2020-2021 UC Riverside

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The school sent out secondaries pretty late this cycle so im hoping they will still be interviewing for some time... but who knows

heck! They kept sending secondaries in freaking November and (I think) December. That is very late.

I was complete in September though. I’m just concerned I was axed.

12/5 secondary sent... 12/1 secondary received. Low stats. Do they screen? Or did I just give my money away?

They apparently do screen...like all UC schools. Somebody posted up a document that showed that they only accept about half of applications for secondaries.

If you interviewed in the Oct/Nov dates, I would definitely recommend sending an email saying that you're still interested and would love to have an update. December I am not too sure because it was fairly recent and may not have been enough time for the committee given the break.

Take this advice with a grain of salt, however. One thing to remember is that the committee probably has reviewed your entire application and most likely already has your decision waiting. I can't imagine why they would withhold an acceptance decision, whereas a waitlist/rejection seems more plausible. Nonetheless, if I were in this situation, I would want to know sooner rather than later so I could at least have more time to focus on other schools and/or get ready to reapply.

I think that person received some type of special R lol like not meeting the prerequisite or something cuz he/she was the only one that got it.
That doesn’t make sense because UCR doesn’t strike out applications for that:

All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited US institution prior to matriculation. Students must complete all premedical requirements before beginning the first year of medical study, although these requirements need not be completed at the time application for admission is filed.

They seem to imply that you can apply without having completed all the pre-reqs. You just have to complete them all by maturation if you are chosen for the upcoming class.

...so maybe that rejection was either over something else or just a bog-standard rejection.

I think there was also somebody else that was struck out pre-II as well - not just one person.

plus SDN posts are probably a small representation of the whole app pool. who knows how many other people got rejected already

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share the timeline of my application with UCR.

Primary processed: 6/22
MCAT Score available: 9/15
Secondary received: 9/30, submitted the same day
Interview invite: 10/13
Interview: 10/22
Acceptance call: 12/17

I am a Haider applicant, lived in SoCal all my life, and want to work with underserved populations. I love my alma mater, and am so excited to go here!

My stats aren't all that great, so I'm really grateful to have an acceptance.

Is everyone who has been accepted so far a Haider applicant it seems like?

That wouldn’t surprise me since they have set spots for these sorts of folks.

I just hope they are still doing IIs. I’m concerned that my time is almost out ;n;.

I am a Haider applicant, but I am not sure if it is solely us. I always thought that they do the Haiders relatively last because they have those spots guaranteed, but maybe not.

I would highly doubt that they are done, I imagine that they just started. My friend who is a current student interviewed in February many years ago as a Haider applicant.
