2023-2024 SUNY Upstate (Norton)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How did people who interviewed send thank you letters? I wasn't able to catch the names of everyone I talked to during the MMI so I'm trying to find their names but sometimes just had initials so I'm not sure how I'll track them down. Any thoughts? Thanks!

is anyone else having trouble logging into their portal? I'm getting an "error, please notify administrator" message

For anyone who interviewed, how was it? I know it’s MMI but overall how was your experience?
It was so chill, and I actually found it fun. No-stress interview: a good mix between personal questions about you and ethical questions. I think they just wanted to make sure you're normal and have good people skills.

ok I also interviewed 10/11 and haven't gotten a decision yet... wonder if this means it's an r 🙁

I interviewed 10/16 and they mentioned something like last Friday but nothing came back. They also said the latest we would know would be today. Not sure if that still holds.

So it’s taking a little over 2 weeks post II for them to give a decision? -I interviewed 10/30 🥲 so I’m trying to give myself a time frame (they said they’d let us know in abt 4-6 weeks tho)
It seems like a wide range... I've seen on the thread 1 week post-II and then some like myself who interviewed 10/11 and still no word

So is this school still giving out interviews? IS but from metro NY, LM 71. Still haven’t heard anything from this school.

Any post-II decisions yet this week? Interviewed 10/11 and I’m getting antsy. The dean told us last week October/first week of November at the latest 🙁

Hi! I'm SO EXCITED to be interviewing here soon 🙂

Was wondering if anyone would be willing to answer a few questions, obviously nothing that you were told you can't say/ signed an NDA about/ feel ethically uncomfortable sharing.

1) Is there really a written prompt in the MMI? Is that just a rumor?
2) General feelings about the MMI? More traditional or situation based Qs? Actor- based scenarios?
3) What was the timing like? I've been practicing, generally, 2 min to think about/ read a prompt and giving myself approx four min to tie up my answer, but I know it varies and I believe they are sharing this info quite close to the date of the actual interview.

How long was the whole shebang? Ie, do I need to find coverage for a full workday, or would 4-5 hours off suffice? I'm definitely the sort of person who is going to go to work/ have a regular morning beforehand, having something to do will help me control nerves.

Hope to see you in Syracuse next year, everybody!

1. Yes, there’s a short written prompt they send out the day of your MMI. It was a “tell me about a time …” type deal.
2. Pretty chill in general overall. Mix of both traditional and situational so prepare for both. Know your “why medicine” and “why upstate”
3. I think it was 2 minutes to read the prompt, then 6 minutes for response and convo but I don’t remember exactly.

Interview itself was less than an hour, and the info session was an hour as well. I only took a half day off work, granted I was a morning interview.
