2019-2020 UT Houston ( McGovern)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also received the application and McGovern does have scholarships available!

I remember reading somewhere that they don’t announce them until the spring. Is that true?

Any one know if they’re still sending out interview invites? I didn’t complete my secondaries until mid-September (got my citizenship over the summer and TMDSAS wouldn’t verify me) and its been complete radio silence.

Congrats to those who just got accepted! Did anyone who prematched today interview prior to the original 10/15 prematch day?

Congratulations to those who prematched!! Didn’t get prematched so I’m kinda bummed... Is McGovern more match heavy? Or is it prematch heavy?
Purely anecdotal, but from what I've read around on the internet from previous years and stuff people claim McGovern is like 50:50 prematch:match. I hear it's less than UTMB and more than UTHSCSA.

They're more than likely done sending interviews right? :/

Still two dates left! Ball park estimate they’ve prolly sent out around 100-150 prematches already. So half the class more than likely
i guess there's always a chance but barring someone canceling their II i can't see them not being filled

I was also wondering if a current student could talk about what your daily schedule looks like as an MS1.

I have a question for any MS1/anyone who might have better insight than me. I have recently been pre-matched here (yay!) and I am for sure going. However, after I submitted my application, I had a job change. I went from being a scribe for ProScribe to being a personal care attendant for a woman with Muscular Dystrophy (both clinical type jobs). Because this changed happened after I submitted, I was unable to update them. I believe I brought it up in interview but I am not 100% sure/if they wrote it in their notes. Now that I am accepted, should I update them about the job change or just leave it alone?

How does the update help you?

It doesn't at all, I am already accepted, but I don't know if they would want to know about the job change when they do the background check.
If you fill out a form for background check you will provide the information to the agency doing the check. Unless there are conditions attached to your admission which are primarily meeting the academic and conduct requirements for students, someone working in a job does not normally have any update requirements.

Any current students or recent interviewees happen to know what the latest average step 1 scores are for McGovern? I can't seem to find my notes from interview day!

Has a facebook group or anything been started for the incoming class?

Yes, but it doesn't look like they have started adding people yet...

Those that have interviewed, do you suggest going to the interview social? What is the proper dress attire for the event?

I think you should definitely go if you can, but don't sweat it if you can't. The social is for you to get to meet current students and ask them all questions about the school/program/city that you can think of. They will all be wearing burnt orange T-Shirts and casual pants of some kind (too cold for shorts). As long as what you're wearing isn't overly slobbish, or too fancy, you should be fine. Nothing from that night gets passed on to the admissions committee (unless you do something illegal) so feel free to be yourself and ask anything your heart desires.

I like going to be able to learn specifics about the school from the students perspective which allows me to answer “Why this school?” better during interviews. McGovern was one of the better run socials that I went to.

Other than that I agree with what Txmd4me said, I do find myself feeling pretty bored after like half an hour.
