2020-2021 UT Houston ( McGovern)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One of my was super relaxed and then the next was so weird, the interviewer ran out of time beforehand and didn’t even look at my file so started asking super random questions and was having a hard time thinking of them on the go.... I’m hoping the fact that she wasn’t prepared doesn’t negatively affect me ☹️

Can't speak on behalf of them. You certainly have the credentials and already have an acceptance at a school and 6 interviews invites. Some of us are still patiently waiting for our first invite of the cycle.
Thank you. I definitely am thankful for the A and IIs. I wish all of us the best of luck.

Just got an interview invite! I took the 11/23 slot! I didn't immediately see any other days open.

LM 71.5 / MCAT 513 / cGPA: 3.95 / BCPM GPA: 3.90 / In-State Resident

Received secondary 8/13, submitted secondary 9/8!

Complete mid-July and haven't heard anything yet. OOS but McGovern is one of my top choices because its my hometown and all my family is there 🙁
Does anyone know if we can send in a letter of interest/intent before getting an interview?

Interviewed 10/2, prematched 10/15, only interview postcard no mask 🙁(( dang I would totally rep a McGovern mask

Congratulations to all of you who have recently received interview invites! Current MS2 here, looking forward to interacting with all of you on your interview dates. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Hi there 🙂 Do you happen to know if sending letters of interest/intent before getting interviews is helpful at all? I'm OOS by the way.

not helpful whatsoever

I think that saying it’s “not helpful whatsoever” is extreme. When it comes to interviewing for medical school, VERY few things are that black and white. It is entirely likely that your experience may not be the exact same as someone else’s. Everyone’s journey to medical school is unique in its own right.

Keep in mind: given the changes made to this years interview season (things are likely to take longer than in the past), we are still relatively early on in the season. Sending a letter of interest now might be jumping the gun a bit. If December or January rolls around and you haven’t heard anything, give it a shot! A letter of interest may not make or break your application, but if it won’t hurt your chances, why not try? Best of luck!

This is helpful and reassuring. Do you mind if I send you a DM? I have a couple more questions, but don't want to clog up the thread

this thread has more information regarding LOI in general which is what i based my initial comment on

edit: also this thread as well

Haven't heard anything since I submitted my secondary on 8/27 (the earliest I could submit due to MCAT rescheduling)

For people interviewing this Friday (Nov 20th), do we need to respond to that MMS Interview Day Confirmation email that was sent out or was that just a reminder for us to have about interview day?

I interviewed 11/4 and McGovern still isn’t listed on my ranking list on TMDSAS. Did anyone else have a delay?

McGovern was added to my rank list on the same day that I interviewed with them (back in October). With the TMDSAS deadlines for submitting primaries, MCAT & LORs happening these past two weeks, I bet they are just a bit behind. If you don’t see it after Thanksgiving, you could reach out and ask but there isn’t a big rush since ranking submissions aren’t due until Feb 2021. Hope it appears soon though!

Did anyone here attend the Pre-Interview Social event? I have mine tonight and I was wondering what it was like (what you wore, how long you stayed on zoom, etc).

Super casual- don't dress up. It's a great chance to simply talk to current students and be blown away by how nice and normal they all seem! I would definitely come with questions you want to know about student life/curriculum/clinicals because they give a ton of time to ask anything you want and just have a conversation with them. It was an hour for me, but they had people stay around after the hour for any lingering questions.

Has anyone gotten prematches yet? and if people are getting prematches will they be giving out less invites?

No, because those who prematch might matriculate but might choose a different school in the end. Med schools know this so will continue to interview their own planned number of applicants.

Does anyone know if they filled up all their interview spots yet, or like how far they've scheduled them? Still holding out for some potential love from McGovern /.\
I believe there are still spots for interviews in January. Most likely for 1/15, 1/22, 1/29 (last day). I interviewed on 11/20 and it seems like they filled most December and early January spots already.

After my interview they made us fill out a survey and the dates they had listed for interviews extended until the end of January (1/29 is the last date). I'm not sure which dates were sent out recently, but I'm pretty sure there are still slots left based on what I have heard.

Based off past years, anyone know around when the next round of prematch offers will be released?
