2021-2022 Indiana

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is anyone else kinda shocked so few people reported A's here this month? I really hope the class isn't full already.
Not really to be honest. It might just happen that a majority of people who got accepted recently don't use SDN or don't care about reporting them. I doubt it's because the class is full (all schools over accept anyway assuming people will withdraw their A)

I agree! Idk I pray the class is not full just yet!!
Completley agree here fam, this month was strange. Even if near full, they still send a lot more acceptances out since they know people may decline for another school, so there's that. I guess at this point we should be preparing for the worst just in case, but don't hold out hope.

Yea exactly, SDN is not the most accurate measure of acceptances (even tho more people post around this time of the cycle). And that's the over accept thing I was trynna explain. Don't give up!

Congratulations to everyone that received an acceptance this month. Would anyone be comfortable sharing what the portal update looks like?
it adds new tabs on the left side where the new tabs for interviewing and such went. Has sub-tabs for acceptance letter and then for campus assignment rankings, my roommate who just got the packet in the mail has also gotten the email and portal update yesterday.

Does anyone know what the IU specific protocol is for using AMCAS "plan to enroll" feature? Are we required to use plan to enroll or just make sure we click "commit to enroll" 21 days before classes start.

Hey everyone, I’m currently an MS1 at the Terre Haute campus (not in a concentration yet), so if anyone has any questions about student life or academics I’d be happy to answer them!
i have a few questions as an oos student since i was just accepted to the terre haute campus if that is okay!

1) what made you choose the terre haute campus? or was this through lottery system?

2) what do students like to do for fun in terre haute?

3) how do you feel about the faculty and level of support at terre haute?

4) how do you feel about the amount of opportunity at terre haute compared to the main campus?

5) do you plan to switch from terre haute if given the opportunity? why or why not?

6) do you know anything about match lists for students who finish at terre haute?

Do you guys think it’s too late to send in a letter of intent?
For another school, I sent an update letter with a STRONG indication of how much I wanted to go there (not quite a LOI). A few days later I got an interview invite for one of their last interview days and now I am accepted. This happened a couple weeks ago. N = 1 but it is worth a shot at this point.

Oh wow congrats!!

For IU specifically - very likely. Based on past application cycles, the last decision period for As is this month. After mid-March, people who are on the waitlist or rejected post-II are notified in April. I'm a reapplicant from the previous cycle and was rejected in late April.

If you haven't received an II from IU, the likelihood that you will receive one at this point in the cycle is low. IU sends IIs at least 4 weeks before the date you're assigned to interview (not sure if this also holds later in the cycle). Interview season lasts through March according to their website, so maybe it is possible to get an A decision in April/May. You honestly have nothing to lose by sending a letter of intent! I just wanted to make sure you were aware of some info before you decided to or not. Good luck!

Oh I see, I interviewed in November

I'm confused, does the admissions committee meet on the 15th of every month to make their decisions?

Yes. Unless the 15th falls on a holiday or weekend they will meet the 15th. Acceptances trickle in throughout the week, some people receive the hard copy in the mail first, others receive the email first, depending on where you are in the US. It's a very lucrative system lol.

Good luck this week gang, 1/05 interviewee hoping for some good news.

Hi! Sorry for the late response, I still use my old email address for this account and haven't checked it until now.
1. I was accepted off the waitlist, so I didn't choose this campus, but I like it here so no complaints from me!
2. On rare occasions when we have free time, a lot of people enjoy nature walks in some local parks, rock climbing at a local rock climbing cafe thing, going out to a bar (there's a common one that all 4 years of med students here will take over the top floor of almost every weekend), and sometimes we travel a bit to things like an hour drive away.
3. I love the faculty here, everyone is super nice and helpful, and most of them have some sort of weekly review session or office hours in case you're confused on anything. Many of them also move class times around based on what the class majority wants. I'm involved in some statewide organizations and have heard that other campus professors are not so nice or accommodating, so this has made me more than grateful to be here.
4. I haven't had any restraints as far as opportunities go, but I am a traditional student who's not in the rural program, so I'll be going to Indy after next year. I will say that for summer program applications, I think I've been at an advantage being at a regional campus with only ~25 students that I've gotten to know faculty better, so my letters of recommendations were pretty strong.
5. I kinda answered that already. I'm interested in a surgical specialty, so I look forward to seeing what the hospitals in Indy have to offer once I get there.
6. I don't know of specifics, but based on what happened with match this week, most of the 4th years I know of (the ones that stayed here all 4 years in the rural program) have matched into specialties such as family medicine, peds, and obgyn.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

If you don’t mind me asking, when in the cycle were you put on the waitlist and when were you accepted?

I don't mind at all! I interviewed Feb 10th, was waitlisted April 23rd, then got off the waitlist super late around mid July (I can't remember the specific date and it was just a phone call). I think what made me get in was that I had just sent out another email (after the letter of intent to the portal in like late May) to the admissions account talking about how I was out of state and needed time to move if accepted, because I got in a few days after that. Moral of the story is to not give up hope!

Mid July is sooo late. School literally starts in August. I wish they would respect our time!

Yea I was thinking the same exact thing when I read that. The stress must have been unreal @hopefulfuturemd1999, I can only imagine the waves of emotion that went through you when you saw that A! Proof to never lose hope, even to the very end 😤

thanks so much this really helps!

There are only ~250 people in the accepted students facebook group and in previous years that number is well over that, so I don't think so, but also maybe no one has facebook anymore? Not sure, but I was accepted a couple months ago and haven't heard anything about the class being full yet.

I believe there are also discord, telegram, and groupme gatherings of accepted students. That may or may not explain the lower Facebook number idk. I expect there to still be ~50 or more accepted this month and then 100 on the waitlist after that (based on previous cycles).

Hi, gang! I just got my acceptance in the mail moments ago. I was losing hope that this week was going to have any results. I am IS and am admitted to RMEP. I am in Indy presently as I wrap up my MS studies so I'm likely the first for the mail to hit. I wanted to let you all know that your A is coming. Take care!

When did you interview? If you don’t mind me asking

Edit:
In case it is helpful, I am a non-trad applicant that went through the IUSM Preprof MS program for GPA boost. I recommend it.

Is there any consensus on if IUSM is true pass/fail for the first 2 years? Or is it ranked pass fail? I've been trying to find a definitive answer but couldn't find anything.

Yes! According to the dean’s of various campuses it’s actually pass/fail in the non-clinical years. all the ranking comes from your clerkship evaluations and so on

Is that how they determine AOA? Also, does anyone know if IUSM gives need-based financial aid?

Do you mind sharing the date the letter was postmarked?

Just got my acceptance in the mail today in southern Indiana! No portal update or email yet. I was starting to lose hope as well! It didn’t show anything in Informed Delivery. The A’s are still coming!!
