2019-2020 Washington University in St. Louis

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The process has a lot of volatility regardless of stats and you shouldn’t expect anything from any program.

You can’t win them all.

Just take a deep breath and count your blessings.

Yes
I know. Just was hoping for some consideration from the Alma mater. It’s not like I’m a slob applicant either...

Don't worry, I'm in the same exact boat with my alma mater.

Seriously,
That’s garbage.
I just don’t get it. Can’t even use MSAR as a guide anymore. It’s a buyers market. Schools can just do whatever the blank they want and none of us has the ability to hold anyone accountable.
We just have to take it like a farm animal.

Same :/ But if it’s any consolation, my older brother got instantly rejected from his alma mater only to get accepted to his dream school later, and he couldn’t be happier now! So things can and will work out for all of us in the long run, I’m sure of it 🙂

Man, the only thing better than a pajama party is a pity party. I mean I'm still bummed about Keck, but hey its a random process. That's what happens when 7000 incredible people apply for ~150 spots.

You are all more than fine. I'm all for venting once in a while, but approaching anything in this world like it owes you something is the greatest insurance for disappointment and resentment.

You already got A from UCLA, just save a spot here for others 🙂.

wow. i love that last sentence, i'm going to save it haha. congrats on your A's btw you're gonna be great 🙂

I remember hearing from the adcoms on admissions day that we would potentially hear back from WUSTL today?

congrats, you are a superstar! I know this is somewhat lame to ask, but did they mention scholarship? like a date by which you'd know about any merit aid?
tbh I blacked out through the phone call! They mentioned an email coming later with next steps and stuff about second look weekend but I don't remember anything specific about merit aid !

Forgive me if this is a dumb question. Is it worth updating the school now about my co-first author paper published this summer? I feel like I didn't talk enough about my research capabilities during my interview. My open file interviewer asked a bunch of questions about my classes and my community service but we barely discussed my research. Just not sure how much this update will effect anything.

They love updates/communication in general so go for it. Plus any publication is a big deal, especially first author!

So do they also like it when we email any questions (well thought out ones, of course)? I don't want to seem desperate 😉 . Really enjoyed the program, but I felt like I didn't broadcast my strengths and personality well enough during the interviews.

At the end of the interview day the dean really stressed how they love to hear from us in any capacity so I’d say unless you’re bombarding them with emails nonstop it can’t hurt! They have like the lowest yield of accepted to matriculated students of the top schools so they really love when you show extra interest in attending.

Is SL really that dangerous? I just checked USA Today ranking. It's ranked the most dangerous city in the country.

Is it true that they are so into high MCATs? MSAR shows that median is 522 and 75% is around 524. Assuming they accept around 400 people, that's like 100 people over 523.

has one of the highest medians

Parts of it are. None of the parts near WUSTL are dangerous.
Overall the area by WUSTL (CWE) is safe... but there is still more crime than I was used to before moving here... we get weekly reports from campus about the crime that’s occurred, there are usually 2-4 events they report and it’s usually muggings and car jackings. I don’t think you should be scared of STL, it’s a lovely place to live, but you also have to be aware and careful picking a place to live, walking around the city late at night, etc. Definitely check out the stats around the neighborhoods and don’t be afraid to ask questions of students when interviewing.

Got an A on my pchem problem set and I go to washu undergrad. Does that count?
OMG I was just telling the Missus that I got an A on my Pchem exam that I got back today! I guessed on about 1/3 of it, but only missed one on the whole thing! I was stunned with my guessing ability... reminiscent of that pesky MCAT lol

Hey guys been seeing mixed answers for the interview type. I was wondering if it was 1 or two interviews and if they are closed/ open.
