Hi everyone,

I just called over to find out if there was any news on my status, and they said they expect to have decisions out in the next 3 weeks!

I interviewed 2/21 if that helps anyone.
Was that just for the 2/21 interviews? I was told 4-6 weeks at my interview and I just hit the 6 week mark today. Another 3 weeks of waiting is a disheartening prospect.

I interviewed 2/21 and just got placed on the Alternate List today.

Hmm do you think they send out notifications the day/day after they review applications? Or do they send the notifications out once they finish with a certain number?

Hey folks, heres the match list from this year's class copied from over in the Allopathic forum. ~75-80% of us got our top choice this year with a lot of us matching at really top-notch programs--virtually every "big name" in the country. Only 4/175 went unmatched this year, well below the national average.

SG in the house

I'd also like to add that the 4 who did not match in the regular match were able to find residency spots within the first 2 cycles of SOAP... which is the scramble outside of the match.

holyy wow solid match congrats to the Class of 2012! 😀 ....maybe I will reconsider withdrawing that acceptance

Did we reach a consensus on update letters? Is it more "Couldn't hurt' or 'Couldn't hurt but won't help?'

JDOC..thoughts?

I really don't know for sure. But my personal opinion is that it definitely couldn't hurt. Does it matter if it probably won't help? What do you have to lose? I know of a guy in my class who got in off the waitlist after he called the the admissions office a couple of times each week during the summer prior to matriculation. Did calling help? I don't know. But it certainly didn't hurt.

Does anyone know what a first/second year schedule at SLU would look like? I've seen the diagrams of the block scheduling but I was just wondering what day to day life would be like. How many hours in class/lab/etc...?

Posted this in general school specific too but didn't get any responses yet.

It varies daily, but typically it's lecture from 9-noon, and then in the afternoon, there could possibly be a lab but normally you're free to study on your own.

How hard is it to find research between year one and two?

Sent from my A500 using SDN Mobile

A quick question for current students: would you recommend taking genetics in undergrad? Or is intro biology sufficient for first year? I know it's not required, but I wanted to see if some of you wished you had taken it before med school. Thanks!

Not.

Take genetics if you have time. But not necessary. I would recommend more so Biochem, microbiology and anatomy (in that order).

I withdrew my acceptance today -- good luck to everyone, I hope one of you guys gets that spot!

Can you get accepted off the alternate list before May 15th?

I imagine its possible depending how much movement there is from the outright acceptances.

How does the alternate list at SLU work? ranked? (sorry if this was answered before. I'm too lazy to shift through 23 pages of responses)

I wonder how they pick who they will accept. 😕

If I'm not mistaken, for schools with an unranked wait list, they go through the entire wait list whenever they want to decide who to pull off.

Looking from last year's thread, they said the wait list is ranked.

Looking from last year's thread, they said the wait list is ranked.

It was definitely 100% hard ranked and unchangeable last year.

Did this "unranked" information come from the admissions office?

There is no official ranking.

Actually, Dr. Shoemaker (one of the interviewers) said the list is ranked at SLU. They give each applicant file a numerical score then list people accordingly. Not sure if it's "hard-ranked" though.

^^^ This.

Wait list email came this morning. Interviewed 2/7.
I was expecting it, but disappointing nonetheless.

Interviewed 2/21 and haven't heard yet...does anyone receive a post interview rejection email or would that come in the mail?

Practically nobody gets rejected post interview. You just haven't been reviewed yet probably.

What are the requirements to qualify for the $5,000-$10,000 scholarship that SLU gives out? Anyone know?

So is it based on your parent's income? Unless you are totally "independent?"

There's an up to $5,000 one based on your income and financial info, and an up to $10,000 one based on your parents income and financial info. (Unless i mixed the two up or the numbers have changed).

If you are poor, then you are eligible for the $5,000. (Assuming you're a student coming out of undergrad, then you will qualify.)

If your parents are poor, then you are eligible for the $10,000.

Once you get one of the scholarships, you are basically guaranteed to get it every year after, as long as you fill out your FAFSA and you don't suddenly win the lottery or something similar. Also, a majority of students receive one of those two scholarhips.

Aren't most college grads poor? 🙂

Does anyone know when SLU will start to send out financial aid packages/scholarship info?

Some applicants are older (age 30 or more) and have saved up money prior to starting medical school...so not sure that they would qualify for the scholarships.
