My first MD II today from here!! IS, complete 7/26. I was so nervous about my VITA too + about having a lower GPA - UMass is literally my top choice and I'm in shock

Edit: for reference, available dates when I was scheduling were early-mid Nov

II today. IS. Complete whatever the first day of submission was, mid-July? VITA turned around within a couple days, but doesn't sound like VITA mattered.
Congrats! During the info session on Monday, admissions mentioned they send II solely on the info you provide in your apps and they chose VITA only to be a safety net in case something went wrong during MMI.

its on the portal. you can attend an optional Q&A session. they are at a different time and date than the actual interview
Do you think it’s super important whether you attend one of the Q&A sessions before your interview or after it? The only one left before my interview date was today and I couldn’t get out of work on time.. wondering if it’ll look bad if I only attend then post interview

I attended the one today, and I don't think it will necessarily help/hurt you! I don't think they took attendance or anything, it was just an opportunity for you to ask questions for faculty + current students! Most of what they covered could be found on the website (e.g. summer opportunities, research programs, the learning communities) and they didn't give interview-specific tips

Has UMass sent out many pre-II rejections so far? My application was complete 7/21 (and I completed VITA a few days after getting the invite) so I'm getting nervous... I'm IS, too...

Congrats to the IS IIs!

Just got a nerve wracking email from UMass that initially read like a rejection but says that I'm "under active consideration" and that a decision has not yet been made about my application.

I live in MA but don't qualify for IS tuition and I interviewed 9/22. Back to waiting!

I also received the active consideration email. Looking back at the threads from past years, it seems like people were accepted as soon as a week after being placed on active consideration, all the way up until acceptance or WL near the end of the cycle.

This is so helpful, thank you!! Definitely want to attend one after the interview!!

For people who already interviewed here: not sure if you can answer (so please don't feel pressured to), but was the MMI all scenario-based? Or is the MMI mixed with traditional interviewing, such as "tell me about yourself," etc.

I've heard it's usually 1-2 traditional and the rest MMI - was that similar to your experience?

Hello! To respond to my own question and this one:

The interview is in MMI format with 8 breakout rooms on Zoom. Most of the prompts were scenario-based, mixed with ethical considerations. A few prompts asked for personal life experiences.

Overall, it was easygoing! You talk for the most part while your interviewer listens. They have questions to prompt conversation if you run dry. Hope this helps! UMass admissions also hosts frequent Q&A sessions open to everyone so you can ask them about the interview specifically.

Did the interview take the full two hours? What's the timeline like? Thanks in advance!

My IS folks, has there been a big wave of IIs yet? Can't really tell from here

It took a little under 2 hours, like an hour 40? Half an hour ish in the beginning was spent checking in and just listening to the associate dean and director. When the actual MMI started, it was pretty strictly timed, so 8*8 mins.

MD/PhD II today! Stats in signature, was complete 8/17 and finished my VITA 8/27... finally some news after 2 months of silence 😍 Really excited! Does anyone know if the Q&A sessions and the MD/PhD-specific PSF are a formalwear deal, or more casual/business casual? I know the student Q&A is casual, but it doesn't say anything for the MD/PhD adcoms Q&A.

IS, received II on 9/1, interviewed 9/22, received active consideration email 10/22.. the psychological waiting game continues!

+1. Already been WL at a few of my interviews so I’m hoping for some good news from UMass soon!! Fingers crossed!

Just received the active consideration email. What were the outcomes of this email in previous cycles?

I also received an active consideration email, interviewed 10/15, LM 74, OOS. I really hope they make a decision soon; this school is amazing!

For those who have interviewed here already / have had other MMIs - how did you prepare?

I'm planning on reading Multiple Mini Interview Mmi: Winning Strategies from Admissions Faculty and Dr. Grays 'The Premed Playbook Guide to the Medical School Interview: Be Prepared, Perform Well, Get Accepted' as well as watching YouTube videos and doing mocks with friends/mentors. Any other suggestions 🙂 ? I also saw people saying 'Doing Right' was a good read for MMIs.

TIA
