Looks like I can join the crowd from the previous page. Complete on 7/31 and haven't heard a thing. I emailed them two weeks ago and they said my app was currently under review. I think that means that they haven't looked at it yet. Anyone know if they do screenings based on numbers before they review apps? Seems like that's the story at some of these private schools. SLU seems pretty awesome though. I'd love to get an interview... just don't know if it's too much of a stretch at this point. Any thoughts?

I sent in my app mid July, never got a complete email, but I received an invite today.

Unexpected.

congrats, but dude how did you get accepted already. I interviewed 9/28 and were all sitting like ducks.

Congrats. 🙂
I'm getting nervous! Does anyone know if rejections/waitlists are sent by snail mail?

To the one who inquired several posts above, yes , there are unexpected scholarships at SLU. I know several people who got 5 or 10K.

Congrats to everyone accepted! I interviewed early oct so now I'm really nervous:scared:

I interviewed the same day. Haven't heard anything! Grrr...

Were the rejections sent via snail mail?

anyelse interviewed in september and not get a decision, im sorta worried

Anyone from the 10/6 interview date get any news yet? I'm from then and I'm checking my stupid inbox hourly because I want to know what's going down here....

I wonder if SLU is ok with applicants calling to check on the status of the committee's decision? I know some other schools say "if you haven't heard by X date, call us to check your status." Not sure if SLU people said anything like that on interview day.... 😕

My guess is that if we haven't heard anything, the committee hasn't made a decision and we will be re-reviewed the next time they meet.

Has anyone actually been told that they've been rejected from SLU? I don't remember seeing that from anyone.

I'm an OOS here and got my secondary completed 07/29, did not get any updates on the status of my application. Is the length of time different when processing the oos applications vs. is applic.?😕

I don't think there's a difference. I'm OOS and got an invite about 1-1.5 months after being complete, which I think is pretty typical.

oh well, that means that my application was covered by dust somewhere.....no interview hopes then 🙁

I just withdrew from SLU, kinda sad because I liked the place when I interviewed there last year. But hey, one spot just opened up!

This past monday after 2 months of hearing absolutely nothing, I got tired of sitting around and waiting and I remember reading something about "if you are in the area and would like to see if you are selected for an interview so that you can do it then" being ok so I called them to ask about my file
....apparently I was at the top of the stack to be emailed for an interview that morning. Don't know if thats true exactly, but I was wondering if anyone had to wait such a long time to hear anything?

Maybe I'll get it!😛

Hope you do 😀

Well, not me personally, but yes, there are many who have to wait for quite a while to get an invite. I've studied countless mdapps profiles(i'm a reapplicant, so gotta be thoroughly prepared), and most schools definitely separate candidates into tiers instead of inviting them on a first-come-first-serve basis. The thing is, it's still October, so while it's not SDN-early, it's pretty early in the application cycle. Right now, you just gotta wait until they're done with their top tiers of applicants first.

are you subtly calling me "lower tier" applicant mr. dingyibvs?!?!?:eyebrow:
jk..I don't really care what tier I am-I just need to get in, MAN!

I didn't think I was being subtle 😉

Anyhow, the way they pick the tiers is usually very numbers-based. The first waves of interviewees are usually the high numbers type, and with computers these days, it's very easy to sort them. However, as we all know, numbers don't mean everything when it comes to med school admissions, but it's much difficult for med schools to sort by EC's, so just because you're in a "lower" tier doesn't mean you have lower chances of getting in. It might just mean that it'll take you longer, so be patient you youngin!

Yea patience is a virtue that I have not inherited unfortunately, but hey it doesn't matter now that I have an interview scheduled for Nov 10th. :woot:

Well good luck! If you can, wear walking shoes for the tour, it's the longest I've taken for an interview. Last year my feet hurt soooooo friggin bad and I'm a guy.... Also, like it or not, med schools do tend to test girls in terms of their ability to handle stress and such a bit more. IIRC, you look pretty young, so it might be especially true for you. Therefore, try to act calm, composed, and mature whether the interviewer's extremely friendly or extremely stern.

Haha no worries there-my Duke interviewer told me a way to give a tough interviewer a dose of his own medicine!!!! I am all set!

I just canceled my interview at SLU, so I hope I opened up a spot for someone. Good luck guys!

it was a lot of fun and makes waiting until March that much worse! but thats a post for another thread....

He told me to ask the mean-ole-interviewer what their opinion was on how 80+hour work week affected doctors ability to treat patients effectively.

Oooo that's a pretty good idea, really turn the table on them eh?

I've been complete since 8/26 but haven't heard from them yet. Should I call them? Or is this normal?

I've been complete since end of August too. I sent them an "in area" email tuesday, and got an interview invite yesterday morning!

Nice! Congrats! But if you dont mind sharing, what exactly did you say in your email?

Accepted! Interviewed early October. Excited, but will likely be withdrawing due to acceptances elsewhere. Great school, St. Louis is just not for me.

So, it's sounding like they're dishing out November invites. I'll be in St. Louis the 19th of Nov, and I'm tempted to send them an "in the area" email. I feel really awkward doing that, though. Hm.

Is anyone really familiar with the Metrolink/SLU shuttle system? I'm most likely going to be staying with a friend in Clayton the night before the interview. What would be the best way to get to the medical school in the morning before the interview? Should I take the Metrolink to Grand and then take the Grand shuttle to the medical school? Or would it be better to get a cab?

Thank in advance!

Accepted yesterday morning! So excited! Fyi for those still waiting I interviewed on 9/28. Good luck everyone!

save yourself the hassle and get yourself a cab.

if you are pretty adamant about taking the metro, you could take it to grand (not one of the "safer" stops) but it should be fine around that time. from there, you can just walk it. a lot of kids from undergrad walk from the undergrad campus to the med school campus.

Metro cost was less than $4. A cab would be at least $40. As long as you fly in during the day, use the metro and walk. Not far to walk at all.

I took the shuttle from the medical school to Grand and the metrolink from Grand to the airport. It was really quick, cheap, and easy. (It actually ended up being free because I forgot to pay and nobody checked for tickets...whoops).
