2020-2021 Stanford

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
But why bother telling you about the curriciulum which is kinda like trying to pitch you if they're just gonna waitlist you?
Good question, it does seem kinda weird. One option might be that they assume people interviewing with them are likely to have offers from other schools, so they might be trying to make a case for staying on the WL vs going somewhere else? IDK, we are all in the dark here lol

I feel like the cost of being on a waitlist is 0 so no one is going to not stay on the waitlist anyway until whatever date AMCAS makes us withdraw from them.

This anxiety really makes you feel alive though dunit bahah

I think its a WL... why not just email saying congratulations if it was an A?
Fair point. I hadn't thought of that

If it’s the case that the meeting on Wednesday is indeed for the waitlist, I feel that phone calls might go out for the first acceptances tomorrow, since it makes more sense to accept a cohort of students prior to waitlisting others. But also, this is 100% speculation and the exact opposite happening is also equally likely.

In any case, I know this is a super stressful time, but I sincerely hope that everything works out for all of us and we all end up exactly where we’re supposed to be. Passing along only wholesome vibes!! 😊

I didn’t...

case western did Skype for both wl and a I think

Here is what I saw from Case Western, page 9 on 2020-2021 SDN.

"Yeah I got invited to a Zoom call this morning (and I attended), but the dean told us we were all waitlisted. Got the waitlist email soon after. Maybe a high-priority waitlist?? Who knows.

But DEFINITELY attend if you get that invitation; they took attendance and I'm assuming it helps to be present (shows interest, which sometimes matters if you get WL)"

-- not sure what this means, YMMW.

Which one is it? This is honestly giving me the most anxiety. Case informed it A's through a video call to everyone at once?

Sure I'll add my confusions to the fray, which is mostly a summary of what you guys posted. Mind you, I did not get that invite.

Reasons for an A:
- seems weird to update on a zoom call with anything but an A, but I guess Case has done it
- why would they talk about curriculum changes to a WL, unless people there are really high on the WL and they wanted to let them know that they're special and still being considered
- could be they were supposed to make phone calls but they're understaffed and so they want to do it in a batch, though I imagine making A phone calls is one of the best parts of being an adcom
- historically A's have come before WL's, but then again this year is super weird

Reasons for a WL/deferral:
- they said they'd make phone calls? But could be swamped, or could be they wanted to do both and let people know about some changes all at once
- no one past Dec interviews has gotten an invite, while in the past some people have gotten accepted on the first round after interviewing a few weeks earlier in Jan, though they may be staggering it

This is super weird and I hope this trend doesn't catch on where schools have people on Zoom to announce an update in status.

I'm voting that email = acceptance for the following reasons:
1. It would be twisted to gather everyone in zoom and tell them they're all waitlisted (even tho case did this apparently).
2. ~42% of SDN members got this email. Assuming that SDN members are more competitive than avg, this is similar to the expected 35% post-II acceptance rate.
3. We are expecting the first round of acceptances this week, and it seems like WLs are sent after As.

Even though things are still unclear, congrats to everyone who got the email! As a December interviewee, I look forward to February/March

This whole bizarre email thing has left me so stressed (I didn't get the email). Honestly almost wishing I hadn't checked SDN this week. If the email is an acceptance then congrats to everybody who got it. I hope that there is still some chance for us October/November interviewees who haven't received the email to get an A eventually. Heard there might be more WL movement this cycle in general?

Either way the zoom turns out, I don’t think WL will be kiss of death, especially this year because ppl attended more interviews this year because travel cost wasn’t an issue. I know I did.

alright I'm just going to say it bc I don't want to exacerbate the stress and neuroticism ppl are already feeling. I'm fairly sure CWRU only had an A zoom call. they told us to keep quiet on SDN so we don't ruin the surprise for others (sorry :/). Whoever said they were on a high priority WL call was probably just trying to throw people off. that being said, I'm like 90% sure this call tomorrow is an A call so congratulations. Those that did not get an email, try to stay positive, we aren't rejected until we get the R!

Wonder if this is it for January acceptances? People earlier in the thread were saying that they gave As over a couple of days last cycle, but possibly they just put everyone into this zoom meeting instead?
