and click “Ready” to proceed to the real recording.
- Record your video on the below prompt: You will have 10 seconds to prepare and up to two minutes to record your video on the below prompt, which will also be shown on the screen. You may use the “Stop Recording” button to end your video at any point — there is no expectation or obligation for you to speak for the maximum time.
- If you would like to start over: You may delete and re-record your video up to nine times after the initial recording. Starting over will repeat the test recording as well.
It is just super open. "Teach something to your fellow scholars in under 2 minutes." I am debating between a special way to fold laundry, how to clear a one room building with a 4 man team, the process of macrophage differentiation to osteoclasts, or the entire history of the First Age of Tolkien......So many options.Sounds like a blast! The prompt isn’t bad, though!
Omg you have to do the First Age!!!! Please!!!!! You’ll stand out!!!It is just super open. "Teach something to your fellow scholars in under 2 minutes." Yes, I am almost done with it. I expect to submit it in the next week or two. The video is a fun idea.Either way, I am anticipating a wait for Stanford.

This is basically asking for a “why us” essay:Did anyone write a 'why stanford' essay in their secondary, and if so in which question / section? Having a hard time seeing how to fit that in with the prompts - thanks!
Congrats! Happy labor day!II just now

I'm planning on taking the second, but I already have interviews at good schools scheduled both dates... I'm gonna call WUSTL tomorrow to see if I can reschedule.I picked the second (of two) available dates. You?
I think that only matters if it’s not digital...Also I realized the photo I uploaded was not 2 inch x 2 inch. Post-II R incoming...

Only for IIFor the main supplementary, there was no photo upload, right? *checks portal*
Does anyone know (maybe from past cycle experiences and discussion) know if my KH theory is correct? Like, does Stanford even look at KH applicants before October/November?
@Lucca any idea? I don’t seem to see as much discussion in the 18-19 forums
They process these apps mainly in chronological order huh? Any chance you think someone who submitted 7/11 still has a chance? I also applied KH if that makes a diff.
After looking more thoroughly it looks like KH applicants can either get rejected by KH in mid to late November and then enter the general applicant pool for II or not, OR get a KH rejection/finalist followed by either general applicant pool or II the same weekend as KH finalists meeting. They process these apps mainly in chronological order huh? Any chance you think someone who submitted 7/11 still has a chance? I also applied KH if that makes a diff.

probably based on what somebody said about last year's thread a few posts up.Are you guessing or did you get that information from somewhere?

I'm stuck, no interview dates left. Does this mean I'm done for? I emailed the office this morning but no response yet...
