For those of you that prematched and accepted it, was there a deposit to pay?

Has anyone gotten a prematch after 10/15?

I interviewed here at 10/18 and I really want to know if 1) they’re offering prematches already post-10/15 and 2) if they’re offering prematches for people who interviewed after 10/15.

I would guess look for some more offers mid-November. Interviews and invitations are still ongoing and they will have more discussions on the recent interviewees too before deciding on more admission offers.

I submitted my application on may. I had a below average mcat score. I retook my mcat on September and got my score back on oct 1. I updated my score to tmdsas.
My stats are 3.74 cGPA. 3.79 sGPA. Mcat is 513. It’s near the end of October. Is it too late for me to receive an interview invite from McGovern?

I’m a Houston resident if that makes any difference.

Until they have filled all of their interview days you have a chance. You can check last years thread to see how late they sent out interviews.

Any recent prematches yet, post-10/15?

they offered 11/22, 12/6 and 12/13. I am interviewing at PLFSOM on 11/21 and UTMB on 12/6, so I picked 12/13. I didn't think it was a good idea to try to go to two interview days back to back.

Has anyone been offered a scholarship with their prematch acceptance? UTSW is offering substantial scholarships with their prematch acceptance. Smart move on their part. Could be a game changer for many.

I haven’t heard anything but I hope I do. That could really lock me into going to McGovern.

Unfortunately the majority of McGovern’s scholarships aren’t awarded until the spring. They send out a scholarship application to accepted students. It’s not an intense application, more like a form.

sounds about right—all scholarships in spring

Does anyone know anything about McGovern's laptop requirements? I want to buy a laptop for school over the holidays but I remember at the interview they said not to buy a laptop until matriculating because they have "special requirements".

Anyone know what that's all about. I plan on getting a Macbook Air and I'm pretty sure that would be up to standard, but I don't want to be caught off guard.

They require Dell Latitude.

Thanks a lot!

require as in, if you have a Macbook you also need a dell latitude? sorry if this is a dumb question. lol

From their FAQ Page:

Q. Why can I not use my Mac laptop?
A. Due to compatibility issues between new Mac operating systems and examination software, McGovern Medical School students are required to use MSIT-approved Windows computers to participate in classroom activities and to complete exams.

Yeah, the laptop requirement is kinda dumb. Mostly everyone I know has their own laptop/ipad already that they use primarily and then just have the MSIT approved laptop for exams. I know mine catches a lot of dust.

Sincerest apologies for the late reply - first semester has had me quite busy!

McGovern was my number one choice, I was also fortunate enough to pre-match here. I chose to attend for two key reasons:

1) The people are incredible. This includes the faculty, staff, residents, and my fellow students. For example, we completed our first round of exams last week. One of the senior emergency medicine residents hosted several review sessions for our anatomy practical in which he walked us through every structure we were responsible for knowing. Additionally, our head faculty member for anatomy was in the lab practically 24/7 the week leading up to our practical in order to provide assistance whenever we needed it. I strongly believe this level of commitment from the faculty is something unique to McGovern. During my interview journey, I didn't find another institution with faculty so special.

2) McGovern's location in the Texas Medical Center means you will get to see things there that you will never see anywhere else. The primary teaching institution (Memorial Hermann Hospital) has the busiest emergency room in the entire country (by many metrics), and you are given every opportunity to start shadowing/taking call/doing research as soon as you step foot in the door. With my interests in a highly competitive specialty, I knew that McGovern would put me in the best position possible to reach success.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions you may have; I'll be happy to help in whatever fashion I can.

Hey! I was offered a spot at McGovern, and officially accepted the acceptance! I'm super excited! Maybe I will see you around next year.

Does anyone (current student or other) know if there is any orientation in early summer? Trying to figure out summer plans but don't wanna plan over anything important

does anyone know about the timespan of acceptance offers for out of state applicants? I just got an interview today for January and was wondering that since it's so close to match day for TX residents, whether out of state decisions will move more quickly afterwards

Do you mind saying the interview date?

No they don’t notify of rejections until late spring. Or of course if you have not had an interview by match day you can consider yourself rejected.

Was my #1 coming in, have higher stats than averages and still haven't heard anything. Feels bad..

Y’all, they have been very sparing with the admissions so far this season so nobody get discouraged.

Do you have a guess as to when the next prematch batches are gonna go out?

My skill set doesn’t extend to predicting the future . 🙂
There will be more offers before Dec 31 but the timing of those varies from school to school and how their committee meetings work. Calling & asking them will not get you anywhere, so just keep an eye on your emails.
