Has anyone who interviewed sent a letter of intent? I don’t know if that’s too extra or not
Dr. Yee, the associate dean of admissions, said that you can send a letter of intent, but that they don't put too much weight into them. He said people in the past have sent letters of intent and ended up at other schools, so they've stopped trusting them so much. He also noted that medical school admissions is quite a small world, so if you are going to send one, make sure you only send a letter of intent to ONE school!

Thank you!! I had only heard that they’re open to receiving them from people on the waitlist so I wasn’t sure about before decisions got sent out.

My portal isn't allowing updates since it's been more than one week after my interview. How are y'all uploading research updates, letters of intent, etc.?

Do you think it would be better to submit a letter of intent post interview? Would it look better to just send a letter of interest and an update? I read in another thread/post someone was kind of aggressively saying not to do anything post interview and it kind of freaked me out

Between those two options it seems like it depends on whether or not you actually have a significant update to send?

At this stage a letter of interest would be better than a committal letter of intent, especially if you haven't received a decision yet. Don't play your cards too early. (This was advice I got from my counseling office)

Who did you guys send thank you notes too? I know what email they said to direct them to but with MMI and everyone just giving their first name I don’t really know who to address. Maybe just the admissions staff in general?

Has anyone from MSTP not heard back at all yet? I figured the rest of us would've gotten the R by now?

Updates for everyone: They added one more week of interviews (next week), which will wrap up their season. They expect to send out decisions during the week of the 14th (probably the second half).

On another note, did anyone else think the MMI's were really stressful? None of my answers seemed to be good enough and they would question them and make me think I was doing something wrong/not answering the question asked. I feel pretty bad after interviewing sometime in the past couple of weeks.

Yeah, I felt that they were pretty stressful too! I interviewed in October. There were a few stations especially that I also felt I wasn’t answering the questions correctly or something and I got a bit flustered. Good to know it’s not just me. Duke is my top choice so I’m definitely nervous lol

Thanks for the info! And yes, had a very similar situation. I know a bunch of interviewees/accepted students from past application cycles and they all said their experiences were the same

This was by far my worst interview. Really turned me off to the school. Several interviewers said I didn’t understand the prompts at all and should restart.

so... if someone hasn't received an interview yet.... you're tellin me there's a chance!
Haha. Congrats to all who got an II and eventually get the A!

Unpopular opinion, but I actually really liked this school’s MMIs. I’ve interviewed at three other schools that use MMIs and this one was better than the others. I finished a few minutes early in my first station and the faculty member said it was completely fine and we had a nice convo during the remaining time. My interviewers at the remaining stations were just as friendly. A few did ask follow up questions, but that doesn’t mean I was wrong or that they disagree with what I was saying. They just want us to look at the scenarios from all different angles. I got grilled at my other MMIs after I’d give my original response, but ended up with As from all three schools. So I’m sure it’s not uncommon to have the interviewer question your response and still give you a good score at that station.

A lot of people in this thread and past threads reported stressful experiences 🙁 I didn't necessarily feel bad after the MMI, but there were a couple times when the raters were like "you could also look at it from X angle" and that made me worried that I missed points, so to speak. I'm guessing most people don't leave the MMI feeling like they aced it.

Had a very similar experience. Made me wonder if DukeMed faculty are like this
My exact philosophy... I know MMIs are supposed to be stress tests, but I didn’t feel any genuine kindness. If this is how the interview, where the staff is at their absolute niceness, is like, it makes me fearful of how faculty will be when I’m on the wards.

I also enjoyed my MMI here. Almost all of my interviewers tried to frame their follow up questions in a way that felt conversational and referenced back to portions of my initial answer so it felt more like we were genuinely having a discussion about the prompt rather than them grilling me

For those that have contacted the admissions office via email (for any reason), what has been the response time roughly?

It would be hard for any of us to really know what's going on with it.

ive been in contact with the dean of admissions and she told me they're now done reviewing applications and sending out II. for those that havent received anything, "details will be forthcoming"
Any indication on if this will cause a delay in decision releases? Based on past years, it seems they're only a couple weeks away at the moment.

This seems in line with their projected decision release of late next week/early the following week, I don't think there will be a delay

I was looking at past years threads and it seems like a lot of people have called the admissions office asking about decision dates and they’ve been responsive with specific dates/info. Anyone want to volunteer to call them at the beginning of next week? 😆

Oh my let me tell you, I just wish the waiting could continue forever...

so did anyone email? Im getting restless and it is still a week away (?)
